Last year they added a 4-2-5 alignment they called their "Cash" D with 5 DBs. (Nickel package) The "Cash" DB was unknown Amani Hooker who went on to be the Big 10 DB of the year. His versatility (nickel back-hybrid linebacker) was key to the success the Hawkeyes D had last year. Hooker now plays for the Tennessee Titans. If Iowa uses their Cash alignment any they will be using some green personnel. After facing Miami OH and Rutgers the Iowa secondary will challenged by the dynamic duel-threat of Brock Purdy who takes the Cyclones O to a level Iowa has yet to see in their first 2 games.The Iowa D has had good success against stationary QBs in the past. Purdy is far from just being a pocket passer and his ability to scramble and throw on the run make him unpredictable and dangerous. He is the Wild Card in this matchup. Keep in mind he did not play in this rivalry last year. The Hawkeyes lost 4 starters from their dominant DL last year. But I must note that DE AJ Epeneza was All Big 10 though he came off the bench. Obviously he played a lot. Must admit he is a beast. Some "experts" argue he is the best DL in the league this year.Iowa also lost hard-nosed MLB Jack Hockaday.The Hawkeyes return 4 starters from last years D.On offense Iowa will be without starting LT Alaric Jackson (knee). RG Cole Banwart missed the first two games and Ferentz is hopeful he can rotate him into the game some though that is not a definite yet.The Cyclones 2 deep lineup on both sides is a veteran bunch.
