I don’t think any sane person can argue that the SEC West is not easily the best division (top to bottom) in college football.
Going into November they have 5 out of 6 teams ranked in the top 20 and 3 out of 6 teams ranked in the top 10.
So my question is: has it ever happened before where a 6 team division in college football had at least 5 teams ranked in the top 20 and at least 3 teams in the top 10 going into November?

and people question why the SEC is regarded as the dominant conference in recent years and why the get so much attention. Proof positive all the hype and talk about the SEC is very deserving.

Is the SEC West really that good, or is the SEC East just that bad, making it seem like the SEC West is really good?
Auburn/Bama/Arkansas ok..
LSU will still end with 3 Reg Season losses.. and would have gotten smoked by UNC if the Heels actually had their starters on the field Miss State- c'mon.. I can name 40 schools better that this one.. Ole Miss- where's the heat that Rebels lost to D-2 school, yet VT still can't hide from it..
No team in the East should be ranked and it wouldn't surprise me to see only Auburn and Bama and maybe Arkansas to be the only teams in the top 20 by the end of the year..

and thats why you are just some nobody on covers with an opinion and not making the calls. apparently there are only 20 teams better than miss st according to what people who know what they are talking about are saying. Ole miss is not very good this year, but you are focusing on the bottom of the barrel, not the reason this topic was created. 5 top 20 teams from one 6 team division are in the top 20 isnt a fluke.

Miss State's best wins: 5-3 Florida, 4-5 Georgia, 5-3 Houston
Arkansas best wins: 4-5 Georgia, 5-3 A&M, 4-4 Louisiana Monroe?
Ole Miss's best wins (only wins): 4-5 Kentucky, 3-5 Tulane, 5-2 Fresno
The best OOC win for the SEC East by ANY school: Florida beating 4-3 South Florida... at home..
such a tough conference...

The Big12 south had 4 teams in the top ten a couple of years ago with OU, Texas, Texas Tech, and OkState. Guess what happened? They all beat each other up. The SEC west is pretty good, but this isn't the first time a division was solid like that. We did in in '08.

Ole Miss is pretty good for a bottom feeder. I would gladly take them at even money on a neutral field against any other team in the country that will finish last in their division or conference.

Ole Miss isn;'t the worst team in the conference though.. just the division.. and I would prob take Texas Tech or Texas on a neutral field over the Rebels..

Why in the world would you schedule a tough out of conference game if you play in the SEC?
All you have really done in this thread with regards to the origninal post is that LSU lost to Auburn so they arent good and Arkansas lost to Auburn and Alabama so they arent good. Although this is an amazing argument and shows the depth of your thinking how about you tell us what division in football is better.

All I'm saying is let's wait and see until the end of November to go on about the SEC West.. Miss State won't be ranked & LSU and Arkansas could both be in the 20s.. it's a real good divisions as far as divisions go but the records are inflated also by getting 2+ wins each from very down SEC East..

Everything is wait and see and I will be waiting to see how the SEC East teams do in their bowl games this year. Georgia,Florida, and South Carolina are all very good teams and if you dont think so fade them. I bet the SEC is favored in %75 of their bowl games at least.

but they will all drop b/c they all have to play each other...those 5 teams could be the 5 best teams in the country but they all couldn't be ranked high b/c they play 10 games against each other over the course of the year. Spread 10 losses over 5 teams by the end of the year and of course they won't all be ranked in the top 20. OP argument is also one based upon how incredible the circumstances must be for this to occur so late in the season. Of course it isn't inherently sustainable. But that fact doesn't speak anything about the weakness of LSU or Miss St. say.
Also your other point about them not having good wins. Playing very few good teams assures that you won't have many big wins. Again this, in and of itself, does not prove that those teams aren't top 20 teams.

all i mean is that, hypothetically if miss st. is actually one of the 20 best teams in the country right now they could lose to arkansas and alabama and still be one of the 20 best teams, although they wouldn't be ranked there. Like I said there's no way such rankings are sustainable over the course of the year when you all play each other.

Yeah. They've just dominated college football for the past decade.
Actually just since 2006. National champs starting in 2000 went oklahoma, miami, ohiost, usc-lsu split, usc, texas. Yeah a whole decade of dominance from the SEC. USC would have rolled lsu in the split natl title year also
