I think "be easy" is one of the few that understands where I am coming from but I asked for honest opinions and Im sure that is what I got.
Im not a perfect man but I want to do right by my kids because they are my world.
Good luck and thanks again.
no problem, my family is still very much intact and even though some of us are far away by distance, we're all still very close. If there's one thing i would model my parenting after how my parents ran things, it would be to let my kids learn their own lessons. Some things must be taught, because just being instructed isn't enough. I learned some very hard lessons, on my own, with them in my corner, and i'm a better person because of it. Your daughters will thank you when they're grown
btw, i drank plenty when i was young, tried all the drugs too (thankfully when i was young and could afford learning experiences, not like most that are sent out on their own for the first time at 19+ when shipped away to university). Given the opportunity to make the choice for myself and all at a young age, i got it out my system early and am not much a drinker at all these days. my mom took a lot of heat from other family members and friends who were raising kids my age or slightly younger, and she didn't fold, and is not one to take pleasure of others pains, but those who were critical of how she raised us and the open approach to drugs/alcohol, all got sandbagged with all kinds of problems from their kids when they got a little older (and still to this day, shitty relationships inter-family, no direction, problems with drugs/alcohol, therapy, problems with the justice system,,,,,not gonna elaborate any more because it's kinda sad

while i do think writing a page out of the dictionary for cursing is a little harsh i would agree that bad language coming from a child looks bad so something has to be done.
as far as the drinking goes... its not socially exceptable here in american so thats why your getting bad responses to it. Its not illegal and its not like your saying you force your daughter to drink. i think you will find that as my generation of people (im 25) start having kids, parenting will be like you do as far as alcohol goes.

I know the page writing is harsh but thats why I did it. So far only one of my girls has had to write one page.
That rule cut out all the cursing and yes I had to write a page once for breaking my own rule.

I think you are sick if you are the one that first introduced her to beer.
If she had some beer with a friend or something then I dont think you should be crucified for what you did.
If the girl wants a beer the girl will have a beer. If its not with you it will be at her friends sisters house. The problem here is that a 15yr old girl WANTS to drink.

I live in Amish country USA. When Amish kids turn 16, they are allowed to participate in 'Rumspringa' which means they leave the rule of the church and experience 'the rest of the world's way of life', before deciding if they wish to join the Amish church/way of life or pass on it and live outside the church. These kids go nuts and experiment with everything, including heavy drinking,,,,they've been doing it a long time and it works for them, and there's little problems with alcoholism in the amish community. The Amish are a great point of reference to compare reality vs. 21st century popular culture group think. To each his own, but i wouldn't be surprised nor deem it problematic if i had a 15 yr old daughter that wanted to experiment with alcohol,,,,i wouldn't encourage it but i'd prefer her do it under my roof then out god knows where

I am astonished at how misinformed people are here. It is not illegal for a 15 year old to have a beer in their own house when their legal guardian gives it to them. I am not saying I would allow this but it is not illegal and people saying contact the authorities are hilarious.
The problem arises when they start buying them beer and allowing others, who are not their children, to drink in their home. IF the child is confined to the house and it is only their child that is oding it then there is nothing the police can do, unless there is a specific law for that state saying otherwise. Also the poster didnt say he was allowing her to get smashed.
A lot of European cultures have the drinking age at 16 and it is not unusual for children as young as 12 to drink wine with dinner in Italy.

I would say you're a hypocrite if you let her drink but not smoke, because then your whole "curiousity killed the cat" M.O goes out the window. And, please... spare me the whole "smoking kills" spin on things.

But have a lot of house rules. One of my big ones is no cursing in the house. For every curse word they use they have to write one page of the dictionary with definitions.
But I will allow my 15 yr old to have a beer at home (nowhere else) I have always felt "curiosity killed the cat" If I take away the curiosity about drinking hopefully it wont become an issue as they get older. And most of the time if I offer her a drink she says no.
Anyways someone called me a hypocrite for allowing my daughter to have a drink but not letting her curse. Do you think I am.
Looking for honest opinions I have asked my wife but she has my side all the time.
