Managed to pull together a 3-2 record last week to bring the YTD total over 70%. 12/12 winning weeks. THANKS to Covers Nation for the banter, discussion and feedback. Has been a memorable season BUT always remember - past record means NOTHING....NCAA football handicapping can be a cruel mistress.....Anyone can go on an epic heater from here on out so keep the faith - keep grinding - and most of all play safe ! Hello again everyone.
Not sure how you peeps are handicapping this one with the Q mark at QB for NIU......Freshman Tommy Fielder looked decent last week after Graham got hurt but for real like for real - do you really want to risk your hard earned cash with a FR QB vs a vet like Johnson for BG who is having one of the best seasons in the NCAA this yr - 69%....4465 yards....41 TD and only 6 INT waaaaaaat???....Now of course the trick in all of this is - Will they COVER because the spread is obviously inflated.
NIU is now in their 6th straight MAC championship game. We have so much respect for teams that are consistent - won't drop the Alabama name here OOPS just did - NIU players and coaches deserve a ton of credit especially given the injuries at QB. Joel "Beef" Bouagnon has 1200Y rushing - and WR Golladay has 1100Y receiving they do have offensive balance but Number Cruncher guy is basically undergoing an exercise in futility trying to project offensive output because let's face it - it is one thing to go to the backup QB - and quite another to go to a 3rd string FR as a DD underdog in a champ game....Absolutely no offense to Tommy Fielder but he was probably playing with Star Wars action figures only a few months ago now has to start in the conf champ game....If NIU had a lights out D we could rely on maybe would be tempted to take the points but they are ranked 6th in the MAC...3rd in yards per play D.....BG is 6th in YPPlay D......They are #1 in opp QB rating and have the most INT in the MAC....but guess who is ranked 3rd in opp QB rating with the 2nd most INT in the MAC. That is a BINGO - Bowling Green.
Bowling Green is so explosive on offense - ranked #3 in the NCAA - but what gets overlooked is the run game which is very effective and they just came off a nice tuneup where they ran for 337....NIU gave up 230 to Ohio - Just do not see how NIU has an answer to anything that BG wants to do....NU thrives on INT but Johnson probably will not give them what they want......Yes BG had a crappy game vs Toledo 2 back - but as we pointed out - these guys are human and it really was a meaningless game - and it showed as they came out flat down 20-cack early.
This will be the 3rd straight BG-NIU matchup in the MAC champ game. 1-1 so far. We just do not think it is fair to expect NIU to hang in this one for 4Q BUT the spread is pretty inflated and no value IMO in taking the fav.
One of the biggest rookie mistakes you can make as a handicapper is expecting a team that NEEDS a game to come out and magically cover the spread. NIU was in that spot last week and #crappedthebed and while that could have been expected because the pressure was on - it also worries us now because that is NOT what you want to see before the champ game.
Summary. Cannot take the dog with the 3rd string QB first start and the way BG is playing. Hard to back BG at this inflated price. Lean NU TT under 28.5 or better.

Double .....All time great .......Agree 100% with your take on the MAC and that is always a relief to me b/c i do not trust anyone more than you on the MAC.....I am sure you have noticed that I never talk about "Top 6" and "best conference" etc..due to the fact that it always turns your thread into a #shitstorm of #chaos and we wish people would just go to fan forums and duke it out there heaven forbid we want to just handicap the games here BUT since you asked - My top 4 for the playoff right now are Clemson Alabama Sooners Iowa....my top 10 POWER RATED teams which is really all i care about are....Clemson Alabama Oklahoma (all within a point or two) Michigan St Ohio St Ole Miss Baylor TCU Florida St Stanford. (11-15 are all very close to top 10).

I am looking forward to your take on the Big 10 Championship. I think these teams share a lot of common characteristics. Both are very tough and resilient. Stout defense and blue collar type offenses lead me to lean under the total of 53. I cannot see either abandoning the run, unless it gets blown out early, which I feel is unlikely. Anyway, thanks for the write-ups and good luck to you and us Mega-minions.

hey mega i was leanning on BG 1h, i understand your pts. but lets face it , BG rolled over anyone they could to, and if NIU is weak they will smell blood in the water and would like to return the favor of last year MAC championship game where NIU blew them
