Why ?  How would you know how you turned out if He couldn't prove it to you ? Your life is being filmed right now ! What you do, what to say, what you think, is being recorded.

Just as our Father in heaven sent children into the world, a father on earth raises his children and sends them out into the world hoping they will not get into trouble, worries about them. Yet Loves them.   

God didn't create war, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption. God gave us instruction. The Ten Commandments of LOVE. To love they neighbor, as thyself.  Imagine if everyone had love and peace in their heart ?

 Greed, selfishness, pride, anger, jealousy, hatred, has done all this to the world.

I think the basic idea of religion has been severely manipulated over the years into something it was never intended to be.

Add to it that the OP actually admits to believing in a Deity or Creator of some sort. Don is missing the point that the OP has an issue with religion, not necessarily a Deity. 

I would argue that the best post in this thread is made by Golden Goose in post 5. However, if one makes the argument that a God/Deity/Creator exists, the burden is on that person to prove their argument. 

I'm always amazed that people are willing to accept a belief in a Deity on faith, yet require evidence as proof for almost every other aspect of life. 

GimmeMoneyNow also makes an excellent post in #7. It's truly disappointing that there are people incapable of treating others well without a religious doctrine to abide by. It's really not difficult to treat others as you would want to be treated. People don't need a 2000 year old book that can be vague, misinterpreted, and contradictory to lead a good life.

First you need to show some evidence that there is a god...all the gods throughout history and not evidence for one...

The ten commandments of love  first three all about me me me, nothing about do not rape or own slaves, but your bible condones those things 

please show me how your god has shown anyone love...

Imagine no religion dividing people

Religion is about control period.

Some people are susceptible to being controlled and some gain from the structure of religious organization. For some it gives purpose and direction and it is necessary and helpful for some...notice I am saying some quite often.

Without control religion does not exist, without the fear of consequence and eternal pain/reward I dont think people would make the decision to follow religious organizations.

For me there are some principals that are helpful and I dont fault others from utilizing religious structure and valuing it as they do. I dont need that guilt based structure so I try and take principals that are taught and be a decent person to others, try and work hard and have a positive attitude.

I dont think people need religion to find happiness in life, but for some they need to be told what to do and how in order to find what they are looking for. 

But I also do not care for fanatics in any religion, any extreme behavior is usually not good for the person or those around them..

The first 3 commandments are about loving your creator. Wouldn't you want your children to love you ?


God has shown you love by blessing by giving you a loving Mother and Father, if they know Him. If fact you were conceived by the love of your parents. Do you not love your parents ?

I don't need to tell my kids to love me or worship me, and I certainly don't threaten them with something if they don't...

And if I wasn't given a "loving Mother and Father"? Are you saying everyone who is born is? All births come from love? Try again...

I never met my biological father and my mother is addicted to drugs and has been out of my life since I was 10 years old. I guess "god" doesn't love me.

religion all about life but concentrates more on eternity.
It tries to explain good and evil in ways that anyone could comprehend. christianity addresses the generations of gods clearer than any other. how the son will one day be the father after a wedding.
do i believe a snake inticed a woman to eat an apple and we are damned now not really. because god could kill off adam eve and just reform man take a rib and remove the forbidden tree.
however i believe in realtivity, to explain string theory of holographic design theorized by hawkins, or the ability of time travel or multiple diminsioned universes with in our own again would take books miles high.

simplistic reality something is made physical by a plan and labor.
and i have yet to find a being of human character to make a universe.
so religion defines this character.
buddists, priests, clerics rabbis shamans one of the common theme is they all pray for insight. i dont believe all these men of god are just telling me a story where they come from such unique back grounds
my belief of the universal truth  is we are a journey to the light or the darkness earth is middle of the road and such both good and evil is found here.

anyone have the notion that when the last person on earth believes in jesus that jesus will finally come rescue???

say for instance there is 10,000,000,000 people and only one of em believes in jesus?

I do not discriminate.  I hate all religion.  I was raised Methodist, and carted of to church or Sunday School because my parents thought it was the right thing to do.  Let me correct that... they did it because that is what would please their parents.  Endless cycle.  neither of my parent could recite a single verse from the bible, and they could not care less.

I am not a historian, but I do feel that I have a pretty good grasp on a few things in our history.  As I see it, religion is the basis for almost all wars, and almost all (ignorant) hatred that exists in the world today.  "My religion is superior to yours, so therefor I don't like you, or I want you to change, or maybe I just want to kill you".

The world would be a much better place without any religion.  I do appreciate the good that comes from some or most of the organized churches.  Plenty of work to do good, and help others.  But if you put that all in balance with all of the needless suffering and killing and hatred that has happened throughout history because of religion, it is obvious to me that we would be much better off with none of it.

I don't claim to be a historian, but as I see it religion was originally concocted as a tool to control and manage the masses of the world by leaders (dictators).  That is the true origins of all religion, despite how you may have been brainwashed to thing it is something more benevolent.

Although I do not recognize any form of organized religion, I do believe we do have our creator - a deity.  I guess you can call him God.  That makes me not an atheist, but I think the correct term is agnostic.

I was always a science and math guy from a young age.  About the age I figured out that there was no Santa Clause, I also concluded that organized religion was a farce.  I have never changed that conclusion in all my years.  When I was younger in my teens and 20's, I believed in the evolution theory.  I have since tossed that.  I simply find the whole theory to be far too inconceivable to be given any worthy credit.  I could be wrong but that is what I think.  Some random events allowed a few carbon elements to collide with others and that formed life?  And that life then evolved to humans that can do almost anything we want, including thought and analysis and form societies?  That is ridiculous to me - just as ridiculous as a bunch of stories about our creation, and God sees over things and decides what is good or bad.

So I would like to hear a few opinions about religion from you... let's keep it civil.

The most hilarious thing in all this is, the atheists are criticizing the morality of Theists, ie, causing wars, killing others, ie ISIS...

If God doesnt exist, by what standard do you judge the actions of these Theists?

IF an objective standard of morality doesnt exist, then your opinions on morality are nothing more than subjective opinions. Like some people prefer blondes over brunettes....Thats all it is....just subjective opinions...which really dont mean anything.

The very fact you look at wars and claim they are wrong, is evidence that you all actually believe in an objective standard of morality. This actually confirms you all believe in God.

So you're telling me you have researched,studied and investigated Judaism, Islam and Hinduism/Buddhism before you came to the conclusion of being a Christian, Yeah sure you did, Dumb follower.

Because if you're a Christian who hasn't studied Islam/Judaism and the other two religions well then how can you say you decided Christianity was the correct religion? Just admit it you were born into it and did not have the mental fortitude to think outside of it's belief, Which brings me back to my original choice of words, You're a dumb follower.
