I usually play three numbers... The Six & Eight I always have covered, and the house take is minimal on place bet as VAN pointed out.. The turnover is tremendous on a hot roller.. I call these the "Power Numbers" of the game, because odds are they will come the most frequently (behind the 7)
Money management is so key in this game because it goes so fast and the different type of bets one can make. If you plan on taking 5x odds on a game that features a $5 min bet, and you're covering 3 numbers..... do the math. You have $90 out there on one roller.
Understand how much you plan on bringing to the table, and bet accordingly.

Went to Cripple Creek (Colorado) where its old Western type Casinos.
All them had 100X on the pass line. I nearly shit my pants. Ive played a handful of times since this initial thread started and understand it a lot more.
So everytime I put $1 on the pass and unfortunately for a small bankroll (not expecting to gamble much) I didnt back it up 100X...$100 was max...however you wanna call it....
Needless to say I saw more 7's than a slot machine...
my question now is, depending on the point, does it make more sense to up or down my 100x? Seems like 6 and 8 are much more of a common point, although its basically paying even money compared to 19/10 or 14/10 on the others?

I like to watch for awhile before buying in.Sometimes it seem like the same numbers are rolled over and over again. The other day at Delaware Park for example, the 8 and 9 were smoking hot at 1 table.I placed $60 on the 8 and $50 on the 9 with no pass line bet.Once the roll was over (25 minutes) they were both up to $300.I often stay away from the pass line only betting place bets and come bets. However, some days just when I buy in.... it changes. Some days there is no rhyme or reason to this game. You play it long enough... you see just about everything there is to see."OUT SEVEN LINE AWAY" The worst 4 words in the English language.

Now that I'm sitting here thinking of craps... craziest rolls I have EVER seen in the 30 years I've been playing... 5 straight "Yo's" (wasn't on it) 7 straight "hard ways" (on all of them) with 4 straight hard sixes. Some chick had the dice for about 52 minutes... never made her initial point but rolled 24-26? numbers. An idiot threw 1 die off the table 5 straight come-out rolls.(Yes, the boxman moved the dice to the next shooter.)

AHH DAM... I can't believe I forgot this story..... about 17-20? years ago,my father and I were at Harrahs A.C. There was 1 craps table that was roped off.I have never seen this in all my my years playing this game.I walked up to see what was going on when I noticed the 1 player at the table was playing with gray chips ($5000) and betting AGAINST HIMSELF!!! Don't Pass,Don't Come...I started to talk to 1 of my pit-boss friends who said this dude was a big-shot NY lawyer (forgot his name) who came down once a month with $500,000.At that point, this guy was down close to $400,000.By the next day he was only down about $11,000.That's some sick shit if you ask me.

If you want absolutely no house edge in craps-see if someone is betting the line & not placing their odds bet. Ask if they would place your chips behind their line bet & now you've got a bet with no house edge at all. The Casino has no edge on an odds bet-but the flip side is that the player also has no edge on an odds bet. In the LONG run-an odds bet is a zero sum-dead even game.
