I honestly do not think this game will be as close as most people . I think the line which is already out actually at Boise St . -2.5 will be close to what it opens at . I think Boise will win this game and I will be on them. I don't think Va. Tech's team will be any better than Oregon last year and definitely not better than TCU's was and Boise is bringing back everyone in the two deep so they should be better.
Sure it will be a tough environment but Boise went and smacked Oregon at Autzen two years ago and this won't be much different. Just my opinion but I think Boise wins this by 10 points. I just don't see it being as close as a lot of people .

What does Clemson Have to do with this discussion??? Remember kid we did play in the ACC championship game last year
BTW...Watch that smart mouth of yours. I came in here to discuss a little football, so don't try to beat your damn chest when your talking to me... That shit don't fly with me.
And who made you the sheriff of the cfb forum? Get over yourself
"That shit dont fly with me"
Way to represent the Atlantic in that ACC Champ. game btw. You would have finished 4th in the ACC Coastal

Are we really going to compare an Oregon team who began the season unranked to a preseason top 10 squad? This Oregon squad didnt even have Masoli playing and didnt turn the corner until he did.

We don't have to compare the Oregon team and even if Boise would have played them in the middle of end of the year Boise would have still beaten them. We can compare TCU if you want and i'm sorry but this years Va. Tech team won't be as good as last years TCU team , of course that's my opinion and I know you won't agree but that is my take on it. I know most people think Va. Tech is going to win this game just because it is in DC but I just see it going down different . I think Boise wins this game easier than most people think it is going to be. I'm not saying they are going to destroy the Hokies or anything and do not get me wrong I think Va. Tech will have a good team this year but I think Boise can win this game by double digits. I guess that is why they play the game. I will be on Boise myself.

All that I do
know from last year is that Kellen Moore can get rattled
and make bad decisions. That crowd will be insane and very pro-Hokie in
DC on Labor Day.
here's why bibendi MIGHT have a point........looks like you need some help ....
[1st ....me ?.....would expect Boise to win .... a close low scoring
game.....would probably say Boise or nothing .....even if laying 3
.....probably will not play this one.....except for halftime maybe]
gotta remember.... although very impressive.....Moore in 2 years has
faced a grand total of 4 even challenging defenses.....and a total of
ONE "hostile" environment......10,000 TCU fans an neutral site don't count
2008 .....as rFr
1) @ Oregon......very tough for visiting QB....won 37-32.....
GREAT game by Moore..24-36 ...386 .....3/1
*ducks down to 5th string QB and kinda quit...but Moore played
great
2) v TCU in Poisettia Bowl....lost 17-16
22-35.....222.....0/1.........boise only 15 1st downs.....Moore not
the problem but did throw late pick to halt drive /end game....
2009
3) Ducks at home....Boise wins 19-8
Moore not sharp ....19-29....197.....1/0......2 fumbles.....
4) Frogs in Fiesta.....Boise wins 17-10
Moore 23-39.....211....0/0.....sharp.....not great
* in these 4.......88-139.....1016....4/2 (63%....254....7.3/attempt)
so 39/3 is mentioned.....true but vs one of the worst collection of weak
D's.....and weak pressure D's.....EVER?
2009 opponents ranking......in defensive...
passer rating
118...117...95...89...87...86...77...72....54.....53.....ducks
25...frogs 4....(hokies 8) * yds/att.....yds/game similar..or worse
TFL (tackles for loss) ...meaning how much "push" does DL/LB get....(sacks
misleading)
114...114...114...111...109...103...95...93...65...36...23...ducks
14.....frogs 2 ......(hokies 13)
POINT ?......best to take it game by game.....resist the urge to pat
teams like Boise on the back and think they can't lose under any
circumstance....
pressure is usually on the OTHER team right?.....NOW....pressure is
squarely on THEM.....hokies will be the loose team with one of their strongest offenses in years......AND.....last 6 years are +60 in turnover margin......26-12-1 ATS on road......and i'm reading.....er..."peterson clearly the better coach"........SAY WHAT?

I completely agree last year's TCU team is better than this years Hokies squad but only because I value a great defense much more than offense. That was one of the best defenses in college football history. VT will have a much more potent offense than TCU did last year. Cant blame you for being on Boise as I do think the Hokies will have a tough time stopping them with their inexperience on D, but I also think this is unchartered waters for Boise and we have no idea what to expect from them when facing adversity and a true road setting. Like you said, thats why they play the game. I would play Boise ALL DAY in a neutral setting and everyone knows I dont admit that often, but playing behind 100,000 people is going to be insane. It's just like Miami last year, on a neutral field we probably lose at that point in the season....but we played it in Lane and demolished them....

Tried to somewhat clarify but didnt have all the stats at my disposal. Mine was just a sense of what I was seeing from him while watching the game. He isnt as patient with a little pass rush and forces things. If we dont get any pressure on him he will pick us apart like we are a WAC defense. Therein lies the key to the game IMO

You make very good points . The wac defenses are not good at all and the 2 years Moore has started at QB they have only faced the 4 good d's but for some reason Boise always seems to step up and play a great game when they need to. It seems they always play to the level of their competition . With the experience they have this year I see another great game coming from them to open the season and I do not think Moore is going to be rattled .
Also on the Peterson comment , it is not that I think Beamer is a bad coach or anything , in fact he is a great coach but Peterson always seems to come up with a great play or two for his teams in big games that they execute that change the tide of the game into Boise's favor and that is why I give him the edge here. I've tried to bet against Boise before in big games and I get burned everytime I do it. After the Fiesta bowl last year i won't let it happen again. If I lose this one then it will be because Va Tech is a legitimate top 5 team because i think Boise is very legit this year.

How many big games has Tyrod Taylor won? Sorry dude but the ACC was a joke last year. Making one pass against Nebraska on a wing and a prayer against blown coverage doesn't do it for me.
Listen, you made a statement and you were wrong. We all watch CFB and you are the only who thinks Moore gets rattled. He played a very good game against TCU. I could care less if he threw a TD pass or not. He played good against what was one of the best defenses in CFB in the biggest game of the year. I think Bookie Assassin just feels sorry for you. He is too smart to agree with a dumb statement like that.
I think your statement of "I don't see Boise State play much" is quite obvious. You can talk about competition all you want but very few quarterbacks can put up the wins and numbers Moore has so early in their career.
If Boise was in the ACC last year I think they would have won the conference, so I wouldn't be picking on the WAC too much. The ACC was won by a team that allowed 30 points per game. That conference was terrible.
You need to stop jumping to conclusions based on one or two plays. You are the same guy who started the thread "Greg Paulus is a stud" after he played half a quarter against Minnesota in the opener.
Don't make dumb statements that shows your lack of knowledge on the sport and then act surprised when people call you out on it.

It's amazing what we deem good teams nowadays.

So Tyrod Taylor winning 2 ACC Championship Games and an Orange Bowl isnt enough?
My statement was not wrong, I firmly believe Moore makes bad decisions when he is pressured. It's not like its a myth that most QB's do as well, but he is viewed as a god around here. He completes a majority of his passed because they are almost all under 10 yards in that offense. He hasnt played a real road game since beating a disfunctional Oregon team 2 years ago. There really is no answer to this debate as we have no substance for either argument. You can think Boise would have won the ACC all you want, but that conference wears you down. Boise could have played their backups and won the WAC. Therefore they are fresh for every big game they play. Put them in the ACC and that wouldnt happen. Moore might have actually had a little grass on his jersey more than twice last year.
And yeah, I sarcastically started the Paulus thread last season because I'm from WNY and mockingly cheer for Syracuse. You can try to rip my knowledge of this sport but I dont really care, hopefully it makes you feel better about yourself

I dont see this being a high scoring game at all. I am seeing the Hokies winning the game 21-14 or 21-17. First game jitters, along with playing in front of a hostile crowd will surely, in my mind, keep the Boise offense somewhat off key. I love these discussions and disagreements, that means football season is just around the corner.

I swear you guys are gonna have me taking the hokies.....just like last year when it was (for some strange reason).....hokies were gonna SPANK bama !.....> told you bama was gonna whip their ass (at line of scrimmage).....lost by only 10 but outgained 498 to 155....broncos tough but no bama....(unless you think bama would get shredded by Idaho at home.....or allow 8.2/rush to Fresno)
now things have changed.....hokies can move it
yards per play...'08 ranked #95 at 4.4 '09.... #17... at 5.9 rushing.... (yds/rush).....'08... #61 ...at 3.6 '09...#12 ....4.8 passing....(yds/attempt)...'08.....#73 at 6.2 '09....#7 ...8.3 * all stats vs (winning) teams only CFBstats.com .... * not vs WAC D's.....Bama....Nebraska... N Caro.....B College.....Miami.....
guess what....better again this year... OL......return 3.....lose 2 very good players...bout the same or (maybe) slight decline....6 have started WR/TE....all back...top 2 av over 20 yds/rec RB......as a group....best in school history QB......gone from liability to threat.....yds/attempt ? #1 in the nation at 9.5.....passer rating ? #13 at 149........(6.0/att....and 103 PR in '08)
ACC can play boys.........
The impediment to action advances action - what stands in the way becomes the way.

no doubt this game will be analyzed into the ground, being top 5-10 matchup and best of the week one, DC metro is the largest base of VT alumni so basically a home game, VT lost here 24-13 (trailed 14-13 with 5 min to go) to a dominant USC team (eventual NC 55-19 over OU)
BSU has basically played 4 legit games over couple yrs, twice each against Oregon and TCU, with horned toads being the much closer similar to VT, Ducks simply don't have the defense equal to the other two, which leaves the two matchups against TCU as similar to this one, both good games 16-17 (275 yds rushing for TCU) and 17-10 (36 yds rushing for TCU), one offensive TD for BSU in both games however VT defense with losses is not as good as TCU's the past couple years although Foster will get the most out of them if Rivers is recovered from march surgery
game will likely come down to whether VT can run the ball since Taylor passing is not great against better defenses, so which TCU version of matchup will show up 275 yds rushing or 36 yds....or somewhere in between
one problem last year was TCU not committed enough to the run (and possibly bit flat after just missing out on NC game)....only 11 rushing atts not including 9 by Dalton running for his life - ridiculously low number and bad game plan. If VT commits to the run and gets 200+ rushing they could control the game as TCU did couple years ago, otherwise if they can't run then they will be more like TCU last year, leaning towards VT being committed to success running the ball and if so they will have a good shot even if defense gives up some points

Normally I would agree with those of you that like the over in this game. The only problem is I hate betting overs early in the season because you never which offenses will start slow in that first game. Think of Oregon/Boise State last year. If they played that game a month later those two teams probably put 70 points on the board. Other than that, both offenses look strong, so they should be able to move the ball. I will probably lay off and just watch this one but good luck.

Two great teams and coaches, I've got to side with Emerald here. Going into last year's Bowls a lot of touts and sharps had TCU the best team in the country or just a hair behind Bama and Gators. Blame the game plan, lack of attempting run game, or whatever, Boise took it to them. 80 of 85 scholarship players are back including every starter. boise biggest hole is that defensive coord Justin Wilks left to Tenn. Experienced players especially overlooked linemen so important in early season, got to side with proven experienced guys on both sides of the ball moreso than the home field. So I'll go with Emerald and be on Boise to cover the 3. 66+ days to kickoff

Last year Boise State defeated two teams that went to BCS bowl games (Oregon and TCU). Virginia Tech beat none. I don't know which team is going to win but the lack of competition argument with Boise is getting old and tiresome.

While Boise most likely wouldn't go 12-0 or anything close in a BCS conference- the point is when you give Petersen 6 weeks or more to prep for a team, he's going to win. He's proved it time and time again- which is why, along with basically all returning starters, Boise wins.
During fall camp, he can spend less time teaching the O and the D schemes, and more time planning for his attack against VT.
I'll be on Boise, but it should be a great game either way..

Very early but I do lean Boise here. The Broncos offense was evidently one of the best last year and they return everyone on that side of the ball so I don't see anything changing. On the flipside, this will be a tough cover for VaTech who brings in 7 new defensive starters including key players in Worlids and leading tackler Grimm. No matter how talented the replacements for the Hokies maybe, it is a tall task to come in the first game of the season and expect to be clicking against anyteam let alone this high powered offense. The key obviously will be for VaTech to control the clock with Williams and Evans and keep that Boise offense off the field. If they are unable to do that, no matter how great this running back tandum is it will not keep up with the Boise pass offense.
I give a lot of respect to Coach Beamer and this VaTech program for scheduling such a game.
