1988?
If ignorance was a virtue, you appear headed for sainthood.
All you need to ask yourself if Paterno is a true peice of shit, is would he have done the minimum if he heard his kid or grandchildren were being buttfucked by the linebackers coach?

Also were there any lives that he changed that didn't play football for him?
What are you, in seventh grade? What the hell do you use for brains? The shit that's in your diapers?
The endowments given to the university during Paterno's tenure combined with the amount of revuene generated by the athletic department since the late 1960s created a modern university that raised the education bar at what was a "cow college." This in turn changed the life of every student who graduated from Penn State or attended a class there. The money also built major research facilities which created untold change in many different areas.

I have not once seen any of the Paterno haters say the parents of these kids had any responsibility in what happened. These moms and dads didn't see some kind of change in their sons? They sent their kids off with Sandusky despite rumors and allegations that were circulating? One set of parents didn't press charges when they knew. What is that all about? And what kind of parenting results in the kind of repeated abuse that has been alleged. Any kid of mine would know how to act in that kind of situation. He'd also have the courage to tell me about it.
I suspect a lot of the hate directed at Paterno in this forum stems from deep-seated, yet shallow-minded college rivalries and has little to do with the facts of the case.

I grew up idiolizing Joe Pa and Penn St as my dad played there when Joe was an asst coach. I played tennis at Utah State and after a match with BYU, I took off all my sweaty clothes and put on a PSU football shirt before we went to a Provo restaurant to eat. The manager of the restaurant saw my shirt and came over to tell me that the whole restaurant was Joe Paterno and PSU fans. He told me the story of Joe and Lavell Edwards eating dinner at that restaurant the night before they played each other back in 1992. A game I fondly remembering attending with my pops. Their bill came to thirty something dollars and both coaches reached for the check. Lavell said he wanted to pick it up and leave a generous tip becauce he knew the girl and knew she was saving to go on a mormon mission. The manager of the restaurant told me that Joe grabbed the check and left a thousand dollar tip on the thirty dollar meal. Not surprsing after the millions he donated to the University.
A great tradedy occured at Penn State caused by Jerry Sandusky, and I wish that Joe would have done more, but at this time I want to remember Joe Pa for the countless contributions he made on the field and the bigger ones he made off the field. RIP JOEPA
Good Story....but only paritally true. LaVelle took Paterno to lunch and introduced him to his favorite waitress, who had sent a couple sons on missions and was saving for another to go. LaValle explained a little more at lunch how the missionary program works and that familes work to save for their sons and daughters. Joe was indeed impressed and left a $100 tip for the waitress!
