Im not going anywhere, but have come to some realizations. I turned 38 sunday, so I was at my folks house with my old lady, my little girl and my bro & sis n law and niece/nephew on saturday. Good times. My parents live out in the boonies and dont have cable, so I caught a bit of the Bama/Tenn. A bonfire/weiney roast was suggested. My brother then says he probably wouldnt see me out there cuz the Ohio St/Wisc game was on ABC. I got kind of upset....not at him, but at myself. He was right. I wanted to watch the game. Miss family time for a game I told my dad "wouldnt probably wind up in OT anyway"....before the game started. I went outside for a bit and did some thinking. Flipped a switch almost instantly.
I havent done great this year (95-103 YTD). Didnt take me long to figure things out. I have a 3 year old. I spend a lot of time with her. The reason I post in the evenings is because I work evening shift. She doesnt nap as much anymore. Saturdays have gone from me watching football from 11am -midnite or beyond to maybe squeezing in a bit of some early games and possibly a little primetime action. My eye test is gone.
Got baby #2 on the way, so my football watching will become even less as time progresses. Thats fine. I wouldnt trade my kid for anything in this world. Being a good dad is hard enough, but being on my phone checking scores all day is b.s. Its not fair to everyone around me. Ive done it for years. At the movies and out to eat....even in church. Addiction is a biotch. Luckily, I am stronger than that which has me addicted.
Doesnt mean I am not gonna gamble or talk football, I just dont have the time to ake it seriously anymore. Just cutting way back/down. Withdrew a decent chunk from my books on monday morning. I felt better all day sunday and monday....I didnt even check out betonline for its openers....
Dont worry about the "haters" running me off....

Well said man. Almost the exact situation with me. Realized I was spending way too much time with this stuff and not with the important people in my life. Best of luck this week as always.

I thought you may have less time for these things.... must have been a few months back you alluded to having a young family.
Completely get it. Similar situation here. 37 yrs old, three kids 6 & Under. Hour commute each way to our main client's facility is when I get most of this college football work done on carpool days. I am coaching my son and a handful of other 6 year olds in soccer this fall. Games are on Saturdays. Most weeks the game is in the morning, but there have been a few weeks where I'm not parked in front of the tv at noon because of afternoon soccer. It is different, but I love it and wouldn't change a thing. A little less eye test time lately for sure. Sorry to digress so much into my own experiences, but just wanted to say I understand what you're describing and commend you for trying to find balance in life with family and your own activities.
Take care. Appreciate the post. And good luck this week!

I love the single life, and have been my entire life, as I enjoy coming and going as I please, with whomever I please, and it allows me watch all the College Football I want as I have no other responsibilities to be concerned about!
As I said earlier it is all about choices, and in my case I chose a life that is all about me and having no responsibilities to anyone other than me and my employeess!
To each there own, as we all create our own paths that we want to take it life.
SNITCHES end up being bitches, or end up with stitches, and in ditches! #REALITY

Family is more important than any family you have here! You have got to have the biggest nuts of all time. Very cool declaration and BOL...hey, maybe your percentage will go up?
Proving is hard. Talk is easy.

Great post puts things in perspective. My daughter turns one tomorrow. I remember my wife being in labor a year ago today and I was chucking my phone for the hockey bets I put in. Gambling can consume you. I usually bust tail during week to be able to relax on Saturday and watch games but I realize those times will likely be dwindling. Good to hear other folks in similar points in life with similar choices. Good to see you back though Train, good luck with your plays this weekend!
