Any talk of '3 weeks to prepare for the option' and 'their coach used to play in a conf that ran it so he can teach the kids how to defend it' is, to me, very wishful thinking. Theyre a big12 team. Teams in that conf are passing teams and the ones that tun, like Oklahoma and Ok st, run out of the shotgun and RPOs. These kids will have never seen anything like this offense. And they wont be able to learn how to defend it in three weeks. You can't replicate cut blocks in practice.
I think people are overestimating how much practice these kids get in the weeks leading up to a bowl. Believe it or not some do actually attend class and have exams in December, plus all the usual partying etc that happens with the end of a season/semester and the holiday season.
Getting matched up with an option team must feel like being given a 10,000 word essay as homework over the holidays. Thats why I think the military schools have done well in bowls, it's just a pain in the hole to play them and hard to get up for.
Ken nimalotowhatever has established his system at Navy, he's not gonna lose to a newly promoted FCS coach at a school that isnt that good in a conference that isnt really that good, IMO. Malcolm Perry finally beat Army now he's got a good opportunity to go out with a bowl game win.
And really, do you want to put your hard earned on a guy named Skylar, or a guy named Malcolm who is in the friggin Navy?

Train, my brotha... I have only one large play tomorrow... I'll simply tail your card tomorrow except I'm on Texas large and that will not change... What are our plays for the 31st?

A few other points: Navy has done well in putting up points early and getting a first half lead and they are hard to come back on as they just sit on the ball then. K state is not particularly explosive or efficient on offense, down in the 80s in rankings for yards per play and punts per play. You really have to make the most of your possessions when you play these option teams as you dont get many.
Navy has a much better turnover ratio, been getting takeaways lately.
Of the 8 wins K St has, 1 was against an FCS school, 1 was against Bowling Green who is absolutely awful, and the other 6 conf wins?
5 of those were against teams that didnt make a bowl. The other 3 were Oklahoma, Miss St, and Iowa St. Who all made a bowl. And each one got blown out. Well Miss state only lost by 10 but it was actually not that close, Louisville outgained them hugely, fumbled at the goal line early which was a 14 pt swing and gave up a garbage time TD.
Now, Navy isnt notre dame or LSU but so far the big 12 looks bad, losing all their bowls so far, Ok st covered but lost SU. Have any big12 teams won a bowl yet this year? None that i recall...

Could not agree more with this post. Navy -3.

Nobody mentioned special teams Navy is horrible while KSU is near the top. They have a true freshman Youngblood who has 3 Tds this yr. He'd be number one but is 3 returns (I think) short of qualifying for rankings. Big 12 1st team

exactly what i was thinking reading up on some of the beat reports. go ahead and do walk throughs, or even scrimmage your own team all you want. playing a team that runs this day in and day out, and who has done it successfully at a high rate, is something completely different. i think we will get a good look at what will happen by the end of the first half. either k st will get it or they won't. if not, i highly doubt they'll be able to make the adjustments within half time to bounce back. the one thing that gets me nervous is that navy's competition has been weak. over L14 games, they are 4-9-1 ats against teams with a winning record and only three of those wins came against bowl teams. before they played army, they were 0-3-1 ats on a neutral and 1-4 ats L5 as a favorite.
good luck, fellas
No team is as good as it looks when winning nor are they as bad as they look when losing

I took K State +3 but dont feel great about it... Just want some action. Service academies have covered 10 of last 12 bowl games, which is a bit scary... This Navy team is coming off an emotional win against arch rival Army. That game could make this a letdown spot for Navy. K State also had an extra week of bowl prep bc of how Army/Navy play a week after the rest of CFB....
Navy hasnt looked great during the final stretch:
They played a weak Houston team and probably wouldve lost had they not won the TO margain 5-0 (14 point win despite Houston turning ball over 5x- the first INT lead to 28 yard TD, the 2nd TO lead to a 3 yard TD, two others happened w/ SMU in the redzone... Houston also had a 1st & goal from 8 yard line and didnt score a TD, and then missed FG)
They needed a 4th quarter comeback to beat SMU by a TD (SMU team blown out by FAU back ups).
Navy lost 52-20 vs Notre Dame
Beat Tulane 41-38

The reason I bring those games up is because it's worth noting how terrible the Navy defense has been. Their 10-2 record isint as impressive as it initially seems. They played 2-3 good teams all season, and were easily beaten vs Memphis and Notre Dame. Their most impressive win was versus Air Force, but when you look at that game closer Air Force had a 4 point lead with 3 mins left in the game.
With that said, KState hasnt looked great during the final stretch of their season either

Both teams kinda evens out on attack x defense but to me the edge in this game comes down on the best quarterback and that’s perry by more than -3 pts vs thompson

I'm on KSU with that Offensive Line that is all Seniors and I think they've all started since they were underclassmen. They handled us (Iowa State) similar to what Notre Dame did in the bowl game so I would anticipate something similar for KSU in their bowl game.

You’re clearly navy bias which it fine because I’m a Kstate guy. Klienman is a damn good coach and that’s why I think Kstate wins. I think he will have the guys prepared today. Skylar has his good days and bad days, but I would hardly call him out because his name is “Skylar”. We’ve got a triple threat in the backfield and have options. I like Kstate ML and the OVER on this one. EMAW

This is some good stuff people. I have nothing to add other than after reading this thread and many others, it seems like to me. And I repeat it seems to me. K State and the under is what the people believe in. So Navy and the over for me.

How come when it comes to playing service academies it's all about the other team adjusting and has a month to prepare for Navy. Doesn't that also mean Navy has a month to add wrinkles to their game plan?
