When did sports card collecting get so complicated?

The problem with paying money for cards anymore is noone will buy them from you.

Took in some Tony Romo Rookie Refractor cards the other day to the local card shop...going rate right now is 40% of book value. And he only buys rookies. I'm not talking Dez Bryant rookie cards either....Brady, Pujols, LeBron...you get the point...

yay those jersey cards come out every year, the value for some of them is 200$ the following year u can get 180$ for the same card, then it drops to 160 the year after.... so basically u can finda 2009 adrian gonzalez jersey card for like 140$... such a shame...  u gotta flip cards the day u fiind them in packs... and its impossible to find the hard to find cards.

Back in day the most of the card shops would weigh all the packs and the ones with 1 game-used jersey pack would obviously weigh a few more grams than a pack of 14inserts and 1 nice card [ no game-used obviously] so they would open those , take out the good card and then re-seal them and re-sell them. I knew of about 3 places doing this in a 1mile radius.

Yep.  I used to love collecting.  Sometimes I think about starting up again, but the only interest I have is in Steelers cards and maybe some other stars of the league.  It is a very expensive hobby these days though.  And the truth of it is, many of these cards that are "worth" 20-40-60 bucks wont be worth the paper they're printed on in five years. 

     For example... look at what these people on Ebay are getting for these Emmanuel Sanders cards.  This is a complete joke and you'd have to be an idiot to spend this money.  They will not have any return I guarantee it.  In ten years, these cards will be worth almost nothing.  Yet people are spending the money on cards of players like these, and he has done almost nothing!  Now if you want to spend some cash on a really good Brady card, then yes you might be making a good investment.

the only question in my day was how many pieces of that gum we could cram in our mouths.

The cards were secondary.

those were the days, the day packs went to 1$ a pack were the days cards went history

I'm actually looking at a Patrick Roy one now.. Guaranteed I couldn't even get back what the cost was to make the card..

This is gonna make me sound like I'm 70, but I actually remember my mom giving me a dime to get a pack of baseball cards (Topps).  Topps was all I collected when I was a kid, then Fleer and Donruss came out, but I wasn't a fan.

I recently started looking at my old cards and buying a few new boxes.   This is one expensive hobby now.
