I'm a Miami diehard so I'll try to be as unbiased as possible. I'm praying for a Canes victory, and my hopes reside with the following.
1. Miami is better at every position than they were last year except TE... It's obvious as to why with regard to QB and WR. As for RB and OL, our starters seized their roles before last year ended. My single position concern on O is RT, but it was last year too. On D, our line has finally returned to the 10 headed monster it used to be. Tons of injuries there last year. We're good and experienced, but only 3 or 4 deep at LB. If one of them goes down, take notice. In the secondary, we return an All-American Brandon at one corner, a 3 year starter opposite him, and have a star in the making with safety Vaughn Telemaque. Our other safety Ray Ray Armstrong worries me a little. He's a 5 star Soph who played a lot last year, will be great eventually, but may not be ready.
2. Miami is healthy. So many injuries last year it was ridiculous, and at key positions. We had d-lineman and o-lineman playing out of position, lost 2 Sophs who were Frosh All-Americans by midseason, and of course Jacory hurt the thumb on his throwing hand. Some said the surgery to repair ligaments hadn't healed properly and that he would have to alter his throwing motion, but after watching him throw vs FAMU, he's 100%. And so is everyone else.
3. Miami is grown up. The JRs were the #1 recruiting class, the SRs were Shannon's 1st class, and all of them have been playing since they were pups. Very few underclassmen will play a part for Miami, and that hasn't been the case for a long time. Guys like WR Leonard Hankerson and DE Allen Bailey would've jumped to the draft in other years, but this crew knows they could do something special.
4. Continuity and upgrade in the staff. This is the 1st year Shannon retains both his OC and DC. When you think about our offense performing so well in it's first season in the system, imagine what it can do in it's second. They showed a little bit of a no huddle, quick strike offense they'll employ if the line has trouble protecting Jacory.
5. Special Teams. Our k/p Matt Bosher is Groza material. Ohio State's specialists haven't been in this sort of game yet.
6. Lamar Miller. Maybe I'm being overzealous about this kid, he's just a RS Frosh, but I haven't seen wheels as fast as his since Devin Hester. He'll return kicks, but he's also a skilled RB who will line up in the slot often and get multiple designed touches coming off the bench. All the other Canes are amazed at the next gear he possesses. Miller could be the best kept secret in the country.
