I was shocked when I saw this line... you better get WVU and the points while you can because it won't be there come game time.
It wasn't a week ago WVU was a top ten team. Texas goes on the road and beats a bad Tech team by a TD with a 340 yard rusher and all of the sudden they are world beaters? My money is on WVU. They have experience at the QB position and they are the only team in the Big 12 that plays any D.
Until Texas shows me they can put consecutive games together of playing decent football, I will fade them. I will go out on a limb and say that Foreman will not run for 341 against this WVU D. That's why they call it gambling.
a) the line is going up. it's Texas -2.5 now b) it wasnt but 2 weeks ago Baylor was #8 in the nation. They too lost to Texas c) Texas just beat "#8" Baylor. And went to Lubbock and won. Not always easy to do.....even Oklahoma found it tough to win there.
either Vegas is giving WV bettors a complete gift or they are telling you which side to take with a 5-4 team laying points to a ranked 7-1 team.
but that's why they play the game. A bet on WV +3 or more does seem attractive though.

Which is why Strong took over the defense, and since then they have played much better. 6 pts to ISU (3 pts setup by an early turnover). 24 to KState. 30 to TTech in Lubbock (7 of those points came off a luckbox 99.999 yard fumble return as Texas was about to score). Is it good? No. But it is better...improving. That's what you ask of a very young team.
WV is a solid team. Good defense, but they too can be had. 37 to OKSt, 32 to BYU. Even gawd awful KU put up 21.
Texas still makes some mistakes. And that 18-wheeler package went from completely awesome to friggin awful in a matter of weeks. Hopefully Gilbert is learning to stop using it......
And since everyone knows no Big12 team is making the final 4, I think the other coaches are willing to lose a game and colluding to ensure Texas wins and Charlie is given a long term contract
That is a myth: the defense is not markedly better. Same mistakes.
Strong took over before the OK game. The total yardage figures are abhorrent:
672 to OK and 45 pts
1 win Iowa state? You better dominate them AT HOME and they actually trailed 6-3 at the Half.
KState - a team know more for its solid D: 405 yards/outgained Texas! Texas never lead I believe. That was also an alleged must win.
Baylor 624 yards - a team re-disgraced by the Wall Street journal before kick and they still went nuts on O.
Texas Tech is a joke. 400+ Still given up.
This defense still has the same players, same holes. It's not giving up 50 to OK State Cal or ND but WV is better than all those, and you could posit significantly better!
Texas is in trouble. And the line rises in favor of Texas?
The ONLY thing I'm afraid of is the intimidation factor playing in Texas with those Longhorn crazies. That can rattle you. But if they bear down and shut them up early with a 7-0/14-3 lead they should be fine. Texas will not go down easy but WVU is now getting almost a FG? Crazy.

Scalabrine, absolutely look forward to your write ups every week and really appreciate your passion. and intelligence RE: Utah State, my two cents, be careful. Wyoming absolutely physically beat the living daylights out of them Saturday. Every play somebody got drilled--they are the walking wounded. New Mexico is a very good run team and has a tremendous incentive. Thanks for you input every week
I may be on Utah State this week.
New Mexico was the beneficiary of a second half downpour which favors the run game and Nevada is basically the worst in the nation defending the run. And who is #1 on Run O? New Mexico! Utah State impressed me even in a loss. Could have folded down 35-7 and came within a TD. I have to look at it some more but your point is well taken. Wyoming was quite physical.

Did Big Vern piss in your Corn Flakes or something
Me and Vern have gotten along lately but If I have to put him in check there will be no hesitation.
Example: In one day Vern is going to ask the Mods to erase all his ridiculous posts and threads where he shouted from the rooftops telling Hillary bettors to be worried. Plus he has a Trump ticket that he will soon use to warm his hands like Tiny Tim Cratchit warming his hands over kindling fire while Ebenezer Scrooge (Vegas) looks on in utter delight. Vern, go warm your rump while your at it and post a selfie on your Facebook page doing so as an apology while the Trump ticket smolders. I'll accept under only those terms.

WV hc Holgorsen released his depth chart today. Rb Rushell Shell is listed as the starter. He injured his ankle in the Okla St game and sat out last week against Kansas. I must add the backup rb's Crawford (Juco POY last year) and McCoy are very capable. They have more speed than Shell and are better receivers out of the backfield. So, even if Shell is not 100% the rb situation should not be an issue.
The only other change is Maurice Fleming starting at cb on defense. This is not an injury related change. Fleming is a 5th year senior transfer from Iowa. He is having a good year.
No notable injury problems for WV that I know of.
If you can't close you can't cover.

Longhorn crazies??? Stadium 1/4 empty against Baylor.
Tx should be 8-1 but for the litany of stupid mistakes. Granted those mistakes can occur anywhere but they seem to occur more on the road.
Last yrs game A much worse Tx team was basically even w West Va except for the.... stupid mistakes. This yrs team is much better because of the QB situation and the D is more experienced. Still it boggles the mind how these big 12 ds continue to play these soft defensive schemes against them and allow Buechele to throw those short outs over and over. I would stack the box against foreman and take away the short outs. If buechele beats u long then so be it.
Also, porter is a downgrade from Warren but Warren wasn't doing much b4 injury. It was mostly foreman, who is a beast.
While not related directly, I will guarantee that Strong is back if they win out and don't get annihilated in bowl (they will be favored in remaining games).
The only thing on West Va is that I'd be careful b4 putting my rent money w sky lo lo (see Ok st and games last yr).

WVU laid an egg when they played Oklahoma St. 2 turnovers gave State the ball inside the 10 yd line which led to 2 touchdowns and WVU missed a FG all in the 1st half. Heading to Texas for a early game Saturday makes me pass on this game. Is WVU a top 10 team in my opinion...no...but Texas is not anywhere close to being a good team. If Dana doesn't have WVU ready to play like they showed up at Oklahoma St. then Texas will win.

Attendance was 97,000 in a stadium that seats a little over 100+
Now I'm not even going to address the "Texas should be 8-1 comment" (which is more than ridiculous) since I couldn't get past your first sentence without a correction.
To the rest of the guys above

Wonder how the TCU result affected this line....WVU completely owned and embarrassed them 2-3 weeks ago. WVU has looked good and I think the line will attract alot of public $ on those thinking WVU +X is too amazing to pass up (same people who took Denver +1 @ oakland this SNF). That said, TX is the play, has some mo, and should get up at home for this to salvage whatever is left of their season and their coach.

I agree with what you are saying in terms of "attractive" plays that people see on the surface but IMO that Raiders/Broncos game is not a good comparison because the Raiders looked 3x better on offense this season while the Broncos have looked 2-3 x better on defense this season (as we all know the D has been playing much better). IMO, Broncos never looked as good as the Raiders this season on an overall basis and thankfully we saw that Sunday Night
This WVU/Texas matchup lacks that narrative because WVU is better on BOTH sides of the ball and getting MUCH LESS respect for it than Broncos were (albeit the Broncos are a public darling)and deservedly so since they had won what.. 13 straight road road games in conference prior to their losses this season.
I was on Texas last week because I saw a huge uptick from them on an overall basis and despite some teams troubles winning there, they just play absolutely no defense. One of the worst TT defenses I have seen in many years and for those of you who follow CFB as I do, that is saying a whole hell of a lot!
I do see some things that provide some intrigue toward taking Texas here but this is just a game WVU should win. You can't trust TEX D to contain WVU nor should you. I appreciate anyone who likes Texas here but WVU for me BOL

Paid attendance. Interesting. Then you could do that for any game in the world since paid is always less than actual. It doesn't devalue the 80,000+ that do show up (according to you) and provide the raucous atmosphere.
And if Texas fans are fair-weather, then there are no true fans.
There a reason that's the 9th largest stadium in the world.

Actually WV is my second fav t3am and I believe it will be longhorns by double digits...WV has benefited from playing a soft schedule and Texas continues to right the ship here.

Yes, y'all beat us - but it wasn't b/c of our awful D it was our awful ST that provided huge momentum swings in your favor - our D didn't necessarily do it's part, but our ST gifted y'all at least 7 points...
Charlie has got the D playing better and with a 100% crowd capacity for our 5th 11:00 AM kick (we are use to these), I see Texas getting a hard fought win... my 2 cents. Scalabrine is one of the best cappers on here and I respect his opinion greatly, but I feel his lean is more out of anger/distrust than with his usual solid capping skills.
PS Yes, I am a rookie on here, and no I am not trying to draw the ire of Scal - just putting out the thoughts of a life long (46 years) Longhorn fan.

Me and Vern have gotten along lately but If I have to put him in check there will be no hesitation.
Example: In one day Vern is going to ask the Mods to erase all his ridiculous posts and threads where he shouted from the rooftops telling Hillary bettors to be worried. She's now a gob-smacking -580 before the big day and he was sending out five alarm fire warnings that Trump could win. (He never had a chance).
Man, are you pissed at me. Well, whatever melts your butter.
