Clippers -3.5 ( 3 Units ) LA was spot on with his write up about the nba and second unit. The clippers second unit could be a starting 5 for about 10 teams in the NBA. I will be riding the clippers on their current win streak, especially at -3.5 vs an average jazz team that does play well at home. I just don't really see this a road trip for the clippers or them losing considering it is not that far away and they just came off an easy victory over the celtics last night. Also once again like LA had said about second units, when their second unit comes on they DO NOT stop scoring or playing the ball, they push the tempo and they love to score and put on a show, Crawford will probably win 6th man of the year and bledsoe is a great point gaurd in my opinion.

Not that far?  It's almost 700 miles from LA to SLC.  Chicago to NYC is only 790.  I'd say it's pretty far.  Just my opinion.

The other thing about the Clippers I like seeing is that this year, everyone is stepping up.  Everyone is playing their share of minutes. Blake and CP are playing 30 minute games. Remember last year when they were playing almost the entire games until injuries got to them and no one else can keep the team going?

The NBA can be the most profitable of all the sports short of MLB.  The reason why so many people get beaten in the NBA is because they don't understand the very essence of the league.  It is more a TEAM sport than any other and the first unit is almost less important than the SECOND unit.  The best example can be seen in Oklahoma City.  For a few years they had James Harden as the 6th man who would come off the bench and keep up the scoring pace until the starters would return.  This offseason they traded him to Houston which many would say was a "steal" for Houston.  The truth is that the "steal" was for OKC as they got Kevin Martin back and a slew of draft picks.  Is Kevin Martin as good as Harden?  No way.  But is he as useful as Harden or even other 6th men?  Absolutely!  Do we not all agree that J.R. Smith can start somewhere in the NBA?  Or Ginobili?  Or Metta World Peace?

The point here is simple.  The Clippers have one of the most underrated yet best second units in the NBA.  This is why they are clobbering teams and why teams like the Celtics I gave no chance to.  Combine that with handicappers that cannot figure them out and you have SERIOUS value on a team avg. 15 point victories and making people thousands of dollars.  If you think in terms of the WHOLE team, meaning the second unit as well as the first, you will see the NBA in a much clearer fashion.  That is how you can see the value in teams when they play others.  

Todays games are almost as tough as yesterdays.  POOLMAN you will remember i stated that in my first posting and even told you that you were spot on with the OVER b/c the number was low the two teams had active defenses.  The Duke game made the casino tons of cash as did UCLA but the Duke game was a total fluke and even the guy intercepting the ball in most cases would just realize to stay down and end the game.  Instead he ran for a meaningless TD and that blew the cover for you guys.  Baylor was just the more motivated and better team last night and I'm sorry you did not see that coming.  Had UCLA even showed up in the second half the OVER would have come in as well.  That being said, here is what i think of today.

UL Monroe has lost only 2 games in their past 9 and those two were when their QB Browning was sidelined.  He's back and playing at a high level and they also have a star receiver in Brent Leonard.  On the other side of the ball, OHIO has given up about 40 points in their past 2 games and UL Monroe avg's about 35 points.  Not to mention but UL Monroe does not run the ball much.  One would think that this would mean an instant drubbing.  But I think the opposite as a LOT of money has come in on UL Monroe in a virtual home game.  

OHIO on the other hand averaged 35 in its first 9 before being limited to about 15 in their past 3 games.  I think the rest will benefit them tremendously as the MAC has played a tough schedule.  Their RB is their best player and they are going to want to find holes and get him going from the start.

I think that if you play UL Monroe on the ML you will come out a winner.  I believe UL Monroe will win the game but in a very tough, hard fought, and close affair.  Covering the game will happen in the fourth quarter as they pull away from OHIO in my opinion.  Perhaps the safest play is the OVER as I do believe both teams will score and even expect a defensive TD.

I would also suggest taking VTech as I think they will come out with something to prove.  Rutgers is let down they are not in a BCS bowl but the scariest thing is how well they play in bowl games.

No one hijacked anything lol, the "dream team" is probably doing research for later plays, I just put my input following a great write up by LA, just in case anyone else agreed or wanted to follow considering there was no other plays posted for this first bowl game or any NBA games so far. Poolman we have talked a few times, I think what you all are doing is awesome and think this thread was a great idea as well in order to help each other out. With this said I also agree with everyone saying to limit writing and stuff so I will try not to post anything unless it is my play or an insight to contribute to your thread and picks. Keep up the good work and best of luck to all of us and lets get that money today after getting moosed (Duke was big play for me last night)...

in the NBA a few things stand out:

You have to ask yourself when a team as hot as the Rockets are getting 8 points to a rival on the road, why is the number so high?  I saw this discrepancy in the Rockets last game vs. Minnesota but i don't think the Wolves came to play, especially Kevin Love.  Popovich will have the Spurs ready to go and, based on my last comments regarding the 2nd unit, definitely have an advantage there.  I would lay the points and watch the Spurs hammer the Rockets.

Another interesting game is the Hawks in Cleveland.  Atlanta perennially thrashes the Cavaliers but last time they played the Cavs came out victorious in Atlanta.  I think the number is right where it should be in this game but I personally believe that the Hawks are due for a big time win.  While beating the Cavs would not constitute "big time", i think they will pull away and win by 10 or more points, which is the big time I am talking about.  I think the weather in Ohio works more against the Cavs as they will be a bit lethargic especially in the later stages of the game.

Lastly, I know Wade is out, but I just cannot see Detroit hanging with Miami especially the way the Heat are playing defense of late.  LeBron is plenty healthy and will be dominant as will Bosh.  I think that if the Heat can control Stuckey, which they should, they too will cover.  Perhaps a play on the UNDER is more sound here?

I will take a closer look and chime in more when i get to the casino and see movements.  Good luck

Bk i think you mistook what i meant by traveling distance but you make a valid point. Id rather them travel one state over, then travel to play the bulls or knicks where it is even further, either way i think it should be an easy win for the clippers unless they do not show up to play or if everyone does not play their role on the team which has been very important for them, if you watch the clippers play, they have been playing like a TEAM which most teams don't do, they are reminding me of the old school spurs that would give up the extra pass for the wide open shot and the teamwork consistency and role playing is amazing. Like i said that was my play for the NBA so far, no one has to agree or tail and like we all know nothing is for sure, I just strongly believe they win and cover the spread of 3.5 just in case it goes up.

One more thing, with these nicely split playing times, the COACH has all his weapons available to him on a consistent basis without burn outs and tired legs.  The COACH has to find the players that are most effective against each opponent. The COACH has to find other players to swap with those effective players to confuse their opponents and keep their opponents from playing their best.  So far, the COACH is doing a good job and I hope he keeps changing it up.
