OSU has 3 defensive linemen that should get drafted in the top 4 rounds in Gibson, Heyward, and Worthington.  With a healthy Wilson, they have all the tools to put pressure on any QB.  This is USC though and USC has the best line in the country.  This is the only mismatch the OSU def line will have all years.  I hope they step up.  If they do, OSU has a chance.  If not, this will be a long game for Buckeye fans

I got nothin for ya WCT............at least nothing that hasn't already been said. Guys like godfather16 should just go to the espn mssg boards & argue his shit there. Fundamentally, USC has a better squad on both sides.........not an enormous differnce but it's real. Situationally, it doesn't get any better for osu.........for all the reasons already bantied about. The trends certainly go to USC. If the P10 was so bad compared to other confs., then how come noone has beaten USC outside the P10 since the "05 BCSCG? And it ain't because the Trojans are playing MAC teams......

Mr. Insight, so with tressel's game plan i really believe then that it comes down to the OSU safties. I really believe it comes down to usc quarterback being able to throw the ball.  His delivey looked slow, and he can't throw the ball deep.  Tressel knows this, and will play it to his advantage.  I am not saying OSU will when; i just think it be close because of the talent on both sides of the field.  Like i said by a couple points for OSU and watch a good game.

I actually am not  impressed with the OL of Ohio St, and i think if the Trojans can get consistent pressure on Pryor, they have a great chance to win and cover

Don't know what relevance these games from 4 years ago have, but OSU really should have beaten this Texas team in 2005, they let it slip away. Also, they destroyed Texas the next year in Austin. They almost beat Texas last year in the BCS, and Texas was certainly a top 5 team. Seems like they were just as fast as Texas. So saying OSU is always a slow team is plain dumb.

Don't remember OSU being behind Texas much last year. maybe by a TD. I remember having a big bet on OSU +8 or so and it was never really in doubt.

I bet the line at 5.5 which I feel good about, the line getting to 7 tells me that alot of early action is on the Trojans, I actually figured the early bettors would take the SLOWkeyes because of the line being a full 3 points higher than the early season line
 
as you know with betting, nothing is ever guaranteed, anything can happen in college sports with these youngsters playing
 
for Ohio State to have a chance to win this game many things must happen
 
USC comes out and plays terrible in all aspects
MB makes alot of mistakes in the environment
Ohio State gets a special teams touchdown
Ohio State gets a defensive touchdown
Ohio State gets every call in the game
 
I have always had the opinion that you can't handicap a game in hopes of something bad happening to a certain team to have a chance to cover, anyone who has watched college football over the past 4 to 5 years knows the team speed at USC and Ohio St are not on the same level
 
facts for the matchup
  • USC has the better coach (JT struggles with the big games)
  • USC has more speed
  • USC has the better offense
  • USC has the better defense
  • USC has some key players missing for this game due to injury
  • USC has a really young inexperienced QB going in the Shoe
 
  • Ohio State has revenge and a big point to prove to themselves
  • Ohio State has a great homefield advantage, the Shoe is loud
  • Ohio State has a mobile QB that can make plays when necessary

it is my opinion that someone who is going to bet Ohio State is doing so to fade the public, betting the line value based off the early season line being USC - 2 to - 3, hates USC, likes the feeling of climbing a moutain in below freezing temperatures just by chance they get to the top, is willing to race their Toyota Camry against an Aston Martin

 

the last two were of course jokes, but you get the point

 

USC is the public side in this game if you want to call it that, but who would you expect people to bet, I honestly don't see how anyone could feel good about backing Ohio State in this game, but that is just me, I tend to like betting on the team with a better coach and better talent so I will not try to talk you out of your bet

 

if this game is played 10 teams with this situation then I think USC wins 8 of 10 so there is a chance we have the wrong side, none of us win all of our bets and anything can happen, that being said, I still like USC regardless of what everyone else thinks or likes

I'd just like to commend the tOSU fans in this thread for being rational and taking their homer glasses off. It's nice to see $$ takes precedent over fandom. That is, except for Godfather16, who might be the dumbest fuck on the board.

The crowd at Ohio Stadium will be loud and out for blood. Barkely will not be able to audible. Combine this with the fact unless Barkley is an amazing study, he will be working with a limited playbook and it seems the Trojan offense is kneecapped coming into this game. In both cases it seems the defense holds the advantage and the result "should" be a very low scoring game. Statistically when the Trojans win, it is by 20 or more and when they lose it is by 10 or less, so a close game does not favor them. Pryor's mobile quarterback play also works against USC, who has historically struggled against running quarterbacks in the Pete Carroll era....aka VY but we all know Pryor who has 1 yr. experience under his belt vs. USC is no VY but does run a 4.4 and can be elusive in the pocket. On a last note, It is unlikely that USC will be able to replicate what they were able to do last season with the losses of their defensive end, defensive tackle and all their linebackers.

I chuckled for a good 3 minutes after reading this. You'll soon find out Barkley throws a tremendous long ball. Why didnt you see it? No reason to let OSU see him throw it. He throws 65-70 yards in the air, EASILY. Best deep ball QB they've had since Palmer, and at this same stage, it was better. Slow delivery? Come on. Thats being a little ridiculous.

You're right, i looked and we weren't behind till the 3rd quarter.  17-6.  When a team with the offensive weapons of last year's buckeyes scores less than 6 points in an entire half of football, I personally consider that an ass whooping.  If you count 12 quarters of football last year against elite competition (Texas, USC, and Penn St.) minus the 4th quarter vs. Texas..... do you know how many points we scored....? 15..... just over a point per quarter..... 5 field goals in 11 quarters, 5 field goals.  There were 6 NFL players on that offense not counting Pryor.  That my friend is coaching, and absolute pathetic FAILURE.  Failure to Plan and failure to execute, period.  As mentioned in another thread the level of recruit is falling as tOSU, no wonder, who wants to play for a team that doesn't score in big games.  I'm obviously tired of it.

I was at the USC/Cal game last year which they won 17-3....although Cal was in the game until very late in the 4th.  USC had a superior offense and defense than what USC has this year.  one thing i noticed (also in the 06 Rose Bowl that i attended as well) is that USC defenders overpursue because of their speed.  this is why they don't do well against mobile qbs, and i think TP averaged like 7 yds a carry last year and they will use him more on Saturday with empty backfields to utilize this advantage---seeing TP at the Fiesta Bowl last year, he reminds me of VY as he looks to go so slow while he's mowing you down (and if OSU ran him more in the FB, they would have won).  USC's new linebackers on the outside are about to get a rude awakening.  that is VERY hard to understand/prepare for in practice, even if they have McKnight act as TP.  

i think OSU probably has at least an equal defense than Cal and is at home....which people really underestimate the Shoe's HFA.  ask any Texas fan who went there in 2005.  TX averaged like 50 points a game that year and only put up 24 in the Shoe as i recall...in a game that OSU should have won.  also, remember the AZ game last year where USC really played a dud of a game offensively on the road.

USC's non-conference victories in the past (Arky, Auburn, Nebraska etc.) were of nowhere near the difficulty as playing in the Shoe. Sure, PSU beat OSU last year there, but they also are used to playing there.

USC also is known for hitting hard, but they really don't play well in coverage (the dbs)....Cal caught a lot of balls, but Mays jacked them up and hence the big plays didn't materialize.  not sure OSU can exploit that weakness as TP hasn't shown me he can throw on the fly tremendously well and who are OSU receivers?

USC also is without Ronald Johnson who is their best possession/playmaker receiver imo---even above Damien Williams, who only really blew up against PSU in the Rose Bowl last year.  that should allow OSU to cheat a safety up at times.

i think the game hinges on OSU being able to stop the run on 1st and 2nd down...if they can keep USC to 3rd and 6 type yardage, then Barkley will be forced to make plays which will determine the outcome of the game.  TOs will be huge, and McKnight has been a fumbling machine since he got to USC, so they must really stress ball security.

VY beat OSU at the Shoe with his arm, and i think TP will have to make some plays down the middle with that cannon for OSU to win as well.  a lot can be said of OSU poor offensive line this past week, but Pryor's legs can protect him there.  

i haven't made a decision on the game, but most likely will take OSU small and sit back and enjoy.

I've posted this several times, and nobody has any reasons (besides what I mentioned in a, b, and c) why USC doesnt demolish them. if its just a, b, and c, then USC kills them.

the only downside to USC is there isn't a stand out wide receiver...yet!  They definitly have speed and very skilled WRs but nobody stands out amongst the group...Heck maybe they are all equally good...

That is the only thing I can possibly think of.  Other than that they are fricken stacked, and Pete Carroll isn't going to put the game in the QBs hands.  They will run and score on defense and try to keep the pressure off Barkley.  I think they play a short pass game and utilize the TEs, use their speed on screens...keep Barkley confident.

OSU wants a little redemption that is for sure and what a better place to do it, at home.

It is going to be a hard fought game...

Regardless I still like the Trojans...Quarters, Half, ML, and to cover...They are on a mission and I don't think OSU is going to knock them off, particularly a Big 10 team.

However:

There will be Big 10 zebras in the shoe, right? If not, and, honestly, I haven't researched it yet, which conferences' zebras will call the game?

Don't you think that EVERY CALL WILL GO OSU'S WAY?
I sure do........but that might not be enough for Jimmy to beat Pete anyway
