 BC races produce some telephone number payoffs. Catching a nice $300 tri early in the card gives me more confidence than I can handle. I try not to get clobbered on the Friday races so that I have plenty of powder for Saturday.

Last year, we threw a party. Never again! Got tired of explaining trifecta keys & how many races you have to win in the PICK3.  Maybe 1 or 2 close friends who know their shit. 

After these races, very few pay attention to the horses but I still keep my eye on horses in my stable.  .

Owner Mike Repole has announced that Forte has been retired at the age of 3 after winning 7 of 10 races totaling a little over 3 million  

Another 3 year old, Arabian Lion has been retired. He was purchased for 600k & made 498k in earnings. His stud fee to knock hooves is 30k. 

A whistleblower has accused Gulfstream Park of secretly pumping water contaminated with horse manure into our Intracoastal Waterway. Back in 2017, the Stronach Group  was fined 487k for the same violation. 

Young Cody Dorman passed away Saturday while returning home to Kentucky from Cali after seeing Cody's Wish win the BC Dirt Mile.

He was 17 years old.

Erik Asmussen, the youngest son of Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen, will make his riding debut Wednesday in Race 5 at Churchill Downs aboard Risk Profile, also owned by his father.

Johnny V will be spending his winter at Gulfstream. It's a big deal because he stayed in Cali during the winter the past 2 years. It's fun to see him in the walking ring & watch him intently get his instructions from the trainer.

Tyler Gafflione, who is from Davie, FL will be at the meet along with Irad & Jose Ortiz, Saez, Paco & Joe Bravo. European jockeys Sean Levey, Vincent Cheminaud & Oisin Murphy will also ride in SFLA. Keep an eye on Cheminaud when he rides for Shug & Clement.

The meet starts tomorrow.

How about the news regarding Belmont 2024!  I think going to 1 1/4 miles at The Spa is going to make for 3 big fields for the Triple Crown.

Will be interesting to see how this shapes up next year and how trainers / owners adjust their plans with the new distance.

Didn't know that Katie Davis was married to Trevor McCarthy

Rarely do I see Katie on the lead trying to steal a race out front. IMO is a closing killer.

Other than riding her Dad Robbie Davis' horses, she rode a couple for trainer Ray Handal that no other rider wanted to ride. When she won on them, other trainers started paying attention to her. I always  give her mounts more than a cursory look.

Keep an eye out for White Abarrio in the Saudi Cup on February 25th.

Remember he won the BC Classic & he's been a beast with Tricky Dick Dutrow after leaving trainer Saffie Joseph. 

I didn't know that it's rare for a "gray" foal to be actually gray at birth. 

Normally, they shed a few coats before turning gray.

Linda Rice will start a 14 day suspension on March 3rd for the overuse of bute.

Read something disturbing about one of my favorite owners, Ken Ramsey. He was being sued by trainers Wesley Ward & Mike Maker for services rendered including purse money won by Ramsey's horses. He owed Ward over a million & just under a million to Maker. Some of these bills went back almost 4 years. In Ward's case, Ramsey had put money in escrow until a settlement was arranged. Ramsey stated the payment delays were due to delayed sales in his real estate dealings.

History was made at Meydan Racecourse on Friday when Saffie Osborne became the first female jockey to ride a winner in the course’s 14-year history.

Don't forget the BELMONT will take place at Saratoga this year as the construction continues on Belmon't facilty which will reopen in the fall of 2026 when they hope to host the BC races.

All tickets for the Belmont at the SPA were sold out months ago.

Due to a knee injury, Locked is off the Derby trail & may be seen again in the Travers.

For the 5th time, Steve Asmussen has been found guilty of not paying overtime to grooms & hotwalkers.

He was fined 243K. 

Gulfstream's parking lot is flooded & so is the stable area.

Expect racing to be cancelled tomorrow & Friday. Maybe even Saturday

Money isn't going to hurt him, Baffert him for 'x' number of days/months at any and all tracks he's screwing people out of earned money.  Just my two cents.

Even if racing will take place on Saturday, doubt they'd risk races on the lawn but the synthetic surface should get a workout the first few days back.
