Australia cuts rates by 100 bps and India cut as well. It could be the start of the anticipated global rate cuts.
Can they convince Trechet to pull his head out of his ass long enough to do the same though? Just yesterday he was saying that the bank situation is just overblown and banks are fine.

Man, Jax, I hope peeps reading use the next short covering bear market sucker's rally to at least lighten up on their holdings.
Trechet is an egomaniac who just likes attention.
The problem was had when subprime broke 15 months ago in 2007. There should have never been emergency rate cuts, opening the discount window, flooding the market with freshly printed money, etc.....
Had the crap just been allowed to run its course, no way would the problem right now be as bad as it is.

Don;t you think Trichet was essentially right in his initial reactions to the crisis? After all his reaction was what you say should have happened in the third paragraph of above.
He has been criticised for not acting ala Brnanke ...not sure whether that is legit or accurate criticism or not.

Hat I saw that last night and didnt get it. BAC was getting killed in after hours and I had no idea how the market would be up today.
Notice that the financials are down, but then they drag EVERYTHING else down with them..so the NAZ is down 3% with the financials, just another reason to resume the selling.

One (of many) questions I have is why the Feds have not addressed the unregulated CDS market.D they simply have no ideas what to do regarding this absurd circumstance? A huge unregulated market?
Secondly, can anyone give me a link that I can forward to a little old ladt who has lost her mind over Wachovia? She has 1/4 million in cash/CDs with them.I told her months ago to simply xfer the money into a safer bank, she wants a comprehensive table of ratings rather than looking up indivudual banks or credit unions. If ya got a place thanks, if not no big deal anyway.
If I were getting a % I would care more but hell I told her months ago to bail out of those guys.

Look at the market right now bluesplayer, I'm also interested in stocks, but not right now, this is not a market for a beginner to start off in, that's for sure. Everything is getting slaughtered right now.

with all the steps the gov and fed are taking theirs no way this will last that long. 2-5 years max.
remember the main problem is the housing market. once credit becomes available people will start buying homes again at very low prices.
Hope you are right. You have vastly more faith in the ability of our government than I do, that is for sure. Given the people I have been around who worked for them at all levels, top to bottom, I think they end up prolonging the problem, not solving it.
But like I say I hop you are right.

jax very true but even an emergency small cut today even 25 bp wouldnt hurt to try. i mean anything would help at his point. i dunno maybe a 25 bp wouldnt be good as it would look like more panic and then they would say that the cut isnt enough and then more panic.
