Very early but I do lean Boise here. The Broncos offense was evidently one of the best last year and they return everyone on that side of the ball so I don't see anything changing. On the flip-side, this will be a tough cover for VaTech who brings in 7 new defensive starters including key players in Worlids and leading tackler Grimm. No matter how talented the replacements for the Hokies maybe, it is a tall task to come in the first game of the season and expect to be clicking against anyteam let alone this high powered offense. The key obviously will be for VaTech to control the clock with Williams and Evans and keep that Boise offense off the field. If they are unable to do that, no matter how great this running back tandum is it will not keep up with the Boise pass offense.
I give a lot of respect to Coach Beamer and this VaTech program for scheduling such a game.
I meant to say Worlids and Grimm will not return.

I dont see this being a high scoring game at all. I am seeing the Hokies winning the game 21-14 or 21-17. First game jitters, along with playing in front of a hostile crowd will surely, in my mind, keep the Boise offense somewhat off key. I love these discussions and disagreements, that means football season is just around the corner.
Tideman, what's up, hope you are enjoying the summer.
I agree with your scores, but I reverse the winner on this one.
I am wanting some football so bad I read this entire thread, took me back to last year, I can't wait for the season to start.

Last year Boise State defeated two teams that went to BCS bowl games (Oregon and TCU). Virginia Tech beat none. I don't know which team is going to win but the lack of competition argument with Boise is getting old and tiresome.
yeah but gotta clarify...... unless you're one of those that think they could actually compete and WIN the SEC.........
they have certainly proven they can ...FOR ONE GAME.....play with anybody.....and since that is what we are talking about most always....(one game).....the ol ...."hey they don't play anybody" stuff is probably silly......
However......when discussing /comparing teams.....competition level (should) be factored in....KEY.....is the week to week .......sustained effort......the pounding... mentally and physically takes it's toll * but then again.....that argument is also a waste of time maybe....for as long as we VOTE.....like chicks might....rather than fight and decide on the field ...like MEN ......we are reduced to these stupid arguments

Now we all agree Boise offense is good Hokie Defense unproven
V Tech Offense better than years past Bronco D returns alot of starters with long time to prepare
Beamerball special teams rules.....Petersen is a master creating trick plays
The key to the game is is Hokie offense setting the pace, or keeping up with Boise
I would like to see V Tech attack the new cornerback taking over Kyle Wilson's position(Star in the making for NY Jets) except Boise knows. Maybe Tech can got to their useless tightend because who would really expect him to have a career game.

Man I have had a great Summer, but like you, I am ready to get this thing kicked off.
I am looking forward to this game to start off the year. It looks like I am in the minority, with my VT pick, but I we will just have to wait and see what happens. Good Luck this season, and I am looking forward to discussing the games with you again this year.

I think thats definately a factor bookie and don't think thats a lame argument. Put Boise in the SEC for a year and they would not make a BCS bowl game imo.

since i like to over- think things....have been in several HEATED sports bar arguments over this "Boise is AS good as anybody" ......thing.... OK .....let's give 'em S Caro's schedule last year.......since everybody knows they suck......and Spurrier can't coach.....(anymore).......AND ....let's have a 16 team play-off too......> based on final AP top 25.....my idea......so we fight it out
here are the teams they would have to beat to make it to title game .....(with play-off) what are their chances .......to handle this.......?
S Miss > Ga > @ Auburn > Bama > @ Kentucky (hell they lose here) > @ Vandy > Tenn > Ark > @ Fla >Troy > @ Clemson......we'll remove SEC title game of course) play-offs.... Ga Tech > Ohio St > Bama > then Fla ....or Texas ..in title game
hey they're top 5 caliber right?.....why are you laughing ?........correct.....they would wear down and get killed.....lack of depth would be EXPOSED in a big way...broncos (accustomed to "getting up" for 2-3 games /year.....now "up" for 9-10 +......Peterson is a lame dumbazz coach immediately.....like Spurrier.....

If they played that SCaro. schedule they have at least three losses. And that is best case scenario. and thats is taking into account they can keep their qb upright for the whole season.
These "Boise can win in the SEC" guys are clueless.

Think most schools would have 3+ losses playing South Carolina's schedule this year, considering it's the 2nd hardest in the nation...

No s**t. That's the point. It's the SEC. Every week is tough in league. You can give Boise any SEC schedule and they are losing three min. even in their best years.
I don't think some here realize how hard it is to play is a physical conference like that every week. It takes it's toll. Boise would be a middle of the pack team imo.

Agree they'd lose at least a couple.. think a 1 loss SEC team probably passes an undefeated Boise in NT game..

on the other hand..... just switch Boise and S Caro.....stadiums and all give Spurrier a healthy team....with week after week of nations worst D's.....throw in a "garnet" field......and then only allow 1000 visiting fans in..... promise you he matches or comes very close to what Boise has done ....Peterson is all of a sudden OK ....or on hotseat.....the ball coach a genius

Have t admit, it was only a couple of days ago I found out this was a 1st week game. A lot fo time on the WC this yr, so, with that said.
I would agree with your statement, cause I see the VT Defense taking a step back and Boise always open to play full tilt. Add that to a couple of ST and defensive TD's I see coming, we should have an over here.
Look forward to chattin with you on this stuff but have not read enough to give any credit to what I say

Bibendi.... Love the hokie love as your icon... I really like the hokies in this spot but am biased... I wuld perfer if the line was like vtech -5 or so this line is scaring me a little but i think that if you give bud foster this much time for a game he is gunna pick them apart. I know that were gunna be a little rough on D this year but i mean foster is legit hes the spagnuolo in the ncaa. Also people are under estimating the fire power that the hokies possess this year. Darren Evans and Ryan Williams in the back field and hopefully tyrod has matured to his full potential this year and will command the offense very strongly this year... Not to mention beamer ball ! !
GO HOKIES

longtime lurker, had to join with NCAA foots around the corner.
I think we need to take into account the environment that Boise is going into.. Yeah they beat Oregon last year(on the turf). VT will have 90% of the fans.
Dissing Tyrod Taylor as passer, fine, but he is a great athlete that Boise will have to account for, he will make plays with his feet.
I like VT here and I am glad to see 80% of the love going to Boise.. And please dont give me the crap about my # of posts to have a valid point.

looks like the Boise St ticket allotment was 7500 (700 remain) while VT was allotted 40K, other tickets entire lower level Fed Ex other tickets already sold out
