I think comparing the USA to the Roman Empire is inaccurate. I love my country but the Roman Empire stood for 1000 years. We have only been around 240 years of which only about 70 saw us as significant and relevant.
The whole melting pot everyone come here for a better life was a noble experiment which has failed pretty quickly due to ethnic groups seeing themselves as Americans second if at all. Add to that a corrupt political class which has pushed corrosive social and economic policies in order to keep themselves in power and you get the mess we're in now.

Rome still stands for the church. it is still the seat of power of the largest following of any church.
the empire however flourished because of technology. it had the ability to use a hydro hammer to make steel in greater quanity and better quality than its neibors. It also achieved a pinnacle in transportation engineer it built roads. its ability to conquer adopt the religion and rule is unprecedented.
America adopted Rome system of governance.
with temperance on the position of Caesar. our giants built rail roads steel buildings greater than rome but here is a huge difference we have the means to destroy this world. we have a way to deploy an electron bomb to implode earth. rome did not possess even a a or h bomb.
with the current weapon you only need one. but cheer up China and Russia have supposedly developed this class of planet killer as well. Our protocols state the federal government stands or earth doesn't.
