Rumors of Spurrier's demise are greatly exaggerated. His tone has changed dramatically over the last two weeks of practice. He has that garbage eatin grin back..... I would be very careful fading him on this one. There is still a huge talent difference favoring Gamecocks on this one.

I usually stay away from over-unders once I get a real good feel for the teams, but this is week one, it isn't possible to know much.
Spurrier is not going to let his team get torched this year like Texas A & M did last year in week one. North Carolina was 6 and 7 last year, 4 and 4 in the ACC. North Carolina simply doesn't have the 4 and 5 star recruits like the best SEC teams have. The ACC is waaay below the quality of the SEC, it just is. North Carolina averaged 39 points a game last year but they didn't play SEC caliber teams, pure and simple.
I like the under 64 points here. South Carolina will step up defensively enough to keep an average ACC team below 30 points at home or this SEC team has regressed a very long way from where they once were.

My main amigo has hit the board. Great to see Irish back capping. I might have been a bit hasty jumping on the Tar Heels. I'm hoping for a shootout type of game for me to cover. If it goes under I lose. Good luck this season Irish and keep in touch my friend And watch out for the guys who posted after you they're all pretty good cappers. That's why I know I'm in trouble here

The line appears to be about right. Gamecocks need to step up- last season was a dissappoinment to say the least. Tar Heels show a lot of potential, but this is not the ACC!
SOUTH CAROLINA - 3

spurrier can be as fired up and ready to go as he wants... a lot of coaches are. doesn't mean he will get the results. the sec is better than the acc, but the acc fared pretty well against them last yr and unc recruiting is pretty similar to the gamecocks. i'll take the seasoned team and the HOME team +3 pts.

correction... game at bank of america stadium... still in north carolina, but will probably be more of an even split. i'll still gamble on the heels

Is there any reason to believe UNC's defense isn't still terrible? I think SC's practices are probably better. The ol' ball coach is hungry and SC seems more likely to me to be game ready in all aspects of the game week one. UNC might get flagged 15 times. I know they've got a lot of weapons and talent on offense, but I predict they will make too many mistakes to keep this game close.

SC wasn't ready last yr when they got blasted at home vs A&M... that might change this yr, but i dunno

i wouldnt usually pick a ACC team over a SEC team, but with Gene Chiztik being the DC for UNC, i think they will beat the crap out of USC. Chiztik has always had Spurriors number
USC has proven they cant finish a game (based on last year) UNC playing at home
Connor Mitch is going to be a great QB, but thats prolly going to happen later rather then sooner
28-17 UNC Bet UNC moneyline

Charlotte closer to Columbia than Chapel Hill, I would look for it to be an equal atmosphere.
Can't see how the heels are improved at all from last season, but then again last season you never knew which team would show up. I think I would side with the Old Ball Coach who has NEVER lost to UNC even when he was coaching Duke.
Take the Cocks, give the points, a push at the new line of -3 is likely.

Wow opening game in the Panthers stadium. Last time Tar Heels played there was last year when they got destroyed 40-21 by Rutgers. Bad Memories for them.
North Carolina clearly has the better offense with a experienced QB while South Carolina lacks the experience in QB
Not a fan of this game so I'm passing but if I had to make a pick I would wait until the line goes to 3 and Take the Tar heels.
North Carolina+3 (Small Play)

Ole Ball Coach is trotting out a new QB so I don't expect him to let this one get into shootout mode. Gamecocks control the pace all the way which keeps us well UNDER the total of 64.

GREAT DAY GENTS! Oh it's great to be back in the saddle for another College Football Season. Respect to my Forum Elders Colonel and Irish. I love reading your views and opinions. To Lordzud, I love your write-ups as well. Keep them coming. Now down to the nitty gritty!
I love the Ole Ball Coach and he has made and cost me money on these opening nights. Here are some interesting facts since he's been at the helm at SC:
These are strictly opening night numbers
SU 10-1
ATS 6-5
Favored 5-5
Dog 1-0
O/U 3-8
With the exception of the anomaly that was Texas A&M on opening night. Spurrier is money every time. So I definitely see the Cocks for the win. Going back to the 2013 opening match up against the Tar Heels I watched every snap of that game (yes, it was at USC) I remember it being extremely hot and UNC's defense just could not keep up. Spurrier ran the ball down there throats and kept his own defense fresh by continuously shuffling players in on the D-Line. Trust me it made a huge difference and UNC couldn't get any push on the Gamecock O-Line. Tonight I am sure you will see more of that game plan from Spurrier eliminating the need to show off an inexperienced QB.
Secondly, the under is the real play here. Historically, 3-8 on opening night are strong enough odds for me. There will be plenty of running and just enough to get through this game. Spurrier will not want to impress anyone tonight, there will not be an over. I do not see over 60 points and the defense usually has the advantage early in the season as the offense gets there timing down.
Hope I've provided something that hasn't been thought of. My final picks:
USC -2 -103 (still at my book) small play just because its such a low number
Under 63.5 standard play.
Good luck to all!!!
