An activation no longer appears imminent for Max Scherzer, as his shoulder hasn't responded to extra rest as well as the Rangers had anticipated.
The Rangers will determine the next steps for the veteran right-hander once he's evaluated further, but with his stay on the IL likely extending into late August if not September

Yep...2 games without pay...starting tonight. MLB involved too.
The left-hander made five rehab starts with multiple minor-league affiliates, including Triple-A Columbus, producing an impressive 0.83 ERA with 27 punchouts over 21.2 innings.
Boyd reached only 63 pitches in his most recent start Wednesday with Columbus, so he'll likely still be on some sort of pitch limit against Chicago.
I have nothing against LUGO (Royals)....fine starter!
Look at his numbers:
credited wins = 13 - 6......1.05 WHIP stat!!....and just 2.72 ERA!!!

BUT... look at his consistency, especially RECENTLY, in consecutive starts:
July 6 .....pitched well at weakass Rockies (Royals lost)
July 13 ... BAD outing at decent BoSox (Royals lose)
** won't count but allowed 2 hits in 1.0ip in AllStar game (poor!)
July 21 ... pitched well home vs weakass CWS (Royals won)
July 27 ... BAD outing home vs mediocre Cubbies (Royals lose)
Aug 01 ... pitched well vs weakass Tigers (Royals won)
Aug 06 ... BAD outing vs decent BoSox again (Royals lost)
So, he pitched well in 3 - but all weakass teams! (losing one of those)
He face decent teams 3 times and had 3 BAD outings (losing all 3!)
... despite impressive numbers for the season to date...
He is on the road today facing a Twinkies team that is decent facing righties.
If one is influenced solely by his key stats, this might seem an easy call...but
WARNING: STREAKER alert! 
This STARTER is riding a tenuous 7-game HOT STREAK,
WITHOUT a BAD outing in that streak .....YET!
...but this should be anticipated to end at anytime!!!

Make no mistake, this dude and others I will identify in the future are GOOD starters - some of them exceptional! HOWEVER, probability says "consecutive streaks won't last long"...All GOOD pitchers will have an "off" day and get roughed up - sometimes mauled - before they resume their stellar pitching performances again. It happens to the best of them. Just CAN NOT be avoided.
When??? We can't know that for certain but my stats over many years indicate the time to start to worry is when they reach SEVEN (7) consecutive outings without a BAD one in that bunch (at any point in the season) Sure some HOT streaks may continue for 2 or 3 more performances. It happens! But for me, I don't need the stress that his bubble may burst that day! There's other games to look at. I can simply skip those "STREAKER" dudes until *AFTER* their inevitable BAD outing, then resume looking at his starts after that! 
NYY are once again a HUGE ML road fav (-300) despite getting a whupping yesterday by the same CWS!

He has pitched 5 CONSECUTIVE *BAD* outings!!.... 4 were less than 5 innings.....given up 24 earned runs in 5 games.
Weakass CWS got 11 hits off the NYY pen last night after getting 7 hits off GIL - who is a far better starter than CORTES!
