Hey Uriss,That is intersting figures that you listed. I was not aware that the Phils receive any revenue sharing but I assume your figures indicate otherwise.
That was 2005 Figure,,,,,, I can get 2006 , 0 7, 08 , and 09 but I will just embarrass this jpero guy, hes clueless,,,,,,
What I'm providing are facts! he provided an argument saying its a scam..... Look what the Phillies have done since 2005!!!! They were receiving free money!!! What did they do??? INVESTED IT.....Now they are in the World Series 2 years in a row
argument over

Why are the Phillie arguably the best team in baseball the last 2 years??????????? They took advantage of the revenue sharing and luxuary tax, which even's the playing field.... Now they are a powerhouse

I think though that since the Phils got the new stadium they have been more inclined to pay more.I could be wrong but I think the payroll figure in 2008 nwas 105 mill and this year 113 or something like that.

What will they invest it in... YOu keep sayng if they spend spend spend then it will be fine. Explain who they are spending it on... Is it a smart investment.
The Brewers wanted CC but the Yankees offered $50 million more and then CC was pressured by the players union ot take the largest offer.
So you want the smalelr market teams to overpay for mediocre talent just so you can cream your pants and say well they spend the money they were getting its not my fault it wasnt properly spent.
The Yankees made $380 million, let me repeat that, $380 million in profit on ticket sales this year. They PAY ZERO from YES to the opposing teams and they make well over $200 million a year off that. There is no revenue sharing of media rights as part of the revenue sharing.
THATS A ShAM OF A SYSTEM.
If they gave the revenue sharing to interdivision teams and forced them to spend then it would deter the Yankees from spending that much but it also alienates all the other teams. The Yankees would not spend if their fellow rivals in their own division were using their own money to sign premier FA.
But thats not the issue here. NFL share ALLLLLLLLLL streams of revenue. MLB does not.

So now what will the Phillies do when Utley and Howard and Victorino are free agents????? They will sign them! WHY? Cuse they have great ownership WHO WILL SPEND THE MONEY HE HAS BEEN RECEIVING FOR FREE

Exactly. It doesnt matter if a smaller market team wants one of the premium players. if the Yankees want that player he is theirs for the taking.
And i already stated how the Yankees have distorted the FA market and value of mediocre/average players because of them paying absurd amount to obtain the stars they want.
Its a ripple effect.

Hey jpero,I agree about the FA market but many teams are paying these stiffs huge amts and not really sure why except the old market price thing.Just to ride the bench there are guys getting over 2-3 million a year.A example this year could be Freddy Sanchez,he is a decent player but would you pay him 10 mill a year ?Probably that is the asking price.I wish somehow all the teams would refuse to deal with those rediculous requests but then one ha sto deal with that bullshit players union.

How many players did the Yankees sign in the 2007 Offseason off free agency????? The answer is 0????
Who signed pat Burrell? TAMPA BAY (happened to be a bad investment)
Who signed Raul Ibanez (Phillies) GREAT INVESTMENT
Who signed Derrick Lowe ( Atlants) Good Investment
Who signed Adam Dunn (Washington)
See the trend the teams are trying to get better!!
THERE ARE PLENTY OF PLAYERS OUT THERE THAT WILL IMPROVE YOUR TEAM THAT THE YANKEES HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH
That is my official Last post

I just want the WS to begin already instead of reading everybody's opinions and people fighting and hating with myself included. Whoever wins will have the right to talk and the opposition will just have to take it. In my opinion, realizing that I am a homer, I think the Yanks win in 6. That was my opinion for the Alcs as well. I think there will be a game early in the series that the Phills bullpen will blow a lead or save and the Phills wont be able to overcome the series. Just my opinion. When it is all said and done if we win, I will be ecstatic, if we lose it will take me a while to get over but will certainly not bitch and complain on this site. I think the Phills have a great team and I am not going to bash any of their players because they have a great solid confident team. In the end I think these 2 teams are nearly dead even in the starting pitching and lineup and the Yanks bullpen and obviously closer is better and that is where I think Yanks will prevail.

There is a magnitude of information about how the Yankees have distorted the FA market and could have any player they want. It doesn't matter if other teams want to sign that player.
It is not worth it to sign a Jermain Dye type player becuase he is left over when you can save millions of dolalrs using an in house option who will yield similar results at a fraction of the cost.
There is no reason to keep a young stud who you have no chance of resigning and losing him to the FA market and only receiving a supplemental 1st or 2nd round pick (which could turn out to be something great, something serviceable, or never reaches the ML) instead of trading that player before reaching FA and obtaining 15-20 years of players under team control.
I doubt you understand the service time, arbitration, team control concept of young players. This is a very importatnt aspect of the economics of baseball.
The Yankees can go out and spend and sign what ever they want and if one busts its whatever (Pavano)... Its a drop in the bucket and no set back. OTHER TEAMS DO NOT HAVE THAT ABILITY. One bad contract sets the franchise back 5-10 years (see the Orioles and Albert Belle).
The money the Yankees pay into revenue sharing is a drop in the bucket and nothing to the organization. They make it all back and more ten fold with media and other revenue streams not part of the revenue sharing process in MLB

Okay fair enough. I think it should be a good WS and I am pulling for the Phils and truly believe we can win it in 5 or 6 if we can get to Sabathia. The lineups are pretty even and I am also not sold on Burnett or Pettitte against the Phillies and the main thing to me is tHat I would rather not see too much of Rivera as he is the definite advantage to the Yanks.Hopefully all of both teams fans can be civil to each other, myself included but not confident that will happen on this board.Best of luck to both teams.

Who signed Derrick Lowe ( Atlants) Good Investment calling it a godo investment... this is case and point you have no clue what you speak. He is getting paid $15 mill/yr for the next 3 years and was awful this year. The Braves are lookign to get rid of him to anyone and they will get close to nothing in return since it will be a salary dump.
Who signed Adam Dunn (Washington) Guess you have no idea about Dunn either. He refused to sign with an AL team if they were going to put him at DH. He wanted to play the field and he is quite possibly the worst RF defensively in baseball. He is essentially a DH. It should be clear to you that NO TEAM wanted him and he settled for the Nats because they had to make a big signing to entice fans to come to the ballpark.
See the trend the teams are trying to get better!!

I will admit I am bit with Phills lineup vs Burnett.... I am not all that worried with Pettitte though, he is a big game pitcher in big situations and I expect nothing less than the look he gives to Jorge for every pitch he throws. They should somehow get Pettitte an additional start if needed over Burnett going twice, if Burnett is on he is an elite pitcher if he is off and can pitch like Sidney Ponson ... Although I give him a lot of credit for coming back the way he did after getting shelled in the 1st inning, that is his thing he will have 1 real tough inning, he can either get out of it or make it worse. I certainly dont fear on the road hitting against Hamels and Blanton. Yanks will take 1 of those games.

When you can answer the the discrepancy of the Royals and the Cardinals???? Both teams in Small markets.... St. Louis pays a Luxuary tax and shares revenue...yet KC is the Complete opposite!
St. Louis wants to win AND SPENDS THE MONEY...
KANSAS CITY KEEPS THE FREE MONEY AND PUTS IT IN THEIR POCKET PERIOD!
Answer that question? Ohhh and they are in the same state so you have to divide by 2 right???

Was listining to XM on the way to work and SEth Everett said his info has the Yanks starting Gaugin in either game 4 or5.Not sure if that will happen but that is what he said.I think Hamels is hurt or something as he is also not to be feared either.Okay enjoy the game this evening.
