So I recently starting getting into it. Been playing it with a friend who has been a regular at it for a long time.
Here is how he plays...Pass line, (backs it up to max 3x 4x whatever)...and plays the outside...4, 5, 9,10...assuming none of these are the point. He buys the 4 and 10...
what do you guys think of this??? Still learning this game and looking to maximize my odds. I know if a roll gets going, he can really rake in, as he pushes the numbers if it gets hot...

Pass line with max odds is the best bet in the casino.
I usually play pass line with the 6 & 8 and then either the 4 or 10 depending on what the point is.
Have had days I make $1000-1500 and other days I will lose $500-700. Craps tables are just so unpredictable. The dice goes your way for a little and then people just start throwing 7s left and right.

If the shooter hits the 6 or 8 two times I will usually press the 6 and 8 on the 2nd hit. Then depending on how I feel about the shooter I will keep pressing on every 2nd hit after pressing or take my bets down on the 6 and 8.
If I have a 4/10 and the shooter hits one of them I will press it all the way and move it to the 5 or 9 depending on the point and what the shooter has been rolling.
Craps is a fun game. Always somethign going on.

I tend to play a ton while at any casino except Indian casinos in Ok dont have them. I get in easy and watch the table. Playing strictly the 6 and 8. If I hit twice and start to press my bet. This way you can kinad hang around without getting killed and usually show a small profit. If the table gets hot I play the pass line with max odds. If the shooter is throwing tons of numbers I will move to all of the inside numbers (5,6,8,9) Never playing the 4 or 10. Matter of fact if the point is 4 or 10 I will only play 2x behind. (Always have to play some odds) This game can be easy come easy go. If the table gets hot makes a run then goes cold start over. It can be extremely streaky.

I play the inside numbers...6,8,5 and 9. I'll occasionally buy the 4 or 10, but rarely. If the point is a 6 or 8, I hammer the odds on my pass line bet. If it's a 5 or 9, I go a little lighter on the odds bet.
Yeah, yeah...it's the best bet in the house, and yeah, I might be cheating myself...blah, blah, blah....however, bankroll and money management have to be considered. Sure, you can push 100x odds all the way, but when that 7 hits, that money is gone.
SEVEN OUT!!

The key to craps is getting the highest odds you can. Dont bother playing if it is "3, 4, or 5" times odds.
Bet the smallest you can on the pass line, and the most you can on the odds.
Van,,,,Why should you bet the smallest amount possible on the original bet? I agree with absolutley everything else you state. If you are playing anything but pass/dont pass or come/dont come you are playing wrong,,,, flat out no exceptions.
I just cant figure out what I'm missing by the low starting wager strategy.

General idea of craps: If you are risking say $50 per "session", then you should play $10 on the pass and take the maximum you can backing it up with $40 odds once the point has been established if they offer 4x or better. If they only give you 3x odds, then you should start out with $12 on the pass and $36 on the back. This is usually what is meant when saying to start with the smallest amount and back up with the max odds.

was playing at the Hilton in Vegas last weekend....we would back it up to the max (I think we were) based on the point...so say we had 20...at times we had 80.
IM still new to this and I dont totally understand the %'s you put up Van

The percentages are the "house hold". The higher the percentage, the more the house keeps of your money based on longterm expected value. Basically like vig in sportsbetting - if you bet the passline, you are paying less vig than if you bet numbers.
So a couple of key points:
1. Odds have 0% house hold - the best bet in the whole casino.
2. You want to bet the bets that have the lowest percentages. The higher the percentage, the more you will llose.
3. Stay away from craps other than to have fun.

Exactly - and to add....
If you have 50 bucks, and you are on a $1 minimum bet table with 50X odds, you should bet 1 on the line and 49 behind.
That is what I meant above by betting the least you can on the pass line, and the most you can on the odds.

As stated above you don't get paid out in the true odds. The pass line pays out even money. You bet 10 dollars on the pass line you win ten dollars. But the odds "behind the pass" line pays out the true odds of what ever the point is.
For example, if you put 10 dollars down on the pass line before the come out roll (the one setting the point) and the come out roll makes the 6 the point. This makes it the true odds (6 to 5) and the payout odds 6 to 5 as well (verse 7 to 6 payout when you place the 6). So putting 10 dollars on the odds would pay you back $12.
You would be surprised how many people I see lay the same amount of money down on the pass line and the odds. I see guys put $25 on the pass and 25 on odds on a $10 craps dollar table. It is dumbfounding.

I would assume the 500 odds worked with the come bet, too?
Yes - but there is no reason to come out. If you read that thread - I think in the first post I talk about "putting" the numbers - in other words just putting $5 under a $2,500 odds bet on any number you want.
Why mess around with the come out roll at all?
