Just dont understand why the sox have been considered heavy favs over the yanks. I dont have a problem with many picking them, but everyone? I mean boston has issues after lester/bucholz just like the yanks do in the rotation. Yanks have a better pen. Boston added 2 studs to the lineup but you know the yanks lineup is loaded also. So... i see it pretty even to me
Better pen ?
Mo and Soriano then who else ?
U act like Papelbon and Bard are 2 piles of shit..
If you would have said that they have the better closer then i would agree.... But better pen is very much debatable...

I mean damn they have played 3 games on the road against one of the best lineups in baseball.... Everything will be ok... This sounds very familiar with the "Greatest team of all time" (Heat) this year.....

First of all rivera and soriano alone makes it pretty damn good. Joba, robertson, boone logan and now feliciano when he gets back is a pretty strong pen. Save the joba comments i know they are coming hes the weak link of that group i mentioned so we will see. Yanks have a better pen

This thread is getting off track, turning into yanks vs sox thread instead of the threads title. There is absolutely concern with this team, doesn't matter if they got off to a slow start or not. their entire season will be won or lost with the starting pitching. The bull pen will hold their own, the offense will score a lot of runs, not to worry there, Salty will be fine behind the plate and Francona will give a solid coaching campaign, it's the starting pitching, period. Lester will be pretty solid, Dice-K, if remains healthy, i think will have a decent year as the No. 5 starter, great upside with him there, the big questions are Bucholtz, Beckett and Lackey. With Beckett and Lackey, neither has shown any reason to believe they are not on the downside of their careers and continuing to fade. And if this is the case, the sox could be looking for two starters possibly before the break but contracts may force them to eat it and that will be a disaster. I am really worried that Bucholtz does not come too close to his numbers last year. he has just not shown that he is really that guy. His stats as a whole basically show that he got pretty lucky last year with his era and is likely to blow up somewhat this year. The last piece to this staff is Lester must be the guy who stops any losing streaks and gives a quality start regularly, yes a real ace, not a part time ace. With all that said, If the three in question perform decently the Sox will do well, if they do not, the offense will not be enough to carry them through the playoffs or possibly even get there. My gut tells me Beckett and Lackey get throttled somewhat regularly and Bucholtz slides at least some. As a sox fan, i hope i'm wrong.

theyre putting gonzo in the 5 hole to protect his shoulder, he doesnt dive at grounders unless he needs to. they didnt give him an extension. i know its all rumors and jumbo but he might be lying that hes 95% healed.
i think hes 85% healed, he shouldnt try to stretch singles (he was thrown out at 2nd)
he did dive in his last spring training game, but theyre playing it safe as they should.
i like gonzo in the 5 hole anyhow. kevin YOOOOOOU in the four slot. more #s and opportunity for YOUK!!!!
we will know sooner or later how much gonzo is healed. he has looked impressive but still no dingers.
i wouldn't be worried unless they go 1-10. =) i am not a fan of the REDSOX.
clay bucholz looked very bad today.
he did get out of a couple of jams (one a double play)
very very very tough to predict his season stats for 2011. Everyone is saying he cannot repeat 2010.
beckett ( should look good, because his spring tune up was kinda nice) dice K is a "DICE" and you gotta roll it.
papelbon is awful. you can predict what he is going throw when hes in the stretch. even a 10 year old with some knowledge of baseball could guess sitting on the couch. next time try yourself...

ill tell you what i think will be the biggest problem, saltalasucchia behind the plate. varitek was the king of handling a staff and calling a game if nothing else. and the pitchers loved him. its obvious none of them are comfortable out there right now. now maybe thats because of the catching change..maybe not...but i think its huge.
good point
long season ... the bats will heat up starting tonight.
i fucking hope.
