I just called one of  the 'gold standard' of Cancer docs in our area ansd set up an appt for MON April 11th.. Mom is pleased with this so we can move forward.

To those who  have battled Cancer or had someone in their family battle it , my thoughts go out to you too... my dad passed from prostate, one grandma- lung, the other grandma-brain cancer ..

Prayers with your Mother and also yourself, since this can't be easy on you as well.

I think some around here recall what a mess I was when my Mother passed away a few years ago, and lets pray that doesn't happen.

We also have a meeting with her cardiologist on Friday to find out some things that it appears he missed

Mom told me how proud she of me taking the lead in regards to many of her affairs  and medical issues...she has never one to verbalize it much ..

If any of you need to get a will done, DO IT.. it makes everything smoother.. tommorrow is the Oncologist meeting.. I'll give an update .. thanks again to everyone ... Covers is a wonderful community of people

It's defintely a large tumor in that it's in a renal vein too. (hence some residual bleeding)...surgery is now the MAIN and really only option .. setting up an appointment with my Urologist who is a surgeon and with a Kidney Surgeon who he recommended .

im going to cut and paste some info for you.  the key is whether it has gone beyond the renal vein or not.  stage 3 vs 4.



Surgery — Surgery is curative in the majority of patients without metastatic RCC and is therefore the preferred treatment for patients with stages I, II, and III disease (table 1). Treatment can involve either a radical nephrectomy or a variety of renal-sparing approaches (partial nephrectomy or ablative techniques) in carefully selected patients, depending upon the extent of disease. Surgery may be carried out through a conventional approach or by laparoscopy. (See "Surgical management of localized renal cell carcinoma".)

In carefully selected patients who present with a resectable primary tumor and a concurrent single metastasis, surgical resection of the metastasis, in conjunction with radical nephrectomy, may be curative. (See "Role of surgery in patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma".)

you should be able to link the full article above.  it is written for doctors so the number of 50 cent words will be a bit overwhelming, nonetheless, this provides an overview of what is headed her way.


make sure the surgeons have done a lot of these and ask if the pathologists will be present to assess that the margins of the renal vein is clear of disease.

My urologist who is also a surgeon has 46 years of experience and the Kidley Oncologist has over 30 years so hopefully we /she will be in good hands..

dude I know what you are talking about there. My mom was in the hospital for 9 days and I was the only person with any kind of medical knowledge in my family. I had to pretty much stay there 14 hours a day and about 20 when I slept there at the hospital. My family relied on me to understand the doctor (who was French) and what was going on. Plus I wanted to be there for my mom, when she woke up. Hopefully the next period of time that this takes, will be easier on you than it was on me. Good luck and still praying for your mother.
