If you have 50 bucks, and you are on a $1 minimum bet table with 50X odds, you should bet 1 on the line and 49 behind.
That is what I meant above by betting the least you can on the pass line, and the most you can on the odds.
Oh,,, OK OK,, I got ya,, Your talking about the minimum amount as to your budget per "session". So in the the above example if instead of a $50 amount available to you per session your were going with $500, you would increase you initial wager to $10. You would back it with an odds bet of $490. Even though the table minimum is $1. Am I stating this correctly?

Yes - but there is no reason to come out. If you read that thread - I think in the first post I talk about "putting" the numbers - in other words just putting $5 under a $2,500 odds bet on any number you want.
Why mess around with the come out roll at all?
I dont like the come either, but it does pay you on the 7 like the pass, and placing numbers has a higher house hold versus odds on a come bet.

In other words....
There are 2 ways to bet any number, by "placing" a bet, or "putting" a bet. If you place, you are betting a number the tradititional way, and if you put you are betting a pass line bet with odds.
Lets look at betting the number 5. If you place a bet, you get paid 7-5.
Lets say you have 100 bucks you want to put on the 5. If you place it, you will get paid 140. If you put it at 10X odds, you would bet 5 on the pass line (by putting it on the 5) and 95 as odds. This way, you will get paid 147.50. It is the same exact bet, both bettting 100 on the 5, just a different way, but one pays more than the other.

The only way you do this strategy is if you can get 10X odds or better. If you are under that, you are better off coming ou.
Because of the 2/3/12 odds I imagine.
I hate playing the come bet, especially with a whippy table, which it is most of the time.
Craps is a total time hog, you can spend six hours at a table and not see a run which could help you beat the house, in either direction..That said, it is the only game I play when I hit the tables.
It would be interesting to have about 20 Covers guys on a craps table, with rickster being on the stick.

I'm kinda high right now but I dont think that would fly. With a $5 put bet max odds would be $50 at 10x. No?

stay away from the middle of the board, one time bets and the field, small house edge everywhere else, find a 5 dollar table with good atmosphere (players and dealers) and have fun with it. start with a few bets so you can keep track on what's out there and what needs to be paid. keep it simple and repeat the same bets to learn.
here's what i do, 5 bucks on the pass, get the point, 25 behind the pass (max 5x), place one unit each on the non-point 5,6,8,9 and 5 on the come, next roll, place 25 odds on the come bet, bring down the place bet and the profit if it was a 5,6,8,9. if things are going good i'll stick another come bet out there and place the 25 odds behind that one too, DO NOT STICK EXTRA UNITS ON THE PASS OR COME IF YOU CANNOT AFFORD THE MAX ODDS, i hate seeing people play 10 on the line and 20 behind it, it reaaally bothers me.

But even if it was 10X, you would bet 10 below 90, which would pay 145 for the same bet that would pay 140 if you placed it.
Risk 100 on the number 5, one way pays 145, one way pays 140 - the only difference is you say "put" instead of "place".
Another one I see people do is walk up to the table and "place the point" You should place your bet on the pass line(half your chip on the pass line, half behind the line) and it pays better. Thats one thing that bothered me about the dealers and stickmen when I first started playing, I was tipping like mad and they still wont tell you when you're not making the right bet.

Any reason or strategy if you have been hitting numbers to throw a few dollars on 7 one-time roll at 4/1 or sometimes 5/1? Hedge a few dollars off of your original passline bet? Also, doing this the first roll after the point is made just in case you save yourself from losing everything if the first roll after the come out is a 7. I'm not an expert craps player but just wondering what any of you thought.

I have read SEVERAL books on craps.... Van is right. The house is the lowest when you play the pass line with max odds / come line with max odds. It's always fun to throw a 5 on the 'YO' once in awhile too.

The key to craps is getting the highest odds you can. Dont bother playing if it is "3, 4, or 5" times odds.
Bet the smallest you can on the pass line, and the most you can on the odds.
This is all anyone needs to know about craps... and, even then, you are an underdog...
On a side note, would you push all in at the poker table if you were a 49% dog? People play craps for two reasons: 1)They enjoy the excitement of the game, or 2)They are bad at math.

True...just curious. But as you said later...you play the come when the max odds are in your favor.
In the 3/4/5 max tables (which I see the most), I tend to play the pass for max odds, then take 2 come bets with max odds knowing it isn't the greatest but I love the action...which is the only reason anyone would enter a casino.

I always love when there is a Craps discussion on the board.
The first thing I think goes with out saying get rated. Whatever your bankroll... The more you are betting the bigger the comps. When the economy soured I noticed a lot more comps coming in the mail middle to end of 2008 from numerous casinos. I was not even actively playing at that time but had been rated on previous trips. I played golf for "free" for about 9 months Two free rounds of golf a month with no restrictions, and never set foot in there casino. The bean counter finally caught on and I am still offered it during weekdays, but not weekends which is usually when I had time to play. The point is if you are playing get rated to take advantage of the services they will offer you on future trips.. rooms, meals, player dollars, etc.
Van points out the house always has the advantage on any bet offered and over a period of time they will take it from you.
The way I play is trying to manage my money on the table.. For simplicity using the table minimum of $10 I would play this way.
Place $10 on pass line...When the point is established maximize odds on that bet whether being offered ($50) 5X,($100)10 X or whatever.
Then I play the inside numbers... which are 5,6,8,9. If one of those numbers is the point just play the other 3. Using table minimum it will cost a maximum of $44 to play those numbers $10 on 5, $12 on 6 , $12 on 8, and $10 on 9.
I want to recoup most of my original money invested on those inside numbers before I press wagers. If you hit 3 inside numbers before the 7 you will have recouped $42. Every number after that I will press my wagers as the numbers are hit, Depending on how agressive you want to be that could be going up 1 unit to $15 on 5 and 9 t or $18 on 6 and 8 to a pull press to $20 on 5 and 9 and $24 on 6 and 8.
Now you still have your entire pass line and odds at risk until they make a point. But if you can get through a roll of making 3 numbers and a point..You will have regained the money you originally invested and can be aggressive pressing those numbers as the numbers are called.
You are always vulnerable to a short roller...So that money you put out can all be gone without making a single number. I would suggest a minimum bankroll of 1K with this strategy. Although the odds never change on the dice...Tables tend to run on cold and hot streaks so you will need a sizeable bankroll to hang around.
Good luck

Play 1 or more units on the pass line. Once the point is established, let's say a 6, I take odds and/or twice the unit bet on the pass line and place the same unit bet on the come line. If another non pass line number comes up, say a 9, the boxman will move my come bet to that number. I'll then take max odds on that 9. I now go back to the come line and place a unit bet. If another number comes up like a 8, I'll then take max odds on that 8. I now have an 8 working, a 9 working and the point of 6 working... all with odds. If the shooter starts hitting your numbers, I'll go right back and establish another number by placing a come bet and buying max odds if it hits a playable number. Also, you really only want 2 numbers along with your pass line bet. You can paint the board, but invariably you'll get nailed.
It's not as confusing as it sounds, and it's the best way to maximize your odds and make money. If you're a Don't player, you utilize the same method only on the Don't Pass, Don't Come and the numbers. If you're playing Don't, never celebrate when you win. You'll get your ass kicked.

Time Hog? I beg to differ. I was at the MGM Grand and this drunk novice held the dice for an hour and a half. I ended up walking out of there with $83K. I bought my Porsche with it.

Crus take this advice from a life long craps player: Dont learn how to play.
with due respect to vanzack, this is probably the best post in the thread. i don't go to casinos much anymore but craps has ruined all other casino games for me. i find everything else boring because craps is so much fun. when the table is hot, there's no better game. but things can go south quickly.
