I'm new to this site but not new to sports betting by any means. I just moved to Vegas from the PNW because I realized that this is where I needed to be to take it seriously. I won't go into my P/L but my % Win and ROI are decent enough that I did decide to make the move. I'm really just looking for feedback on a few concerns/questions I have. I'd be very grateful if some more experienced bettors in the 702 or frequent visitors could chime in with their knowledge.
a) Casino Rewards Cards... I've noticed that several casinos ask for this in order to place bets of a certain amount ($500+ typically it seems), is it wise to get and use these if you are a sharp? Do you use them? Is it feasible to actually deviate around this system? It would seem to me that you wouldn't want them tracking your activity at all. Maybe it's futile anyhow though considering they swipe your ID when collecting on a winning ticket?
b) The next question kinda leads into this one... Can you just place bets across town at all the different casinos? I guess I'm a bit uncertain about this only because many of the casinos are owned by the same parent company.
c) Has anyone here ever been banned from a casino for winning too much? If so, how long did that take and what were your units and how many units were you placing per bet?
Thanks

He used to call himself "College Gambler", but now he calls himself "Hollywood" for some reason, even though he's from New Jersey. He should be able to hook you up with a sweet gig handing out leaflets on the strip once Vegas chews you up and spits you out.....
Good Luck!

Hey, congrats! All you have to do is find this guy:

Read the thread 'Moving to las Vegas to be a pro handicapper' something to that effect..it is in the website promotions forum and maybe buried a few pages..
Guy ignored some solid advice, chased way too much and did everything opposite of what he said would be solid handicapping day and night and pick and choose only his best bets. That lasted a few weeks. He blew a lot of $ and then hit up his IRA also.
Guy partied also, never seemed to treat the whole deal as 'work'. GL to yourself.keep us posted.

Everyone has been talking about this College Gambler guy. I checked the thread out and he seemed like a pretty loose cannon to begin with-- in both conversation and lifestyle. Frankly, I don't much care for clubs as the people inside are typically the shallow a$$holes of society. It's nice to get a few pints at the bar but drinking is just a social thing.
I guess it's funny to me how many people here are just outright negative about this endeavor. No one has bothered to actually help answer my original questions but most have been quick to assume this is just going to be a massive failure. At any rate, I appreciate your GL wish.

Probably better to invest your time, money and energy in an education or a skill and put in real work.
I trade stocks for a living and I'm comfortable with the income I make. I think education is a good thing but working a 9-5 is not how the real money is made. University typically sets you up for that type of job. The only way you can get ahead in this world is per your own initiative.

Just a reply as to why no one answered you original questions, people want stories, tired about answering/need advice this moved to LV topic too many times..The CG actually gave a year's worth of entertainment
.I have no idea about your question #1.
I have never had my players card swiped for a win at any casino in Las Vegas.Have you and for how much $.For a few hundred bet I will give them my card if I have it on me,but no problem if I don't.I am a small better, never over $500 a game.
You will have to figure that out yourself depending on the amounts you wager weekly and spread around.Don;t use players cards thinking this will give you comps besides a few drink tickets..
And question # 2 Of course you can spread bets all over town.In one day you will know the different props to hit.Tip a couple of the ticket writers and get some up-to-date info on how to avoid any worries you have about this.
Good triangle of recent was Palms Rio Gold Coast for varied books and walking distance of each other.
Props charging for parking now so forget the Strip traffic..
If you sign up online at a couple of the books those winnings may require reportable taxes where if you are unknown in person at the book, they don't care (Some figure at $10 k they do but under not sure)
You mentioned University instead of College so I am guessing You're from the UK so may be a whole different taxing issue to deal with.GL

Yeah, I'm not as flamboyant as CG so there probably won't be a year-long running story here. Sorry to everyone searching for a tabloid...
I really don't care about comps to be honest... if the writer gives drink tickets to me when I place, I'll use them but I don't really go out of my way to ask for them because I don't care all that much. I understand the marketing and that's not the reason I bet. For this reason, I'd prefer to avoid loyalty cards altogether but I'm starting to think that that will be largely impossible. I tried to place a dime on Den.<Tenn. ML at Texas Station and the ticket writer told me I needed a player's card. He said "anything over 500 blah, blah, blah" so anything $500+ (w/o players card) at the smaller books will be seemingly troublesome.
My main concern with the loyalty cards is that they will eventually be used by the IRS for audits. That might not be imminent but I think that is where it is heading. The moment that happens, there will be absolutely no reason for me, and many others I assume, to be in Vegas. The only thing truly keeping that from happening at the moment is competition from offshores books coupled with the fact that casinos are already big taxpayers imo. All that being said, I will never sign up for the mobile betting offered by the sportsbooks.
I actually have been asked for a players card upon a win. I was at the Mirage in early October (visiting Vegas at that time) and I placed $2500 on +170 for the Falcons to beat Denver. The ticket writer didn't blink when I made the bet but when I went to collect they asked for a rewards card. I told them I didn't have one wherein they verified my ID and I was paid out. I didn't get the feeling that that was something they overlook often with that sort of payout though.
I'll just have to make the rounds to different places across town. I'll probably not make more than 200 bets in a year, I'm more about quality than quantity.
Also, I'm not from the UK-- Pacific Northwest... I see university as the term for the 4-year institution and college as the term for the specific 2-year school of study within the 4-year institution. University has actually turned into one of the bigger scams of American history if you ask me, but that's another topic altogether...
Thank you for your responses James, I really appreciate it.

Best wishes Desert,Now I know what PNW stands for.
Don't really think you have to worry about the IRS though unless you have numerous $10,000 cash-in or bets paid out.Someone on here will give better info than me..Mafiso ?
But do track your daily activity (gambling) in a journal and keep all losing tix as backup for audit if you declare losses on your tax return.
And remember just like at the home racetrack there is always a retired person around who will cash a ticket for a % if you want to stay that far under the radar.

GL on your venture. College Gambler thought he knew it all but knew very little. There are a lot of people on these forums whom can give you good advice. You just have to pick and choose.

Hey, thanks for the kind words. I'm doing ok so far here but nothing extraordinary either. There definitely are some folks on Covers that know the ins and outs but also quite a few that are just all talk. At any rate, I'm slowly weeding out squares from sharps.
BOL to you cjm

I wish you the best, anything is possible when your discipline and have goals and limits. You sound like a cool guy unlike Mr. Hot Head Chasing CG.
Thanks, I appreciate that KK1.
So far, so good. +12u in two months, in large part thanks to a Falcons futures ticket. We'll see how NBA pans out though... I'm pretty much break-even there at the moment.
to you as well brother!

Was the Atlanta ticket Win NFC? How many of those units were the Atlanta payoff? You're averaging 1.5 units a week, does a unit cover your nut? NBA is almost at the All-Star break, you say you're breaking even but if you're just cutting bait you're really way behind.
College Basketball,1 of the easier games to win and they play everynight-you aren't playing?
Why do I think that that Atlanta Ticket was to Win Super Bowl??
None of my f**king business, but whats a Unit?

To answer your questions...
Yes, the ticket (actually 5 tickets at different books for $200 each) was for Falcons to win the SB @ an actual averaged 19/1 odds. I placed those bets after the 3rd to last week of regular season.
Due to a very premature "hedge" on KC, which I acknowledge was actually pretty idiotic of me, that $19,000 payout turned to $17,000 real value. I have hedged Patriots ML at this point because it is the wise thing to do. You can make money with money but you can't make money with nothing. I will win $7,200 if Patriots win OR I will win $9,800 if Falcons take it. As you can see, I'm not accounting for the possible 14u gain for a Falcons SB win because that is not the guaranteed of the two possible gains.
My current U is $700, which I will be readjusting this week considering I will be reaping my roi today. A vast majority of those 12u are from NFL futures payout then... basically 10u if you are doing the math along with me. The other 2u was mostly made on NFL reg. season. The juice is minimal for me because I'm not a high frequency bettor. I place 3-5 bets a week-- plays about which I'm most confident. I believe that Quality trumps Quantity but to each their own. Big boys don't play Caveman Keno and there is no such thing as lonely whiskey.
I don't follow or bet college ball because I enjoy the caliber of NBA more-- it's not a bunch of kids running around a court making gobs of mistakes. Also, seeing that I'm already some years removed from my college days, I don't relate with college sports as much anymore. You could argue that CBB is more exciting and they aren't paid etc. etc. and that is fine. Once again, to each their own.
I hope that clears things up. All the best to you 666les
