A friend of mine had a female boxer. It was more like a kangaroo. You really had to protect your balls around that thing. Every time I went to his house I felt like a hockey goalee blocking her off of me. She was a nice dog though but she also licked the air constantly. I mean like non-stop.

Miniature Australian Shepherd.  Very, very, loyal.  Playful but not too hyper.  Protective toward strangers and submissive towards us.  Weirdest damn thing though.  About 5 years ago, when he was 2, that Easter commercial for Kids R Us where the song is "Here comes Peter Cottontail" came on and he howled like crazy.  To this day, I can sing that song and make him howl.

Here's my sisters goofy ass dog singing the two and a half men theme song, the only thing that it sings for... the dog never howls except for when they play this song.

That's hilarious Spitfire.  That is almost exactly what my dog does.  He sits on his ass and howls with his nose straight up.  Poor dog has heard Peter Cottontail at least 500 times in the last 5 years.  Even the neighbors do it.

neo mastiff.  i don't know if i'll ever be able to get a different breed of dog after having one of these, very smart and overtly loyal(mine won't leave my side).  not for everyone, you have to give him room to roam, so if you don't have spacious property, i don't recommend. I hike him 20+ miles a week and i tire out before he does

also please consider checking out your local shelters, so many dogs in need of a good home, i know everyone wants the cute puppy, but you won't regret the feeling the dog reciprocates to you for adopting one into a loving home

I second the shelter dog as well. My Shepherd is pure-bread and I have another little pound puppy that I got that I think is part Rhodesian Ridgeback (without the ridge in the back, so she's some kind of mix). It's true that this dog will love you so much for rescuing it.

i got my a dachshund. sometimes too dam playful but very loyal and loves squeakers and to play catch.  oh let me know forget he loves to sit on your lap or be right next to you AT ALL TIMES

I got a multi-shit a maltese and shih-tzu mix.  its a small dog which I like cause they are easy to care for.  can bring them everywhere you go with ease, nobody is scared of him, he doesn't shed, super friendly, plays well with bigger dogs. doesn't require tons of food or attention.  easy to tire out and play with.

I grew up with black/chocolate labs but will only have small dogs that do not shed as an adult.  seriously hate shedding dogs now, no more dog hair in my butter dish or in my salad.  no need to run the vaccuum everyday or change my sheets.

grew up with a boston terrier..male.. my mom had another male and now has 2 females .. cute and friendly.

We own 2 labs, yellow and black, both just turned 4 years old last week.  Incredibly smart animals. And i'm thankful for them everyday. The problem is that my better half, wants to add a dalmation to the mix.  I'm not on board at all. I know they are very active dogs, that need lots of exercise. Thats not a problem as we both are very active and former athletes. I guess I just can't see a dalmation fitting into the mix. But I'll be the first to admit I don't know shit about the breed.

Anybody on here own a dalmation?

My mother had one too.  The little guy didn't realize he was a dog and tried to talk to us all the time.  When we spoke back he turned his head sideways like, "speak my language".  She is a widow and for her he was like having another little human around the house.  Very intuitive and intelligent dogs.

Anecdotally, I've heard dalmations can be a pain in the ass.  But it's just what I've heard from others.

I love labs, but they can be flat nuts sometimes.  Absolutely full of energy.  I know 2 friends who have them and they can barely contain themselves.  I know one other person who has a lab that is just a sweetheart.

I grew up with miniature schnauzers.  Sturdy/stout......great with children....loyal as the day is long.

The typical Miniature Schnauzer is alert and spirited, yet obedient to command. He is friendly, intelligent and willing to please.

English Mastiff by far the best dog I've ever had.  He's very loyal starting to be protective.  Great with kids.  He's only a puppy and already weighs over 130 pounds.  He also thinks he's a lap dog and will jump up and lay in your lap.  Very smart dog can sit out in the front yard without a leash or anything and won't run away.  Although he did run when his girlfriend left because she was in heat, but that's the only time.

I have 2 french bulldogs. They are great dogs, they get along with other dogs and children very well. You just have to watch that they dont get overheated, and they snore even when they are awake but you get used to it pretty fast.  I was gonna get a boxer when i was looking for my first dog, but went with the frenchie cause they are significantly smaller.

black female boxer that's almost a year and a half old. The previous comments about their energy levels as pups are completely accurate. But once you weather the storm, you're in the money for they are amazing dogs.

English Bulldog, and it's a stand-up comedian without even trying.  Never leaves the property, never been leashed.  House broke the minute the wife yelled at it the 1st time.  The best with kids!!  All muscle, looks like it'll rip your head off, but is very gentle.  We got a rare brindle & white color.  Family tears are going to flow when she kicks the bucket.

I used to keep an eye on a neighbors dalmation when they were on vaction, had a black lab at the time.  My dog was smart... that dalmation put him to shame - and it wasn't a good thing.  She could stand up on her back legs and open doorknobs... not long handles, round doorknobs.  When the family was on vacation it would open the doors to its cage, stand on its back legs at the top of the stairs and open the door to get upstairs... and would piss on their bed when.  Went back downstairs and CLOSED THE DOOR BEHIND IT.  I would go back over and the cage was open, first door closed, bedroom doors open, dog fur on the bed, and a piss stain.  Happened twice.
