Alright Covers...here it is. As some of you may know, I love to travel. I've posted about things from fishing in the Catskills to backpacking across Europe. Ive traveled across a good amount of Europe about 7 years ago and have done some decent traveling in my young age. I constantly battle with when and where I can travel, depending on my work, grad school and the like. Money also can be an issue like everyone knows, then it dawned on me...
I am going to attempt to travel somewhere in the US (possible canada if its close enough) every OTHER weekend for a bit. My trip will have me leaving early Saturday morning (5-7am), most likely via flight and coming back home (Westchester, NY) early Monday afternoon (2-3 pm) to make it home for work.
Here is where I need YOUR HELP....I want you guys to select the places I go!!! I say this because I see how much info everyone on here possesses, from the best buffalo sauce threads, to little tiny areas of another city. I will attempt to hit up some of the suggested parts of the city that is selected and comment back on what Ive seen. Sort of like a travel channel show, checking out some eateries, a sports game if possible, the good local bars, some sights and history etc, without a tv camera, just me semi blogging back here to tell you guys how it went, and as often as I can. Maybe even meet up with anyone from covers at a bar to have a drink and say thanks for the advice!
Here is another piece of this idea that I think will make it fun for covers....I would like it to be a city where there is some sort of sporting event that is taking place that weekend, whether it be a CBB game, an NFL game, NHL, whatever, that I can attend, and I will have those vote for who I should bet on. Will make it a fun thing to participate in, and whatever wins vote wise, I will bet on it.
Here are some of the things that I would like people to take into account when posting about where I should go.
1. A flight that is within about 3 hrs of NYC (only have Sat and Sun to go out), so probably anything West of the Colorado border is out.
2. Trying to do this as potentially cheap as possible, without being frugal. So Im not going to stay at some 5 star hotel, but not some dump as well.
3. Cities that have a wide variety of things to do, taking into account culture, local life (aka bars, fun things etc), sights/history of stuff.
4. Has a sports venue that weekend that I can attend and bet on.
I am taking this very seriously! I think there is a lot of great info on this site and this is a good way to put it to use. I may be doing some missions solo, and some with a buddy of mine, but either way its definitely something I want to do.
Here is the schedule I will be looking at
1. NOV 8-10th
2. Nov 22-24th (if flight arent too expensive with Thanksgiving)
3. Dec 6th-8th
4. Dec 13th-15th or the following Dec 20th-22nd, depending on flight prices.
Then ill kick back in during early January and go from there...but Id like to have 4 places in the books by seasons end.
So folks, this is where I need you to come in here, shout some places out, tell me why I should go there...once we can decide on a place for my first visit, then we can start a new thread that will give me suggestions for what to do, see and eat...
