And the Oscar for best supporting actor goes to one and only Neymar Jr

I just don't get why FIFA allows these clowns to make a mockery of the game

He is actually a terrible actor.  Pretty sure that these antics are hurting him getting calls at this point.

But I do agree - there should be yellows for this type of sh*t.

Pretty sure they got that all wrong.  They were stopping for everything, throw ins, set ups for free kicks etc.

That is not what stoppage time is.

It is pretty vague, but I am fairly certain that the criteria that they used and what FIFA uses are quite different.

I am in total disbelief that Japan let that happen.

All credit to Japan.  

I wish all teams played the way these two did - with no embellishment on fouls and even staying up in the box on questionable PKs.

Strange thing I noticed in 3 of the 6 games so far....

A single defender has been solely responsible for a goal against, and scored a goal for their side in the same game:

France (Pavard)
Spain (Ramos, I know it was an own goal, but close enough)
Belgium (Verthongen)

Thoughts on the opening Brazil/Belgium line

Brazil +110
Belgium +250
Draw +240

I am surprised at any sort of +$ being given on Brazil given their reputation and Belgium's performance today

Right about where I thought the line would be.

So no value play upfront.

Going to look it over in the next several days.  One thing of note, it is very common for a winning team to have a stumble in the WC.  Dont count Belgium out.

Certainly will not be counting out Belgium

 Should have mentioned that I am actually pleasantly surprised at +$$ being given on Brazil as I think that price will go down and the Belgium price will only increase

Sweden / Switzerland -

I was pretty surprised to see the Swiss installed as a slight favorite here.  But even more surprised that nobody is talking about Lichsteiner and Schar both out for the Swiss on suspension.

THIS IS THE STARTING DEFENSE ON THE RIGHT SIDE FOR ALL GROUP GAMES.

To me, this is a big deal.  If there is one area on the field that playing together means more than others - it is in the defense - and to lose 2 guys (one of which is arguably the best player on Switzerland) that make up one side is a huge handicap.

This on top of a Swiss side that has leaked goals already - conceding in every match letting in 2 against CR, and 1 against Brazil in their first match and Serbia.  

The Swiss rely on the playmaking abilities of Shaqiri, Dzemaili and Xhaka - almost more Brazilian in attack than Brazil is now a days.  But after watching Shaqiri in the Premier league for tons of games - he is great when he has space - but really struggles and gets taken out of games early when marked closely and especially with size and strength.  He doesn't perform when he gets roughed up - which is precisely what I think Sweden will do from the get go.

Once again - I think Sweden is seriously underrated here just like in their previous 3 games.  The loss of Sebastian Larsson is a big loss - but Svenson should replace him and while losing some talent-  it is a like for like switch.  

I look for Sweden to boss the midfield, and wear down Switzerland.  Sweden's finishing has been poor, and the strikers definitely need to step up and start finishing - Forsberg, Toivenen, and Berg need to be much better from open play - only 2 of their 5 goals have been from open play (two PK, one own goal) and that just isn't good enough.  I look for them to bomb the right side of the Swiss (Swedens left attacking flank) all game with success.

But all things point me to Sweden in this one.  Big bet for me.  I can see it being a low scoring draw, and Sweden going out on PKs, but I don't see them losing in normal play.

Sweden PK +110 (90 minutes) (2.5 units to win 2.75)
Sweden to advance +105 (2.5 units to win 2.625)

Predicted final score Sweden 1-0

England / Colombia -

Finding it hard to like much of anything in this one - I think the price is fair given Englands form and the James injury doubts.

I do think England have looked messy on defense, and that could lead to some chances against - and they have been lethal finishing - so goals seem likely.

Love the Sweden play here Van... feels like they will bully the swiss up and down the pitch. Shaqiri  is the wildcard for me, that man is a boss. Doesnt get his dues cause he is hidden in Stoke City but something tells me a champs league side just under the big global spenders buys him - sides at the Tot, pool, Juve, Athletico etc level...

 

Need to do a bit more work but a mix of pick-em and qualify is where my mind was headed and will probably follow suit...

I have watched the Belgium winning goal several times now, and if anyone wants to teach a youngster textbook off the ball movement, watch Lukaku on the goal.

He never touches the ball - but is the sole reason the goal was scored.  He creates space for the initial pass to Meunier by running away drawing the only defender on that side, and then doubles back by running in to Meunier once the cross was coming, clearing out the backside space.

Just incredible.  And for a younger player to do that - while never touching the ball - is pretty amazing.

Not his day otherwise but you speak facts, what a great goal. Romelu is a great team player and leader with power, strength, great movement and hold up play... If he can learn to shoot without needing 2-3 touches he will be the complete striker perhaps he can learn from Henry or so train with Cavani (the best at it) during the offseason.. This weakness is pronounced and gets more so as the competition gets more intense

I still cannot figure out why they keep the time in soccer secret and on the field. Ridiculous and the only sport that is done this way. Would be very useful to put it on the scoreboard and simply blow a whistle and raise a hand like they do in other sports so everyone knows when the game is over.
