There are several solid reasons why I like the Diamondbacks tonight.
The first and most important is how Clay Bucholz has been pitching. In his last 5 games he is 4-1 with a 2.37 ERA and 1.25 WHIP and he has been averaging just over 6 innings per start. Another strong factor is that he has only given up 3 HR's in 30.1 innings, which is an exceptional ratio and tonight he is against a Padres team that suffers from a power shortage.
BUT, the most important reason I like Arizona tonight in the 1st 5 innings is that Bucholz has one of the best records in the league for the 1st 5 innings. The Diamondbacks are 9-1 in the 1st 5 Innings in the last 10 games he has started.
Also, Bucholz is also 2-0 in his career against the Padres and tonight he faces a AA prospect that greatly overachieved in his 1st start. I look for a huge reversal tonight by Nix.
I also think the Diamondbacks will play very focused in this game after losing the 1st game in Texas and Cincy in their last 2 series and they have to win all 3 games in San Diego to have a winning road trip.
Also, the Padres have only won 6 of their last 26 home games and they are more interested right now in looking at some of their future talent like Jacob Nix while the Diamondbacks are playing to hold onto their #1 spot and 1 1/2 game lead in the National League West. They have owned the Padres winning 7 of the last 9 meetings including all 3 of the games at PETCO Park earlier this year.
Combine this with the fact that the Padres are pure cr*p in the 1st game of all of their home series with a 3-13 record while the Diamondbacks are a very solid 14-8 on the season in their 1st road game of each series.
Some other tidbits on how lousy the Padres have been at home are:
They are 3-14 in the last 17 home games vs. a right handed starter.
They are 2-10 in their last 12 home games vs. a team with a winning record.
They are 1-10 in their last 11 home games vs. a team with a winning road record.
This will be a large play and really like laying the 1/2 run and getting back +1.10. You do have the option of laying -1.30 on the Money Line.
BOL tonight!

Nix is the Padres top pitching prospect. Dbacks have never seen him before...Hard to pitch 3 good games against a team in a season fro Buchotlz....Line is pretty low for a reason considering the Padres are the worst team in the NL and just got swept at home. Only late night game...should drive the line up.

Nix is good but not shutout good, yet. At some point he's going to get hit hard and pulled tonight. Question is what will the Padre bats be doing vs Bucholz, I'd wager not much.
Still 1.66... yuck, I don't like the matchup that much. It's a 60/40 game at best in my opinion.
I know it says "prospect" next to my name but I've been watching ball and playing fantasy for ... crud, decades now. I suddenly felt old saying that. My record in the contest is: M/L Picks 60-42, 58.82% +6700 if it helps. Wish I could figure out the O/U as well, lol.
Fully understand the apprehension at -1.66, but I am taking the better and more experience Pitcher that is 9-1 in his last 10 games in the F5 innings and I am getting back +1.10. That has tremendous value to me. Also, everyone in the league has video now on Nix and I think tonight he gets a does of reality in MAJOR League Baseball. BOL!

Hey In2it, nice write up on the Arizona and San Diego game.
Called it it early this morning and I did put 2 dimes on Arizona.
As you wrote in your post, "large play".
Good luck amigo
Let's hope we both know what we are doing......LARGE is LARGE
OK....iIt is almost game time, so with these large wagers I will do my normal routine - turn on Live PD or watch a movie and then Tomorrow morning I will check the total in my account to know if I won or lost and then I will look at the Box Score and read the Game Recap to see what went down.
After many years and emotional roller coaster you get watching baseball I have learned the STRESS FREE approach to Sports Investing. All of the real excitement is in handicapping the games and finding THE BIG PLAYS.
Best of Luck to Everyone!!!

Here's what you're missing. Nix has 27 pitches, still in the top of the first, down 0-3 in score, runners on 1st and 3rd, only 1 out.
Thanks for the update UKJoe!!! Got my coffee and logged into my account and immediately knew the outcome was GREAT!
Apparently, if you watched the 1st inning you pretty much saw all of the action in the entire game.
I knew Nix would come into this game thinking he was special after pitching 6 innings of 4 hit shutout BB against Philly in his first MLB start last week. Now he understands this is the BIG LEAGUES.....did not make it through the 1st Inning. He will be very vulnerable his next start....can't wait.
On to finding more LARGE Plays.......BOL to everyone!!!
