I liked what I heard from George today in his interview about DRYS. Very well put on his end. Not sure how they get $30 in this market for the spinoff . . . but a great way to think about the company.
Hell if you buy into DRYS now you get a nice 4% dividend as well. And that number will only go up as market gets crushed even more. Not bad.

Do they have a "circuit breaker" and if so does anyone know what level it would kick in at?
I'd be pissed if I were them, they went through their crises by themselves over a decade ago and now they sucked into this vortex that they had little or nothing to do with.

The value of obtaining 9 capes without seeking financing is HUGE. I think he probably valued them based on higher BDI rates, so there is some juice in there but to get those with little to zero cash down adds value. Nobody will get financing for new vessels now, not for a while and George was heavy on Panas and this will even out the fleet.
I also think 30 is what will happen..he is basing it on asset value, not some number of EBITDA multiple..he showed the numbers, assets minus debt for equity, divided by share count.
That said, wait until 2011 and all 6 are operating..I see earnings in 2011 of 15 per share or more..depending on rates, maybe less if oil craters..but for sure the 6 rigs will make 15, could be closer to 20. The two existing OR rigs will make 6-7 EBITDA next year..add 4 more and you see where I get my numbers. Throw a 5-6 multiple and I could see this being worth 90-100 per share..with 6 UDW rigs they are the 4th largest public company assets wise.
I think 30 is right..which means we are staring at a monster value here.

does the asian market go down because the usa went down today or does the usa markets follow up on asia from the night before? for example is asia down 10% today because of what happened on wall st or are we going to go down more because of it

Mr.Blonde, the problem is that today was the first day off the short sale ban, so the financials could go down more. I did look at the UYG tonight and I would go in 25% now and if you wanted more I would be careful and buy slowly since earnings reports are coming and shorting is allowed.

And right on que here comes Moody's to fan the flames, putting MS on watch for a possible ratings downgrade and lowering the long term outlook for GS to negative.

I feel like your aviator jax. In the speculation leading up to the bailout I gambled on small positions with UYG, GS, FRE and they are all getting crushed.
I picked up some DRYS yesterday for 20.50 (on WS's advice) so hopefully that treats me better.

they should have odds on if they halt trading tomorrow on the stock market. i think odds of +2500 would be accurate. 1 in 25 chance that the shit hits the fan and we say enough for the day come back monday after the G-7 meeting.
