2016 Record: 19-6 (>75%)
5 wins in a row.
The pick:
OKLAHOMA -10 over TEXAS
The angle: Texas is coming unraveled at the exact same time they did last year.
We've seen this song and dance before folks. Last year Texas lost to Cal, lost to OK State and then when the season was on the brink they got BOMBED by TCU 50-7.
Even worse, Texas put everything they had into salvaging the season for a week and won the Red River rivalry 24-17. Oh those were happy times.
Well it is because of that win last year, and the potential unraveling of OK's season, that OK will, like TCU, do their damndest to bomb the Longhorns here. I don't care about home or road or if the game is on Mars. In fact, OK will even be more motivated to do them in in front of their fans.
How do we know Texas is coming unraveled and how can we spot 10 points here? Well for one, I give them zero chance to win outright and win 2 in a row against OK. If you are going to spot 10, be sure the other team can't win the game. I am sure of that to start.
Texas is actually in a worse position than last year. They implemented a new offense where they are running a mind-boggling 85+ plays a game, and they have a true freshman at QB. Folks, Buchele is not winning this game like this and Texas will not cover this spread.
Why? He has not support. The secondary got absolutely shredded by Ok State and Cal and OK will put an even bigger number on them. OK can shread them even worse.
Then you have one half of the Smash Brothers in Warren already declared out and worse, if you saw the last game, Foreman went down with a rib/abdominal injury UNTOUCHED. He just slid to the ground.
Imagine, with OK coming in to embarrass their arch-rivals as their season turns into a dumpster fire, if Foreman goes down as well in this game. Or if he is not 100%. This Buchele kid is not going to lead Texas to a win folks and asking him to cover a TD and a FG is too much.
How do we know Texas has truly lost it?
They missed, get this, THREE extra points last game. Three...in a row. Then on a FG attempt right after the third miss, they hooked it just left after a delay of game penalty (a kick that would have been inside the uprights if not for that penalty).
This is just like the visions of the missed extra point last year against Cal but it's 3 times worse. Their special teams is an abomination and they are manufacturing points off the board. Even worse, one of the extra points was returned for two points. That's -3 + -2 + -3 = -8 points that Texas took away from themselves.
And you are afraid of 10 points here?
In a revenge spot where OK is foaming at the mouth to destroy Charlie and Co. in front of those alums for last year;
Against a Texas team that has given up 1000+ yards and 99 points in their last two coming into the most crucial game of the season;
Against a redshirt freshman QB running a new perpetual play offense that feeds into OK's gameplan;
Against a team with one Smash Brother down and another that may not be 100% (and this is the Longhorn's core);
Against a Texas team that was emptying the playbook last week trying fake punts from their own 30 against OK State;
Against a team that has the Head Coach throwing his Defensive Coordinator under the bus at the worst possible time and now suddenly HE will fix their sieve of a defense;
Against an OK team that also has an atrocious D but, given this rivalry and given last year, will look to stop Texas with intensity on every single play and punish them....
You want to talk about a good running team? Look at OK last week: 260 yards and 5 Td's. Sensational. They'll use that effort again and Mayfield isn't getting sacked 6 times this year like last year.
OU will likely be getting people back this week, including Jonathan Alvarez, Matt Dimon, D.J. Ward and Parrish Cobb.
10 points? If Texas loses by 14 it will be respectable in this spot.
Pass the A-1 sauce. This Longhorn steak....is cooked.
