How is Tech going to stop Boise? They won't! Boise wins this game easily!
Because against a halfway decent defense at home they scored 19 and then that some offense MUSTERED 10 points against TCU(7 were a pick 6)....you west coasters really need to get over this. The Boise offense was ineffective against anything but a WAC defense last year
And Coach Peterson more than knows this...
He has trick plays all over his playbook because that is the only way he moves the ball against real teams. Boise is in for a rude awakening

Looking back 2009 Boise avg scoring 50 points vrs the WAC, and 33 vrs everyone else. Difficult to say a teams offense was ineffective, especially since they have won 50 games the past 4 yrs and when they do play a legit team, they may only score 17-20 points, but they win. This team is 92% SU over the L4 yrs, like em or not, thats sick.

the fact that you are an East Coaster talking about West Coast bias is a strong indicator that your own bias clouds your thinking...
from my experience, West Coasters are far more willing to accept the dominance of an East Coast team, than the other way around... you are a classic example of that fact...
Boise is the better team... they have been for a few years... and i would bet money that there are not 10 people on these forums who have placed more bets on Virginia Tech over the past 15 years than i have... i rode that train for years... for 3 years straight i bet on them blindly every game... so this has nothing to do with an anti-VT perspective...
i just do my best to see things as they are... i think it would behoove you to start doing the same... VT has issues, and has for a few years now... primarily, their vaunted defense is suspect against teams with a wide open and versatile offense... on top of that, they are a bit too one-dimensional offensively...
this game breaks down like this: if you have VT, and you get a 10-14 point lead, you are not in the clear... if you are Boise, and you get a 10-14 point lead... you are in the clear...
i wouldn't want to be holding a VT ticket in this game... they will have to get the jump on Boise to win it... that's a lot of pressure to put on a team, especially with a young offense, against a very veteran team on the other side...
never trying to talk anyone out of a bet... but your perspective is clearly too skewed for your own good..,.

Hokies will send them back to the blue field where they belong. They finally go out to a real test and WILL get a dose of REALITY and send them home early with no title hopes and all the questions will finally be answered---Barely got out of TULSA and LUCKED OUT AT LA TECH last year (only one mans opinion)

I don't care who wins. To me, this game screams under. I don't think Foster will blitz Moore as much as he would an average QB, especially with such a young defense. Boise's offense loves yo take what a defense gives them. On the other side, we all know Tech wants to pound the football. They are breaking in a few new lineman though, and Boise tackles as well as anyone.
What's more, both teams will be waiting for the other to make the first mistake, and they could be waiting a long time. I'm feeling something like 20-16, 23-19, around there. Who's on top and who's on bottom is too hard for me to figure out.

First of all, great to see a lot of old heads back (Ksuwins, Bibendi, Tideman Doubleup and many others), and it's great to be back. Definitely looking forward to this being my best season ever!!!
I totally agree with FSU above. I'm well aware of the Boise mystique, but that mystique was built largely on the blue carpet. And the last time I was FedEx Field the natural grass (not turf) there was quite green. Moreover, as good as Boise has been over the past few years, they have almost always struggled to score against big-boy defenses, and I can say with confidence that VT's defense certainly qualifies as such.
As easily as Bama has the best running back tandum in the country, with the return of Darren Evans, VT might just as easily have the #2 RB tandum in the country. Then throw in Balljoint (who I think will be one of the best QBs in the nation this year), and this will easily be the best offensive backfield Boise will see all year.
In sum, I believe VT will field the better offense, the better defense, and probably a better special teams in this game. Furthermore, this will be a home game for the Hokies, and will be played on grass. For all these reasons I believe the wrong team is favored here.
Before the line came out on this game I was prepared to lay 3 points with the Hokies and feel very comfortable with my bet. In a game where I think VT will score in the 30s, and Boise probably won't eclipse 17, I will certainly make a substantial early season wager on VT on taking whatever points I can get.
oh and for the love of God . . . FREAK OUT!!!

VT to the house baby! ...and my detailed, precise reasons why...too much collard greens, limas and cornbread!
Bendi, i wanna thank you and others for these kinds of threads. It really helps me in my handicapping. Can you please tell me what other guys on here have YOUR same PERSPECTIVE on games? Much much appreciated.

good to see you around for another year of football. I agree with you completely on the Boise / VTech game. Boise may come out strong, but the ground n pound from the Hokies will be too much for them in my opinion. and should be able to pull away later in the game. The better team getting points? all day long, all day strong. Hokies Win

i live around 45 minutes from blacksburg, but i've already dropped 1.5 units on boise ranging from -1 to -3. (the -3 wasn't wise as the number quickly dropped back to -2.5.)
anyways, several factors have pushed me towards boise: 1. the return of all those starters, 2. a quality veteran qb, 3. boise's proven ability to win the big games against quality opposition.
boise's season would basically end before it began if they lose to VT. i anticipate their coaching staff implementing an effective game plan exclusively for the VT game.
it makes me nervous that so many knoweldgeable people are liking VT, but whadayagonnado?

I have made many points on this game in other threads. I will also have a rather large wager on Virginia Tech.

Boise State has a good football team, but not the elite of the country in my opinion. They were flying under the radar and not being taken seriously enough when beating Oklahoma, but now, with all of the publicity, and public outcry in support of Boise, that will not happen again. If Boise was playing and beating quality opponents week in and week out, I would be giving them more love, but beating 1 quality opponent a year doesn't impress me that much. As far as VTech not being as good as in previous years, they were ranked highly last preseason, and played Bama, the national champs down to the wire. I will take physical, over flashy anytime, so my money will be on the Hokies. We will find out soon enough, and if I am wrong, I will be the first one to give credit where credit is due. Good Luck this season

This may be the biggest game in Boise history, ranked in top 5 and a long awaited chance to get a shot at national championship. Everything is on the line for them in this opener. Pick: Boise

Yeah, so is the team you giving no respect. #5 Boise vs. #6 VT
Imagine how good the Hokies special teams would be if they played in the WAC!

And its the biggest game on VT's season in their backyard. These arguments about a team playing harder because it is their only meaningful game is just bogus. Every player on that field is going to be playing to win the game. It's not like Boise says before the game, "holy shit guys, we need this one more than they do! Let's go out there and play extra harder than we normally would b/c this is so much more important!" Its assanine. If you are capping this game based on motivation than you are sorry.

A few valid points here that I would agree with and all points that are scary. I think losing Kyle Wilson was just about as important as losing Kellen Moore would have been for the offense. He was the leader and also a stud in the run support department. His explosive play making ability was so crucial to that defense that its going to be interesting to see how they adapt. If Ryan Williams can get outside of the tackles, not having Wilson is going to be a huge, huge loss.
2. Veteran QB is going to be crucial in this game. An inexperienced QB would get eaten alive by this crowd, but I think Moore has what it takes to perform. Now, he hasnt tossed up good numbers against actual defenses and doesnt have a start under his belt since the beginning of the 08 season against a quality team on the road. Should be interesting to see how he plays in this one.
3. Boise just gets the job done. Although all of their big games have either been a neutral crowd or a home game. So cant wait to see how they respond. If they win this game in this environment, I will never doubt them again. I think the combination of the stage and quality of opposition is going to be a little too much here though
And just so everyone knows, if this is on a neutral field there is no doubt I'd be on the Broncos. However, all the stars are aligning for my Hokies here
