OK. I'm dating myself here, but way back in the infancy of online gambling in January of 2000 I was betting online with a book called Premier League (now out of business or had a transfer of ownership and a name change). I was a $100-$200-$500 gambler back at that point of my life and saw a prop on the Miami Dolphins vs. Jacksonville Jaguars AFC playoff game: Dan Marino completions over/under 10.5. I suspected that the line was wrong but I put $500 on the over anyway. FYI, the correct line on the game was 18.5. Anyway, long story short, the Dolphins trailed 41-7 at the half and Marino was having an awful day with just 6 completions at the half. I feared that he would be pulled from the game and he was pulled in the 3rd quarter after completing his 11th pass and the Dolphins lost 62-7.
The next day I logged onto my account and my account balance was zero. I called in to the book and I was advised that my bet would not be paid due to the line error. The book, however, sent me a check for my account balance in full.
This was the one and only time that I ever took a shot at a bad line with a local or online book because I realized it is a NO WIN SITUATION and it's not morally the right thing to do. If Marino had been pulled before his 11th completion, the book would have surely scored my wager as a loser and I would not have blamed them for doing so. Why would I expect to be paid on such a bad line anyway? I was stupid and I learned my lesson. In fact, over the years, I have called 5dimes and pointed out a few obvious line errors to them. They have always been fair with me and I have played with them for so long I can't remember when I started.
Anyway, I do not believe for one second that someone would bet a line error with a -1200 vs. +1200 spread and not realize they were taking advantage of a bad line. Pleading ignorance is just silly in a case like this. So the guy claims he intended to bet the other side.....that is simply to hard to believe. I am not defending Tony. It seems like he did act inappropriately and he could surely take a lesson in customer service. However, if you go into a store and shoplift and get caught, you will get punished. So why bet obvious line errors....it is akin to shoplifting.
