Just got good news with Beckett...but they're hurting and their bullpen has been terrible. Now the Rays own them and they go back to Fenway for a 4 game set in just a few days. If the Rays have their way...the Sox are in trouble.
Of course Sox fans probably won't say that they're worried...but anyone think they should be?

Never see this coming, Jon Lester, 43 pitches in 1st inning...WOW
I pass on Sox & NYY this week, but go with Boston today, and after what Rays do in this 1st inning, to the only stud pitcher Sox have, fans must be worried...
No pitching, no bullpen, they only can hope that offense gonna wake up...

The Rays also have 7 left against the Yanks...but that's a more even series that the Rays won't cakewalk through.
As for Lester...he threw like 40 against the Yanks in the 1st at Fenway last week but settled down. The only difference is that he didn't allow a run in the 1st that game.

I know they'll make it too...but I have to ask.

as a huge sox fan, i dont think the rays will catch them for the wild card. Unless the redsox get healthy in a hurry, they will be a 1st round exit come the post season though. They have one of the worst rotations in the majors right now. lackey and wakefield are finished. bedard and andrew miller???? no thanks. I had very high expectations for this team at one point this year. injury's. a crusher....

Rays have a good chance catching Boston. You have one team firing on all cylinders and another just going downhill. I take Tampa's pitchers over Boston's pitchers anyday.

very true. Though with beckett and lester in the rotation along with studs like ellsbury, crawford, gonzalez, pedroia anything can happen. They could easily win it all if they start playing well.

As for the remaining schedule...I agree that the Red Sox "should" finish out.
I'm annoyed by the Yankee fans who say "Lets Go Rays!!! Knock the Red Sox out!!!"
What they don't understand is, if they want the Rays in the playoffs, odds are likely that it will be at the Yankees' expense because they'll have to win games against the Yankees to keep up.
I understand the Sox are playing bad...but there is no chance in hell they get manhandled by the lowly Orioles.

Sparky, as a Yank homer, who you like to face in postseason for your team, Red Sox or Rays?
That's tough. The Sox own the Yanks regardless of whose hurt or not. And their offense owns all of the Yanks pitching.
The Rays, on the other hand, have Shields, Price and Hellickson.
But the real question is...would the Red Sox make it to the ALCS. They may own the Yanks...but if they're up against Texas or Detroit on the road...can they win?

It's all about pitching in postrseason, mostly. Redsox prolly exit quickly with the current starting pitchings, but i would lean facing Rays if i were Yanks homer.

The Yanks had a 3-man rotation in 2009 and AJ had a 5.33 ERA. So the Yanks had 2 reliable starters. They averaged 5.3 runs per game in the playoffs that year, scoring under 4 runs just twice.
