 I see all these people whining and crying and blaming about their money because the government took it.  You all knew and know its not legel.  Stop acting surprised and be thankful you will never have to worry about going to jail for it. Yes its pathetic our government has the nerve to spend time and money on this matter.  But fact  is fact you gambled by putting money in knowing damn well its illegal.  Now that someone did get busted everyone is like wtf where is my money.  Seriously?  Are you that dumb that you didnt already factor that possibility in the second you put money in?  Common people wake up.  Oh and to those who say where is my money I NEED this money bigtime, um dont gamble with what you cant afford.

actually, it's not illegal to gamble online but nice try buddy. Certain states maybe, but overall completely legal.

you are 100% INCORRECT...it ISSSSSS perfectly legal to sports bet online....whats NOT LEGAL is for banks to knowingly process funds to and from offshore sportsbooks....get your fact straight idiot

Hmm, well you guys are mostly wrong. The UIGEA in 2006 established that banks and credit cards can't process funds to gambling sites, but quite a few states have laws that make all gambling illegal... including but not limited to Sportsbetting and Poker.  I don't know the exact wording of the laws, so I'm sure there are loopholes to exploit, but states could prosecute individuals for online gambling (also, for tax evasion when they can explicitly trace funds).

nope i'm telling you online gambling is %100 legal to do. There are a few states that have certain laws against it, mostly weird laws on how much or how or stuff like that. But for the most part online gambling is completely legal. If you would like I can send you a few thousand articles explaining this for you.

For example, in Florida:

849.08 Gambling.-- Whoever plays or engages in any game at cards, keno, roulette, faro or other game of chance, at any place, by any device whatever, for money or other thing of value, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor of the second degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083.

And there are quite a few others...

I was saying as I was partially wrong being there is no federal law about wagering.  There are all kinds of federal laws about taking wagers and moving money.  We all knew of the risk going in and thats my point.  Im not trying to say I told you so I'm just trying to say we all knew the RISK of doing this online going in so why is everyone so surprised.  Trust me I think this blows and is so dumb.

haha so your example isn't online gambling at all.. it's just gambling period. But in fact, poker isn't a game of chance ha. Not to mention that is a state law like I said some states have certain laws, some weird ones too. Online gambling is 100% legal. The player can do as much online gambling as they please as long as there isn't some weird law that the state has, and even in those cases the punishment is a simple fine. And there is no one who will be punished of that crime unless they think you are a bookie or something of that sort, then they will search your home and find more information about you and then find some law that you broke to give you a fine so that they save some face. If you would like to debate this some more I gladly welcome it, but the fact is you will lose.

Im perfectly aware of the UIGEA...am a member of the PPA...am a well known online poker pro...etc...etc.etc...so i am extremely well versed in the laws and have dealt with this shit for years

oh and btw...statute 849.08 that you referenced has ZERO grounds in regards to online poker....the part you tried to pick out and show everyone how smart you are applies to a live setting...online is considered  cyber and is not affected by that particular law....noob...lol

I'm agreeing with you that the player will not get in trouble.  But obviously its illegal in some way.  That way is overseas/beted, this is the illegal part (taking bets).  We all including myself gave beted money (obviously an illegal operation).  Therefore I think 100% knew of some risk going in maybe im wrong.  I think all of us knew we were risking our money in some way by depositing for many reasons.  Not ever thinking we would go to jail or get caught up but I think everyone in the back of their head thought something could happen and I may never see this money again.  We all knew it was illegal in a certain way and we were risking our money.

Pretty sure online gambling is gambling and placing a wager is placing a wager. At least in North Carolina, Georgia, and several other states I've lived in in the Southeast.

I will admit that until tonight, I did not realize there was no overarching federal statute that banned online gambling, but there are definitely states that have very standard laws that ban it. And state law is just as real as federal law, just obviously not as universally applicable.

This as well. However, individual players can still be fined. And individual players can also be jailed for tax evasion (but that's another story).

I didn't lose anything in this sting, likely make 2-3 times more than you a year, and still think you look better with a dick in your mouth.

It really doesnt matter guys. The feds imo took over a website & their money. taking over the website I think was legal but I do think the feds taking the MONEY was illegal on the usa gov part. hypocrites imo.

lol you honestly buy into the whole the feds stole the money story??? Feds probably seized the domain like they have done to other sites but BetEd saw the opportunity and just ran with the money, blaming their stealing on the feds.
