My mom and sisters all went vegetarian over a decade ago. Well, one of my sisters ate bacon for the first time last week, and then tried some chicken crusted with almonds
She is a believer. Mom is coming around, but she swears that she doesn't like meat anymore. I tell her to at least make a stab at more fat and less carbs. At least i have gotten her to try (and cook) some more paleo friendly items. It definitely seems expensive to eat this way. At first glance. however, i think my monthly food bill is about the same, and getting healthy is priceless
I live in amish country, and i garden, so am privy to some local things others aren't as fortunate to acquire on the dollar-cheap
my weekly breakfast bill
4 doz free range brown eggs = 6$
3 lbs bacon = 8$
onions, peppers have been free from garden, and i scour the day old discount bins, can find mushrooms for .99, and most my meat i buy half off. had filets wrapped in bacon for breakfast on saturday while i smoked a pork butt that i bought for 60% off
I'm rarely hungry for lunch, but will snack on some nuts, and have made a gnarly granola substitute from seeds+honey and some other shit. I grille extra meats, cut them up to put on salads, or will just take a small container along to work for a midday snack.
Supper, varies, and is likely more expensive then some other crap i used to eat, but what the hell. 6 gallons of local spring water to get through the week costs 1.50$, and i quit smoking so that 40+$ per week can go towards good fatty cuts of meat
When i started losing weight, with no plan other then to drink only water and avoid all sweets, i would drink a fruit smoothy every morning for bfast. Now i'll have one for 'dessert' if i feel the sweet tooth. home grown frozen strawberries, raspberries and blueberries, had some jersey peaches i had sliced an frozen, and blend with some coconut milk. I leave it thicker and eat like a parfait
instead of when i was drinking them for breakfast i made them runny
