Is there any alternative ways to get my money from this piece of shit besides going and physically intimidating him??

It's only 2300 but it's the principle that pisses me off. He thinks he can pull one over on me and not pay. That aint gonna fly.

I know you said you don't want to physically intimidate him, but you really need to kick his behind.  Or break in and rob him.

What would happen if you owed the man $2300 and you told him fuque you? What ever would happen, you need to trump in spades. Easy for me to say but would this local use violence? The threat of violence may get you paid but if he tells you no you're already past the point of negoiations and you're probably only beating a dead horse,$2300 worth.gl.

no you can't go beat him up. You can sue him in small claims for breach of verbal contract though. I'd lay even money a judge will rule in your favor if you do it right.

....Serve him a summons to appear. The Sheriff's dept costs 35 bucks to serve.

Being served at school by the Sheriff's Dept.

How embarrassing.  Dude I'll tell exactly what to write on the complaint. He'll pay.

no you can't go beat him up. You can sue him in small claims for breach of verbal contract though. I'd lay even money a judge will rule in your favor if you do it right.

I can take him to court over illegally gambling?

You have a verbal contract correct? A wager between friends is not illegal and he agreed to pay you correct? That verbal breach of contract.

He will THINK he will have to explain illegal gambling to a judge as a bookie but the sc-100 form you fill out will not disclose that to him. He'll pay or he won't show up. I'd file right now and don't talk to him at all. He will call you once he's served.

On the small claims form it says exactly, "Explain why the defendant owes you money"

You write the defendant accepted a friendly wager from me on a sporting event for X amount of dollars. We verbally agreed the loser would pay the winner full amount once the outcome was determined. I one the wager and now the defendant refuses to honor the agreement and has not paid a single dollar.

If you don't file this I will.  He'll get served at his work place, freak out and call you. HE is the one taking action, and in order to defend himself before a judge he will have to say he's a bookie.

You have nothing to lose and everythig to gain.

Better listen to search warrant. He's in Pre-Law.

Seriously, he's right. And the fact that you won the money gambling may not be illegal at all, depending on the laws of your state. What HE did was illegal, by booking the bet. Go get your  money.

    Louisiana Law

    Social Gambling and Charitable Gambling
: Social gambling (for recreational purposes and not for business purposes) such as pool games, personal bets or betting on sports is legal in Louisiana as long as nobody takes a "cut" or fee from managing the transaction (other than awards to the rightful winner). Certain gambling activities such as raffles, bingos and keno which are directly associated with charitable fund-raising for non-profit organizations is legal.

Yep. Office just closed at 4. Tomorrow I'll be calling the clerk's office and get this ball rolling.

Wonder if I can sue for the full 3k that small claims allows?
