Owners of Drafted, the 5th place finisher in the Forego Stakes, lost the 26k purse money because their jockey, Luis Rodriquez- Castro, used his whip 10 times instead of the allowed 9 times. OUCH!
Jockey Gerald Melancon was arrested at Evangeline Downs for alleged "unnatural stimulation" of horses. The investigation is ongoing,
Oaklawn will pay bonuses up to $250 per horse to trainers for any non-stakes starters willing to race through May of 2023. Trainers must race at least 2 horses in the last 14 days of the meet. They expect total bonuses to be paid in the range of 750k. Good to see tracks getting innovative to get full fields. Let's see if it works out.
Lat year the average Pick 5 @ Kentucky Downs paid over 43k. It's a wild track to play with all races on the grass up/down hills.

today, race10 is for a million. pixelate last years winner in for the million again today.
del mar got 300k stakes in races 7 ,9 and 11 and the pacific classic for a million in race10 , flightline 4-4 lifetime goes
around two turns and 1/1/4 for the first time as the heavy choice.
The New Mexico Racing Commission is conducting its own investigation into jockeys accused of participating in unsanctioned racing. In early August, the Washington Post published an investigated article detailing the horrors of bush racing at a track in Georgia, where the Post reported horses were given injections immediately before races, horses ran with no pre-race examinations by veterinarians, illegal betting took place, and jockeys openly carried buzzers. Four jockeys have been identified.
Kentucky Downs in Franklin, Ky., canceled Saturday's racing after the seventh race because of inclement weather. A major rainstorm swept through the area in the afternoon.
The cancellation came after the running of the Juvenile Fillies Stakes. Among the races cancelled were the Kentucky Downs Juvenile Mile and the WinStar Mint Million Stakes. The latter will be run on Sept. 10, with the Juvenile Mile rescheduled for Sept. 14. Nominations for both races have been reopened and will close on Sept. 4. Previously nominated horses will automatically remain as nominees.
Kentucky Downs also canceled racing for Sunday, Sept. 4, because of heavy rain Saturday and the forecast for more inclement weather. Track officials said they hope to be able to transfer Sunday's card to Monday, Labor Day.

phil..I noticed Rosario is on a bunch of live horses & could win 3 or more.
Javier Castellano won't be there. He hurt his ankle at the SPA when his mount hit the rail tearing open his boot & socks but not breaking the skin.
Johnny V has only 3 mounts on the card all coming late in races 10 thru 12.
Also noticed that Prat has gone back to Del Mar.
Trainer Mike Maker has horses in 8 of the 12 races. I mention this because he's won the most races @ KD.
On Wednesday at Canterbury, jockey Jermaine Bridgemohan took a bad spill while on the lead. He's still hospitalized with broken bones in his back, ribs & a collapsed lung.
I think we lose sight of how dangerous racing can be for both the jockey & horse. He was evidently trampeled when jocks behind his horse couldn't avoid him.

I often catch the morning workouts at Del Park. Generally, it's just as dangerous out there then as when racing goes on. Horses running different workouts, untrained and unschooled horses it can be really hectic.
The beauty of it is you can hear everything, all the banter and riders cursing up a storm all that stuff.
Florent Geroux has decided to part ways with his agent Doug Bredar after the BC races. They've been together for the past 12 years.
He better hope the grass is greener on the other side of the fence because these two were a winning combination & they built relationships with trainers/owners all across the country.
Ever hear of jockey Kylee Jordan?
She just happens to be the leading female jockey in the US with 132 wins.
Jordan is going to the Breeders Cup & will be up on undefeated Tyler's Tribe whose 5 wins have been by a total of 58 lengths.
Trainer Tim Martin hasn't decided if he'll go in the Juvenile or the Juvenile Turf.
Either way, Kylee Jordan will get the thrill of a lifetime riding in a BC race.
Churchill Downs Inc has banned trainer Karl Broberg from entering any horses at Churchill & Fairgrounds after an incident involving a voided claim & the post race treatment of Rockandahardplace.
Churchill accused Broberg of not having a representative available at the track to make the necessary veterinary decisions for the injured animal & he was charged with neglect.

Yea Crusher, Broberg has made his money for years in the claiming ranks & rarely do you see him ship anywhere for big stake races. I remember him training Greely and Ben & he wasn't afraid to ship him but no other horse comes to mind.
I have a couple in mind for the BC races but have to see how it all shakes out as well as the decisions trainers make on where to run their horses.
A Keeneland record payoff of $72,863.72 for a 10-cent superfecta wager occurred in Thursday's seventh race at the Lexington, Ky., racetrack. The ticket, which swept the entire pool, was placed through NYRA Bets and cost only $18.
Keying the payoff was the win of 54-1 shot Fancy Martini, who is owned by Carl Moore Management and trained by Joe Sharp. James Graham was the winning rider.
Completing the superfecta in order were 37-1 shot Barista, 48-1 shot Smarmy and 4-1 shot Sister Lou Ann.
The winning combination was 6-8-5-2.

Here's an update on the leading female jockey in the country Kylee Jordan.
She's racing @ Keenland now & getting experience over the track for the BC race she'll be riding. Yesterday, she was on a 70-1 shot & ran 4th losing 3rd by a head. She went right for the lead from post 10. She has one today in Race 6 another MSW & it's #12 Bolt Forty Five ML 6-1. Cute play on a horse name.
Trainer Tom Amoss has been suspended 7 days for a positive lidocaine test in Indiana.
Fair Grounds opens up it's 80 day meet this Friday the 18th.
Trainer Chad Brown pled guilty to a reduced charge of harassment. The harassment plea was reduced from the original charge of criminal obstruction of breathing, a misdemeanor. Brown was arrested the night of Aug. 17 after a female acquaintance of his told police she used a key to enter Brown's residence and discovered him with another woman. Prosecutors said the victim claims Brown pushed her down a stairway, pinned her to the floor, attempted to choke her, then threw her out of the house.
Gotta be careful who you give a key to your crib.
Doug O'Neil gets suspended again for 30 days due to a lidocaine positive test. He states a groom being treated for shingles transferred the drug while taking care of the colt.
Kent Desormeaux will be back in the saddle Friday @ Del Mar. Hopefully he has control of the demons that have cost him dearly throughout his career.
Struggled some in life as we all do, but what a jock. As your well aware, 3 time derby and Preakness record and not sure what year,
but he holds the record for single season wins.
Two mounts tomorrow and think hes got a good shot in the sixth race. Makes the difference on this horse at decent odds.
