Anyone here think the catcher shouldn't be able to go out and talk to the pitcher mid at bat?

It seems to take the momentum and any possible groove away from the hitter when they meet at the mound like this. I think a pitcher should have to deal with the current AB and get the out before any timeouts should be granted. IMO it should add to the competitiveness of the game by not bailing out the pitcher every time. Is this batter allowed to go to the dugout and talk to the batting coach mid-AB?

For instance that Stanton AB with bases loaded and pitcher trying to work out of the jam and catcher goes to mound on a 1-2 count. Feels awfully artificial that the pitcher can take a break whenever he wants.

Thoughts?

isn't it pitcher to catcher then catcher to pitcher then manager to the mound or then the trainer...then the ump....well you get the scenario....also with a runner on 2nd they do that too.....

I agree. I don't like it because it ruins the momentum and the feel of the game.

The other thing I vehemently disagree with is 'intentional walks'. But how do you police it? You can't.

never in my life have i seen a batter step out of the box to go talk to the opposing pitcher. so the answer is NO.

think they should implement a rule if ur going to have a lil conversation on how to pitch to a certain batter it needs to be done prior to throwing a pitch to the said batter.

Ok great but you didn't address anything I said above. I know the rule book.. Tell me why. Why is it better for the game? Does it interupt the flow of the game? Is it equal on both sides?

I did address what you said… the batter is allowed to step out of the box and talk to his 3B coach at anytime as long as time is granted.

A catcher needs to call for time as well (and for it to be granted) for the game to in a state of "timeout". If it is not granted runners can advance (if they are on base).

Both teams can have their catcher meet with the pitcher, so it is fair in that regard. The umpire will also break it up if it's taking too long or being abused. 

Not sure what you're looking for here. Batters do a number of things to throw off a pitcher who is cruising and working fast.

You don't listen.  And this is one of your weaker topics.
Do you think batters should be allowed to adjust their batting gloves after every pitch (a la Nomar Garciapara) ?  Just dumb

I would have no problem with that rule (post 5)… but, a catcher doesnt just go to the mound to discuss strategy or the at bat. Sometimes they get crossed up and there could be confusion over signs (e.g., when a runner in on second base). That warrants a meeting for a number of reasons. also, that would mean that hitters couldn't step out of the box and have a conversation with the third-base coach once the at bat started.

My responses were aimed at the original post.

There is no momentum in baseball to begin with Lol

The game is filled with all sorts of stalling tactics and bs thats just o e of many.

Anybody hate jonny Gomes tapping the beak if his batting helmet 5-10 times in succession between pitches? Even when he doesn't swing ?

The sad part is every topic is weak for you.

You are comparing a batter adjusting his batting gloves for 10 seconds to a catcher leaving the mound and talking with the pitcher for 2-3 minutes?

It's really is sad that there are people this dumb in the world. But on the bright side it helps make it easier on the smarter people to get great jobs while the others appear on episodes of Maury and wonder who their baby's daddy is.

What he meant was, adjusting betting gloves is simply routine of players and is part of game and it doesn't take too long. Whereby, pitcher/catcher talks are be longer and shall not be part of game.

The only reason it should not be allowed is because the games are already too long, this boston game is already almost 4 hours and they need to do stuff to speed up the game

it probably only has a negligible effect if any on the hitters batting average and is has absolutely no effect on "momentum" since that term has absolutely no meaning in a sporting event

it's a pet peeve of mine...announcers use that word all the time as if it's a real factor in the game...like when it's 28-0 nearing half time and the losing team kicks a field goal and the announcer's say it's a good thing they kicked that coz it gives them "momentum" going into half...it's just a trick they use to keep you tuned in to a boring game

I disagree simply for this reason. Players especially when on second base can steal signs. So sometimes they have meeting to change signs. The only way i maybe would agree is if this rule was for when no one was on base. One rule there should b is a shot clock/pitch clock for pitchers. There is no reason to take almost 30 sec in between pitches. Also i wouldnt mind them making rule about once at bat starts stay in box. There is no need in between every pitch to adjust ur gloves and everything else. I thought i heard the avg length between pitches is 23 sec. Put a clock at 20 and once batter steps in box u can only step out once during at bat. Baseball has to get rid of three n half hr games. There is not enuf action for the game to b that long

yeah, exactly, I'm sure he went to the mound to change signs, ppl steal signs all the time and it's part of the game

that would be really weird to have a pitch clock but seems like it would make the game more exciting

a pitcher cannot "take a break" whenever he wants to, the catcher calls for 'time' the HP ump sanctions 'time out' this is part of the game, and how it's played, it's a rule, not a privelage, like it or not, changing it has absolutely no relevantcy in upgrading the game, you simply don't fix something that isn't broken, based upon a frustrated whim...

Children!, Children!, first off it's not your game to change.  It's their game for you to follow, "IF"  you choose, be thankful you have the choice to choose your entertainment.  Many people don't!
