That's actually how my great grandfather died. It is a real shame to hear this from a little kid.

Well like I said...Tabata was a throw in. I was giving you the closer you've been asking for and draft picks. Guess it was to no avail. Oh well.
Nothing for Harper? I'm willing to take a flyer and hope he gets called up.

I got you. I was hoping for the best.

if a player is in AAA or the farm system still and doesnt get called up is he still eligable for Major League's Rookie of the year award ?? im asking cause the rules on a Prospect Contract say "the player Must be eligable for Rookie of the year Award" so if he stays in the minors and has ZERO Major League experience how can he be eligable for ROY award.. i have Rizzo and say he stays in the minors all year can i tag him with a Prospect Contract ??

He plans to give Harper the franchise tag for next year. Then he can give him the 4-year contract as a rookie next year.

im just trying to figure out the rules and when Uriss mentioned Harper a couple things came to me that i was unsure of... if he tags him with a Franchise Tag this year he cant give him a 4yr contract next year cause the franchise Tag means you get to keep a "breakout" player for an additional 1 year only (thats what the rules state) who was drafted by you in the final 10 picks of the draft or a player off FA list, NOT waivers..
(even though Harper fits both these requirements he'll be considered his Franchise guy and keeps him for next year only, u cant tag a guy w/2 contracts.. the franchise tag you put on a player at the end of this season carries till the end of next season and its only to extend a player an additional 1 year..)
im not trying to start anything but now im getting confused cause i thought i read the rules and understood them pretty good...
unless your aloud to Franchise Tag a player and that lets you keep him for next year then at the end of next year you can use your Prospect Contract on him but then that defetes the whole purpose of what the "Franchise Tag" is... its a BONUS CONTRACT to let us keep a player for an Additional 1 year, not 5yrs...
Help us out ManRam.. just trying to understand the rules so everythings the same across the board..
i like the idea of having a extra 3-5 man Bonus Roster that you can keep Prospects on and then you should have like a wk to decide if you wanna keep them once they get called up, if not they go back into Free agency...

HERE'S THE "FRANCHISE TAG" RULES FROM OUR MAIN WEBSITE
At the end of the season each team will be allowed one additional bonus contract. This bonus contract can be used to sign any player currently on your roster who is on a 1-year contract to remain on your team for next season only. You may only use this bonus contract on a player who:
Was drafted by you in the final 10 picks of the draft or,
Was not drafted by you but picked up as a free agent (not claimed on waivers) during the season; or,
Was acquired through trade as long as the player would have been eligible on his original team.
Under no circumstances can you use this bonus pick to extend the contract of a player whose current multi-year deal is expiring. You cannot use your bonus contract on the same player two years in a row. This bonus contract allows a team to keep a breakout star for one more year. It could also be a great tool to reserve a rookie prospect.
(SO BASICALLY IF A MINOR LEAGUE PLAYER DONT GET AN AT BAT IN THE MAJORS YOU CAN ONLY KEEP HIM FOR 1 MORE YEAR CAUSE YOU CANT "PROSPECT CONTRACT HIM" SO YOU'LL HAVE TO "FRANCHISE TAG" HIM BUT THATS GOOD FOR 1 YEAR ONLY, ITS A BONUS CONTRACT)

I mean...they aren't rookies if they don't play. To put it another way...if they aren't called up...then they're be eligable for ROY this year AND next year?

But it says in the rules...
"Also at the end of the season, each team will be allowed one Prospect Contract. This contract can be used on any player who is on your roster and is also eligible for Major League’s Rookie of the Year award."
So, as a minor leaguer, you're not eligible for Major League's Rookie of the Year award.

read my 2 posts carefully.. im not tryin to be a dick but the Prospect contract clearly states the player must be Eligable for ROY award and that means he must step on the field for a Major league game... say he doesnt play at all then you can Franchise Tag him this year but then you only have him till the end of next year.. i highlighted everything in Post 217 and 218.
