Week 1 Observations and Overreactions

Hi!    Taking it slow early this season, too many new faces in new places.  Will take a month just to figure out who is where and what they are doing.

Didn't discuss Week 0, but just take the other team in every Nebraska game.  They were trying to give it away yesterday against the other ND

Backyard Brawl return with 2 former USC QB's was weird, but it was a fun game to watch.   'Neers have some talent at WR

Purdue at home is tough no matter who the opponent is

VTech always loses to one of those teams every year don't they?

UNC is choosing to not play defense this year, pay attention to those Overs

East Carolina kicker should not check his social media this week.  Missed tying PAT and GW FG in final few minutes of the game

Dillon Gabriel looked like a usual OU QB who will get the usual Heisman hype for a while then have an ugly game or two

Bo Nix will transfer to the CFL next year ensuring he won't have to play Georgia ever again

Cincinnati needs new shoes after shooting themselves in the foot repeatedly against the Hogs

Big flip in the Texas State/Nevada line may have cost many many people

James Madison throttled MTSU

Cam Rising did not need to force that ball into that little window, he had downs and time.  Good game in the Swamp.  Big win for Napier, will give him some respect in the local and national media.  

Spencer Rattler Heisman Watch:  227 yards, 1 TD 2 INT.  Picked up right where he left off.   He's in South Carolina if you didn't know

Buckeyes got a little banged up but did enough to beat the Irish.  Defense looked really good

Louisville was my 'team' this year... but Cunningham looked bad with 2 3rd quarter INTs and they couldn't stop Cuse's running game.  Bet their RSW Over 6, figured 4-5 wins in the first 5 games.  Gonna have to make one up now, but it's the ACC so you never know

I said this in another thread…but I think Louisville and Nebraska are the two most disappointing teams. We could see that with The cornboys but Louisville not even being competitive was shocking.

Louisville Syracuse is a tough one. Syracuse looked really good. QB throwing, running. And defense kept good coverage and pressure.

Was Louisville that bad, or Syracuse that good? 

These will be two teams to watch next few weeks.

I picked Louisville as my longshot 10 game winner. Waaaaaah.

To be fair, the holder for that extra point didn't spin the laces around, thus he kicked right into the laces.  I'm  totally surprised he didn't lay

into the holder immediately after the miss.  OR, maybe he's just that bad, what do I know.  I just sit on my aZZ and bet on these guys.

Michigan rolled, nothing fancy, defense better than I expected. McNamara slow outta the gate just like last yr.

Terps looked a bit out of sync on offense.

Ohio State wins ugly with defense. TheND 3-13 on 3rd down, that's what Knowles is known for.

Nebraska, Oh my!  ND had 36 min of possession time, and of course Huskers tried another onside kick, failed again.

Bazelak at Indy came through with two minute drive after throwing high most of the day.

Rutgers found a way.

BIG10 is now 10-3 with totals going Under. 

Okl St another typical big 12 ranked team, giving up 44 points and over 500 yards of offense. UNC, my boys, another year of porous defense but QB Maye could be the real deal. App St suffered some key losses on defense and it showed despite 6 returning starters. Gators much improved with Billy Napier running the show, impressive showing over a good Utah team. Ohio State defense, like what I saw although I only caught about half of it.

Yeah their offense can be explosive but I have to face the unfortunate truth that for a big game he is WAY TOO CONSERVATIVE. If I sound like a scorned lover it’s because I am, I was ready to marry this Ohio st offense but now , now … your just like the rest of them “ weeps into the arms of boseph nix”

 I wouldnt read too much into the slow start. Ohio State has ALWAYS started slow. Multiple years they’ve had dud games early in the season and get stronger. Maybe its just their DNA. As for Day, you could be right about big games… I just kinda knew going in that Ohio State may not hit the ground running the way everyone seemed to think

Favorite thread of the entire NCAAF forum. Speaking of the NCAAF, a lot of crap to decipher through but appreciate the good ones still posting, even with all the BS they deal with. What about some of the coaching decisions this weekend? Beginning Thursday in the Backyard Brawl, WV's up late in the 4th with a 4th an less than one in Pitt territory and a bruiser in the back field all night, when Brown decides to punt the ball away. Make a first down and game is probably over. Then on Friday, we get Brohm, who I don't know what the hell he was thinking. With a lead late in the 4th and throws the ball like 11 times. Uh, run the ball, run the clock. Here is a stat I read, App State played UNC in basketball last season, combined total of that game was 120 points, yesterday, 124. Glad we finally got a 12 team playoff. Now we get the 6 conference champions and 6 teams for the Big 10 and SEC fighting it out for the others. I laughed at the poster last night that stated the SEC East killed the PAC 10's playoff chances by 10:30 pm on the opening day. He has a point. LSU, no pressure tonight. SEC still undefeated at this point. In 3 years, you'll have the SEC, BIG 10 and other. Appreciate the thread Warden, you need to come back to puck more often.

 So true on Purdue man…. But if that catch is made game is over. But yea they actually were having some success running ball which is a far cry from last season. I think Brohm went for it and lost. As did I

too bad Illini stupidly (and perhaps because of a bad call) lost to Indiana... Chase Brown for Heisman would have really picked up some steam.. I like Illini as a perma-TAIL but Indiana did stop Brown quite effectively later in the game. HUGE YARDS EARLY... Illini getting the ball to Williams (stud 5-star WR who surprisingly hasn't transferred yet) alot... defense stopped Indiana the whole game except the very end.

Pennix at UW looks amazing...... need to dig deeper but UW defense still had issues. it was complex last year. #1 pass defense in NCAA and they did have 2 NFL studs (who have moved on), but I'm partially thinking the pass D's stats benefitted from the run D being so bad. you could probably make the reverse argument too as UW stuffed the box, but my understanding is that UW played "2 deep safeties........ limit big plays but give up the rushing and short passing yards)

holy Oregon State..... is Boise's time as a power mid-major coming to an end?

why did Oregon go with Bo Nix the entire time? so that their stud freshman and sophomore backups will transfer?.......also, Nix seems to be just what many teams might need but not Oregon. I think Oregon, wanting to get to the NCAA playoffs, needs a dynamic, perhaps higher risk QB. when you are trying to be better teams, you need a mobile QB and/or a very sophisticated passing attack. balanced attack doesn't cut it.... 

in fairness to Nix, Peyton Manning could have QB'd Oregon and it would have been ugly.. UGA was 30/37 and 12 yards a passing attempt with zero interceptions.

watched a live stream of Utah/Florida.. I could not believe the idiots going nuts when "Utah got an extra timeout"

it seemed legit to me and TV even showed (unknowingly to anyone watching) why Utah got one of its timeouts back. a player's helmet came off from Florida before Utah called timeout. I assume it went back on slowly and/or the player was holding up play........ ESPN announcers and the viewers were not aware of this, but evidently Florida's players and coaches were.

so it was fan's calling "huge mistake" when it had been explained to some of them (the later posters) that Utah got a timeout back. or didn't use one that everyone thought they did.

Here is video proof of Iowa getting to 7 points the hard way.   The amount of drops, penalties and blown blocking makes you wonder if either team practiced this summer.

Chris "Howler" Fowler making up things during the ND/OSU broadcast...  twice he screamed something that didn't even happen, one was the bobbling catch by ND which he called an INT for Ohio State.  I can't remember the other one, but it was just as dumb.   Damn I miss Brent

I used the Iowa game to put me to sleep for my Saturday nap. Was out like a light in 2 minutes. And to think, people paid good, hard earned money to watch that crap. What in the hell has happened to Navy btw? A loss to Delaware? See the story about VaTech? Their locker room was robbed during the game. 

Finally,  Michigan does something that I can get behind!
