Chickens live a full and proud life so that humans are able to enjoy their nutritious flavorful meat.
Elephants sadly are not nearly as fortunate. They're gunned to the ground, sliced and beheaded from the forehead down and left to rot in the open - all right in front of their newborns. Proud moment knowing that 50-60 years of your life have been eliminated so that Asians and bible smashers can have a lovely centerpiece for their living rooms.

you have absolutely no idea what atrocities occur in factory farms. It's an animal holocaust of the highest order.
come down from your perch of the righteous defense of the majestic beast and measure your words...

1. Killing any animal for material items that are simply not needed (i.e. fur, ivory, skin) should be illegal.
2. Stories like this deserve the death penalty.
3. I'm with the8ofcups again in his previous post.
4. The way we treat chickens and cows in this country is unforgivable. I understand eating them, but killing them and treating them in an inhumane manner is simply wrong.
5. If there is a Hell, these poachers, and people like them, will be there.
Elephants are known to recognize the bones of other elephants and seem to show sadness when they discover them. I don't know if an elephant has more of a right to live than a chicken. Does a dog have more of a right to live than a mouse? I would say yes, but that's just me. By "right to live", I mean that we should value a dog's life, but if you don't value a rodent's life, I would consider that normal and just. Let's keep it in perspective... it's just a mouse. So yes... we should value elephants more.
I think sooner or later God is just going to end us after seeing the evil that we do every day. He's just gonna get tired of it all and snuff us out. JMO.

Relax Scally, I'm not questioining the horrific slaughter of those animals. It is without question the most horrific site I've ever witnessed. (and I have seen cows and pigs butchered) Fact is is that it really had an effect on me when I was younger - just learned to accept it and focus on other needless slaughter that actually can be eliminated or reduced. I would highly recommend that line of thought sir. There is NOTHING you can do so live with it and channel your energy toward some animals that can use your help.
I've seen a lot of bad things beyond your imagination happening to protected animals both below and above the surface. You've got some big boy speed type on but I wonder how much time you've spent in one level dirt road airports.

Scalabrine watched a couple youtube videos on animals being slaughtered and he thinks he knows it all.
First off, no one gives a garbage what occurs on farms where animals are being processed for human consumption. Chickens just like cattle and fish are being bred for one reason, Human Survival. Elephants are not being bred for food consumption.
Scalabrine comparing a baby elephant to a freaking baby chicken. Unreal.
You're either high on mushrooms and LSD or locked up in solitary confinement if you want to take on this post.
Well said slovak.

Human survival he says....
As though humans will be on the fringe of extinction if we don't eat animal flesh....
Wow...
It's 2013 and he lives in the richest nation in the history of the world and he just typed that...
You'd think he thinks he's living in on the Siberian Tundra in the 1600's....
Ya can't make it up...

Humans are meat eaters by nature, if you want to eat celery and cucumbers for the rest of your life, then more power to you, but don't preach your opinions on what people should be eating to the masses who know what by nature they were created to consume and where they are at on the food chain.
There are literally dozens of peer reviewed studies and videos you could easily find on the wed which would contradict your first sentence whole heartedly.
When the hell did you become lord and master dictating the dietary needs of mankind?

Correction, almost ALL OF US are going to hell for the animal holocaust that occurs every day in this country and world.
These poachers are profiteers of death, treating other species as a commodity.
Corporations that run factory farms are no different and anyone who has ever eaten meat by choice, including myself, undeniably has supported or supports the proliferation and continual functioning of that industry.

Comparitively speaking, that would put ancient Egyptians, Romans, Greeks, Mayans, Incas, British, Dutch, Spaniards, Mexicans and French in eternal hell.....
I've left out a few dozen.

So now an animal has to be endangered to consider whether it should consumed.
Interesting argument...that has absolutely no bearing in the conversation.
Just stating a fact thats all. Its good thing you hide behind a keyboard because all this stuff you bash others for I can almost guarantee goes on in your life but you try to act above all others on here, Like I said you lack sense but are smart. Therefore you can come up with these well written arguments for whatever but you dont have enough sense to understand situations.

I think the scalabrine guy has the covers "know it all" reputation that draws nothing but heat to his corner. But he has a very good point in this particular case. It's really nothing more than ... speciesism ... as scalabrine describes it. Now if the discussion went to "save the elephants from extinction" instead of it's current format, I'd still say it's still speciesism ... however ... I'd simply admit that I'm a hypocrite and I'm a "speciesism guy" if it meant protecting whatever species from imminent extinction. So to sum it up, scalabrine is correct, I'm a hypocrite, I eat chicken and I like elephants.

Animals have been raised for human consumption forever. That's never going to change. As humans, most can rationalize this.
However, when you're dealing with an endangered animal or one nearing extinction (that isn't tasty), it's harder to deal with. Many ask, "why?" Well, for the ones who are harvesting their ivory, they know why.
It all depends on your point of view. Go try and rationalize the beef industry to a Hindu.

It's sad that man hunts elephants for commerce reasons, but it is reality.
To some, it's sad that humans eat animals for existence. I say wake up, it happens because of what we are. PERIOD
What is more sad is that some of you seem to think that preserving some species is a worthy cause for your attention while the entire world economy is dissintagrating before your own eyes.
Those that are criticizing the actions of others, will be relishing a nice elephant steak very soon. This house of cards is about to crumble, and yes I mean very soon. You will only wish you had a gun and an animal to shoot... and you will not care if that animal is on some endangered list or not, because you know that you are on that list.

At least someone has the stones to admit their hypocrisy on this issue. It's pretty refreshing...

Scal doesn't know a gawd damn thing. He chooses a ridiculous one dimentional argument and stays the course until everything becomes completely absurd, distorted and beyond logic and reason. This is the case once again.

SportsFan... First off, I agree with what you said. Somewhat.
If your speculation about the future is correct, I won't care if the animal is endangered. This is your part that I agree with. However, I won't be poaching elephants for ivory, and I'll still think it is an unforgivable and monsterous crime to do so.
Also (and I'm not telling you anything you don't know), we're not talking about starving people hunting for food.
Economic doomsday predictions are running rampant nowadays. I hope somehow this country rebounds.

Sportfan's a good dude but the post is confusing. Protected animals (especially elephants) are close to the most highly guarded mammals on the planet for good reason.
What is happening to them is an outrage. The British would be the first to admit that the world is still trying to restablish Africa's most intelligent/important prized million year old species.
Let's compare them to dolphins being hooked to the brink for a set of teeth on the Asian market. How would that work out for yáll?
There are serious consequences when certain creatures are eliminated by human thirst for spare parts. Not following any thought process on the matter here.
