Everyone at Covers is independently wealthy from gambling, they don't worry about these little expenses.

I don't know how anyone with kids makes it.

Thats a pretty good list. Mines pretty close (rent and office almost equals my mortgage) and I don thave the kid stuff....a couple things not on your list that I have to pay and a couple i'm sure you do as well.....

my wife runs my office while i go on the road.  we live in south carolina so rent is ridiculous cheap.

Tell me about it, JWK. Wages aren't keeping up with the cost of living. The amounts may be different depending on where you live, but the story is the same.

The thing is, I'm not even sure there is anything I can trim off of my list except for maybe car and wife's credit card.

The biggest sucker move a man can make financially might be to finance a car

This makes me depressed when I think about this because i realize how much money i piss away

My wife and I's net income per month is about 6500 not including the 2 months we each get a third cheque.  That usually goes to pay for a vacation or a 1 off item like a tv, appliance, furniture etc.  We also both have our cars paid off but still allocate payments to a savings account each month so that we aren't burdened by car payments when we buy more expensive cars in the near future.  

Mortgage: 1350
Taxes:  275
Utilities: 200
Insurances: 250
Car pmts: 1000  
Gas:  250
Groceries: 500
Eating Out: 400
Alcohol/Bars:  300
Cable/Internet/Phones: 300  3825
Savings:  1000
Pissed Away/Misc:  1675

I should note that our net income is net of our pension plan contributions that are deducted from our pay cheques so I'm not ignoring future retirement income.

leafs, you seem squared away bro.  1000 for savings is sweet!!!  Not trying to call you out but $500 for groceries and $300 for alc/bars?  seems very low.  you also reminded me about taxes.  i'd say with taxes included i'm around 6k per month.

You actually got it pretty good- you are including business expenses while Leaf isn't.  The only thing we probably pay less than you in Cali is the electricity. 

Leaf actually has $2k socked away since the cars are paid for and that's not counting the savings he isn't allocating.

Probably part of that misc. includes more in those areas.  My wife does the grocery shopping and I know she aims for $100 a week (just me and her) but always complains about going over.  

Why are you paying taxes if you're renting?

yeah, i noticed that you had an "eating out" that was independent from "going out" (alcohol and bars).

I actually didn't start this thread to bitch.  The business expenses are real but should be separate in theory (you are an accountant?) and the taxes I brought up aren't property but income (self-employed)

Luckily I'm not married or have Kids .... That's too much of a budget for me       I don't think I'll have too much money to bet football if I have to pay all of those..

You got it pretty easy.  Rent here for a 2 bed apartment is about $1500 and a home mortgage will probably cost you about $2500 or more.

Your expenses look good- if you can lower the car payment you would be golden.  That's the killer but you have to reward yourself somehow.
