I've dropped 35 pounds by avoiding High Fructose Corn Syrup. Also commited to raw foods as much as I can, reversed my pre-diabetes. Was heading down a slippery slope.

HFCS has been called Sugar on Steroids...................read those labels.
I now use real maple syrup. More expensive, but worth it. I use it twice a week for breakfast, tops

I have been training for 12 years at the gym.
The best way to lower your caloric intake is to cut down on carbs.
When i am training hard and in diet mode, i would have on a typical day
Breakfast - Whole grain oats, if you want hardcore, have it with water - NOT MILK.
Omlet - 3/4 egg whites , only half of the yolk, throw the rest out.
Protein shake - Make sure it is the natural one, not the one with aspartine, that stuff is not good for you. The natural ones have a slightly higher carb intake, but it is better for your health.
Mid morning - can of tuna in spring water
Lunch - Chicken (size of the palm of your hand) with some brocolli
Afternoon snack - Nuts, raw cashews / raw almonds
Train at the gym
Dinner
Steak / Chicken / fish with vegetables.
Protein shake
Make sure throughout the day, you are drinking as much water as you can, no soda.
No bread, no sweets
1 day a week, typically Sunday, you can cheat a little, have what you were craving for, a pizza, burger , some chocolate - only one day though..
If you follow this, i will assure you that you will lose alot of weight.
