I need to do this as well. Momz & Pops said they simply got bored with it, and stopped.
Like your parents, I smoked for over 32 years before quit it cold turkey. It was 4-15-'08 when i had the last puff. Please take my advise--Quit it, smoking will hurt!! Good luck!

you start off young in high school or college out drinking one night and you have a few cigs and they feel great when drunk. That slowly escalates and you get hooked. Tobacco addiction is a very tough one to break. I have been dipping for 10 years. Quit for 6 months last year cold turkey and got suckered back in during baseball season by some bad influences( brother/best friend). Now I have decided to quit again. 5 days clean so far and I think I'm going to make it this time. Been puffing a cigar a day to help with the withdrawal symptoms and also have been taking some clonapen to help as well. Once you get past two weeks you're home free.
Keep trying to quit, Messier. You can do it and this is from a ex-smoker who had over 32 years of that nasty habbit. Good luck!

back in the days you would see it everywhere...TV, movies, etc..
the industry portrayed it to be cool...thus brainwashing the masses.
humans learn by imitating what we see.
In the late 60s and early 70s, warning labels were finally put on cigarettes. Therefore, I will give EVERYONE a pass, as it was considered cool to smoke, and people were unaware of the hazards. But after 1980, anyone who smokes on a consistent basis gets no sympathy from me.
Statistics show that heavy smokers likely did not make it past high school and are not too bright. I think college is overrated, but MOST of the HEAVY smokers I encounter are simpletons, and their ability for rational analysis is severely limited.

How much are cigarettes? I just heard in NYC they hit $11 a pack!
Thats $330 a month for a pack-a-day smoker, $660 if you smoke 2 packs a day, like my co-worked I just talked about. He brings home about $400 a week from his job. So lets assume the low end and say he spends $400 a month on cigarettes. Thats 25% of his income just on that
NYC is 12-13$ it's crazy...but if you have some connects you can get cartons for $50 off the truck

Because its an addiction, just like herion is an addiction. Its just as difficult to stop ciggs, then it is herion. Ya, its terrible, we all know that. But, as you stated about your friend, people start young and then they are hooked. Not sure what you don't understand.
I was about write something similar. In all fairness, he might have missed health class that day.
