What's amazing is that the kids make $91 million per day and the tax payer has to pay part of their employees wages.

Mixed impact of raising minimum wage.  Some businesses fare worst.  Those that prosper are able to become more efficient or increase revenue to offset higher costs.  Still,  burdening only low-wage industries seem unfair.  A better way is for government to give more tax credits (free money) so that more poor people can benefit instead of just workers.

In 2008, Walmart agreed to pay at least $352 million to settle lawsuits claiming that it forced employees to work off the clock. This was the largest of several settlements, over several years, in several states.

By 2005, 60% of Walmarts merchandise was imported. 

Walmart is the single largest importer of foreign goods in the United States and their biggest trading partner is China. 

Walmart paid millions of dollars in bribes to local officials in Mexico to expedite permits for construction and operation of it's many stores in that country. 

Walmart is an employee of Charoen Pokphand Foods. CPF operates fishing boats manned with slaves. The working conditions on these boats include 20 hour work days, forced drug use, starvation and executions. 

In 2000, meat cutters in Texas voted to unionize. Walmart subsequently eliminated in house meat cutting. 

There was one successful unionization of a Walmart store in Quebec in 2004. Walmart closed the store 5 months later.

Animal abuses to fund our cheap food.

Same goes for everything...to gain an advantage usually there is a counterparty or counter effect which absorbs the real cost of that advantage.

Translation...to get our cheap stuff someone or some thing is suffering as a cost for that price.

Walmart uses suppliers as referenced above, as to many large corps..all that is done to maintain exec compensation and stock prices...

If Walmart were to pay higher wages or not hammer suppliers and force them to compromise then their profits would be reduced and their exec compensation would be reduced, share prices and multiples would be reduced.

they cooked up this hare-brained plan up north in Alberta to raise the wage to $15.00 an hour by 2018-it sure bought votes, but the people it is intended to benefit will likely get screwed with higher prices/rent etc..surprised socialism is still popular in this day and age.

How will raising minimum wage a few dollars lead to higher rent?

Yes. Sad the way the meat industry is.  That's bad period.  Not sure Walmart is the only one that uses Purdue or that they are the worst. 
Folks gotta eat and you gotta raise and kill animals to eat. So it is open to a lot of abuse. No doubt. 
Don't think forcing them to reduce profits and execs being forced to reduce compensation would help this at all.  It may actually make it worse. Because people will always try to cut corners,etc. to get profits back up.  Not just Walmart; human nature for any company to do this.  So, sure some oversight is needed in some places. 
It is the same reason we used to have child labor and China and other places still do have it.  Human nature is a tough thing sometimes. 
Walmart does have an obligation to do right more so. Because the Liberals are certainly going to scrutinize them more because they are seen as the epitome of bad business to the Left at the moment.

Brother-in-law is pilot for WestJet there.  His brothers all in oil fields. That area is gorgeous and skiing is great.  But the prices have shot way up because of that industry as well. So, I would imagine raising minimum wage could have effect on the lower end folks as well.

Are any of you against owning your own business such as AirBnb, Lyft, or Uber?

Doing this allows the individual to own their own business, set their own hours, and not have to answer to a corporate fukk of a boss.
