Leaning Orange here. In the last three years Wake's defense keeps giving up more points. 2008 they gave up 18.3 ppg, 2009 26.3 ppg and 2010 35.8 ppg. Orange men have gotten better 2008 gave up 32.7 ppg ,2009 37.9 ppg and 2010 19.3 ppg.

The Orange has been hit hard with injuries so far. The two starting safties have a fractured jaw and dislocated shoulder......I thought they'd open as a larger favorite as the offense should be very potent this year

nc1capper...agreed....wake may be flying under the radar here......i was on the 'cuse a few times last year, but feel like this one may go right down to the wire...couple of scrappy teams with the heart factor.

Orange wide receiver Marcus Sales got busted driving with open an open container and other drugs. I dont know exactly what punishments hes looking at, but I doubt hes playing against Wake in week 1. Sales had 26 receptions for 414 yards, with 4 touchdowns.
Jarrod West, another Syracuse wide receiver was cited for underage drinking as well. West is most likely looking at a suspension as well.

At first glance I leaned on the Orange. The more I look into this game, the more I dont trust Syracuse. I wouldnt be surprised to see Wake show up and steal this first game. The points look good to me, with a little on the ML too.

They have decent depth at receiver.........it's the 2nd team OLine and secondary that's banged up.......I understand a lot of them will return to practice by Thursday

I am leaning towards SU. Here are some notes I've been taking. Feel free to update me on incorrect info.
Syracuse returns the top five leading receivers
from 2010 (receiver Sales may be suspended for this game), four of five
lineman, a solid qb
with around a 2.3 to 1 TD to Int ratio, and a good experienced running
back in
Antwon Bailey who played in all 13 games last year and average about 5
yards a
carry. This offense will be in sync. The cuse returns two solid De’s
with 7
sacks between them last year and are replacing their two defensive
tackles with
a sophomore and a senior who saw action in all games last year. They are replacing their two most productive
defensive players in their linebacker group. This will be a sore spot for Syracuse. The two starting corners from
last year are being replaced by a sophomore and senior. The defense will be deciding factor in this
game.

WF has a sophomore qb in Tanner Price who is still trying to find his
bearings. He has showed he has talent.
Last year he threw three td’s against Duke but threw 4 picks against BC.His consistency hasn’t developed
enough to be a weapon especially if throws more picks than td’s this year like
he did last year.Josh harris is a good
back that average 5.7 yards per carry and ran for 241 yards against VT last year. The Wide receiver
position is a sore spot for Wake. They
have numbers but only one receiver Junior Chris Givens has proven that he can
play.Beyond Chris Givens and Micheal
Campanaro, who had 10 catches last year, the receiving corp is nothing to brag
about.Tanner Price won’t have many proven
weapons to throw to.The deacons return
four offensive lineman so that is a bright spot on offense. Thedefensive line is a good unit with senior de
Tristan Dorty at end and freshman All-american who while undersized(5-11,260)
is a good player.Their linebacker corp
will be in ?this year. They bring
back a solid backer in Joey Ehrmann but Kyle Wilber is a converted DE and 4 other players can vie for the last spot. This team’s DB's was next to last year in past defense and
most of that group will return. This is
where I think SU gets the edge.

I am leaning heavily on The Orange. I have SYR in the early 40's PR and I have WF in the 80's. The Orange were horrible in the Carrier Dome last year 0-4 against FBS teams, but that means it will be a point of emphasis this year!
The Orange led off the Season as a 8.5 Fav in a similar spot with most of the public riding Akron (I was one of them).
They covered by 17.5, which showed me that the coaching staff is great at summer prep!

I love how people just say "bad spot" with no explanation. Why is a home opener with Rhode Island on deck a bad spot for Syracuse? Ridiculous comment. It's what people say when they don't have any reasoning for a pick.
