I know you took all the money out and bought a fortified bunker like Vermeer is saying with food storage, solar powered appliances and dug a well for water.

You have been consistent though..I will give you that.

I am not gloomy about the world in general (how can I be when this is the golden age of wine production?) but about the American empire's demise, yes...

 Oh certainly I am bearish, and frankly the thought has occurred to me that people I once considered true loonies, the survivalists, may turn out not to be so loony after all.A couple of dirty bombs let off, say in DC and NYC, and all hell breaks loose...let us both hope this never occurs.

 I am very bearish on the prospects of the US market, for all the reasons you and I have discussed.You have so many pathetic people running our institutions, pathological specimens really, incapable of announcing the truth even if they discovered it by accident.Pols, well, the sheer egomania and pathological lying really do not make for trustworthy leadership do they?

 Higher oil prices greater demands on services, absurd financing of obligations both public and private etc etc.A printing press instead of backbone in monetary and fiscal policy.Etc etc.

 No need tor review it. Despite that, one can make money, even if it is betting on a negative (SKF) or in line with demographical certainties (oils and energy, staples..etc.)

  So while the outlook for the United States in particular is bleak, deservedly so,  there is a tremendous amount of momentum unleashed as communism dies its long overdue death in China and elsewhere. The utterly laughable condition of the countries still wedded to that form of oppression/fantasy N Korea and Cuba merely reinforces to the Chinese how pathetic as an economic ideology it truly was and is.Only parts of Harvard, Berkeley,and Dartmouth have not gotten the memo.

  As you say, cheers! There are many things to celebrate in from a world view, just not that many trends to celebrate in the US.

Misery loves company and unfortunately, we have a lot of it...

In Europe’s largest economy, Germany, the benchmark DAX index is off slightly more than 20 percent this year, and the CAC-40 in France is down almost 22 percent. The Euro Stoxx 50, a gauge for the 15-nation euro zone, has declined by about 24 percent. The nearly 15 percent decline in the FTSE 100 in Britain looks tame by comparison.

Emerging market indexes have fared even worse. The Hang Seng in Hong Kong has plunged nearly 21 percent, the Shanghai Composite has lost nearly half its value this year. The Bombay 500 in India lost about 38 percent.

The declines at major stock markets worldwide suggest that the same economic concerns are in play: rising inflation, which has been caused for the most part by record oil prices. Oil hit a new high of $140.21 a barrel on Friday.

 On a bear note, one thing that I keep in the back of my mind is the question of an Israeli strike on Iran is in the cars, and if so, when?
 One can only imagine the impact on markets should it occur.

 I suspect that if Obama wins, or even looks likely to win late, the strike occurs. Simply, the Israelis are not going to "go quietly into that good night" (nor should they) and I am certain they have little use for Obama.

 The Israelis have already given the crazies a taste of what to expect, and the Syrians got the message and did not raise a peep. If the fellows in Iran did not read that message, they are slow indeed.



 

 vermeer - it seems that none of israel's emenies take any past beatings to heart. syria, iran, lebanon and whomever else feels like challenging the full might of the israeli army will get beaten down fast

they dont fight politically correct like we did in iraq. no media coverage...just quick and strategic strikes

 I think they deem Iranian nuclear weapons as a dire threat to their existence (they are right to think so in my opinion). So when it comes down to national security they will ignore any fatuous advice from the US and do whatever it is they feel they need to do to make certain they go down fighting if they go down.

 We can play games and try to appease the lunatic fringe of certain countries, but their existence is on the line.They could care less what the PC crowd in US universities thinks when it comes to security.

HYGS up another 15% today so far.  This stock could run for a long long time.  Hydrogen infrastructure company.  California just starting to lead the way and HYGS is right in the middle of it.

I dont get it on HYGS.

First i dont think fuel cell turns out to be the solution, second they would probably have to triple or greater their current revenue to BREAK EVEN. They lose 1.50 for every dollar they get in revenue.

Next they are a cash burning machine, and watch out if they start to ramp up production..dilution like crazy.

Ive watched this stock going back to 2001 and I just dont see them ever turning the hype into sales.

Same goes for BCON, they are hype stocks and I just would never invest in either.

If you want fuel cell why not go with Ballard?

Ballard is fine, but I think HYGS is in a better space.  It's more than fuel cells, HYGS is involved in the rollout of hydrogen stations, esp in California.  Big initiative in California and it's a huge market.  It's already started.  Gotta have the stations before the cars can catch on.

Up 24% now today.  Touched $.50 a little over 2 months ago, now $1.82.  Something definitely happening here.

yeah it is on the move, no doubt about it.

In California there might be something that develops but the rest of the country wont participate with this and wont subsidize like Calif will.

Also, unless fuel cell becomes affordable, there wont be a need for hydro stations, so yeah the stations are needed but who wants to spend double for a car that will save SOME yet you wont even break even on ownership for what 7-10 years?

Cost of fuel even at 4 per gallon does not pay for fuel cell over the length of most ownership. Add that the hydro fuel stations arent free, so the real benefit of fuel cell is environmental and even that is debateable (products of making fuel cells are harmful to the environment).

I hope it goes to 5 bucks for you though, but no way would I buy a fuel cell stock. After looking them over it does seem that HYGS is in the middle of the pack, not highly overvalued for the sector.

Well, that’s not exactly true, I admit, but $667 per day times 365 days a year is $243,455 a year, which used to be a lot, but these days, thanks to the rampant inflation of the last few decades, it is not all that much anymore, and half of all government workers probably make that much when
you add in the full value of their overly-generous benefit packages!

And even half of that, or $334 a day, is $121,727 a year, which, if taxed as income, would yield net-of-tax about what the full Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and welfare packages now deliver per recipient! Free food, free medical care, free housing, and literally given cash to spend!

But this is not about how little it costs to stage a Roman feast, but about what happens when people are used to getting free gluttony, and then suddenly they are not. Perhaps a clue can be found when the Roman author
Seneca “wrote that his friend, the food writer Apicius, drank poison and committed suicide rather than give up the gluttonous lifestyle he could no longer afford.”

The bad news is that today’s feasters, gorging themselves at the government trough, are not going to commit suicide. They are going to riot, and elect politicians to continue the feast, regardless of the cost.Regardless of the cost! Hahaha! We’re freaking doomed!

Market couldn't even manage to hold gains today.  Seems likely to fall further.  Sub-11K this week is certainly not out of the realm.  Summer swings could get really violent, both ways.
